~~~SEWING my way to POFQ ~ American Girl outfits & Custom Park Bags! ~~~
This is the "something new" I've been working on... I always theme my outfits on characters, I've never themed one on an event before.
Really, I wanted to squeeze "Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party" on it... but it was just too small... I couldn't even get MNSSHP... so, it's just a mickey bat. :rotfl2:
But I made a matching trick-or-treat bag - so that was fun. :wizard:
aIMG_2035.jpg
Special thanks to Cajunfan for sending me some of her halloween fabric scraps - it was so much fun to try and create something with remnants. Not to worry - other people have sent me some fun things too - which a plan to use soon. :thumbsup2
D~
Love love love this one.
I need to make DDs halloween skirt and shirt she decided that if we bought a witches hat it would be her costume.
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE!!!!
Each one gets cuter and cuter!
Quick question I have been meaning to ask...where did you get your small dress form? I found a pattern from YCMT to make a small dress form as a pincushion and was thinking about making one the size of an American Girl doll...
Nini
Thanks. :0)
AG used to sell dress forms, once upon a time, they discontinued them about 5 years ago, for a mere $8 each. They were gone in minutes, and have since gone up on Ebay for a premium (sometimes upwards of $60)... I was lucky, I knew my BFF had purchased one for the $8 price tag, and had it stashed in her closet... I begged her to give it to me for Christmas last year. :lovestruc
I know there is another company that sells them now... the name escapes me - I'll ask around and let you know. I want to say they are about $20?
That turned out great! What a cute idea! Are you going to do some other holiday themed outfits too?:lovestruc
I've been thinking about it.
Glad that things seem to have turned out ok with the bullying incident at school. Middle schoolers are such a difficult age. They are like little kids in some ways and then too grown up for themselves in other ways. It doesn't always come out as a nice mix.:confused3:confused3:confused3 I guess that they mostly grow up to be pretty good people though.:rotfl:
Mostly... That's what we hope, anyways. :confused3
Love love love this one.
I need to make DDs halloween skirt and shirt she decided that if we bought a witches hat it would be her costume.
Thanks! :) That would be super cute!
I redrafted another pattern this morning, so I need to sew up a few prototypes with it, and see if it's what I want... Then I had an idea in the shower this morning... LOL :confused3
Eating breakfast, headed to the PO, then off to the gory amusment park for the day - I hope we are done early... :rolleyes1
Cute! Now you can do a holiday series -- Christmas, Valentine's, 4th of July.....
Ugh! This just reminded though that I haven't made dd anything for Halloween yet, never mind costumes! I have to clean today though. The house is getting icky looking and it makes me not like living here. ANd then there's yard work. It's in the 70's now so it's the perfect time of year to do it, but the yard has been soooooooo neglected that I dread it (and dh never helps anymore at all).
Have fun at the amusement park!
I'm glad too that things worked out well for A; however, I have to say that these days I see a lot of parents who are bullies too. So sad.
Ack... Time to get some halloween outfits and costumes made for dd... the house will wait... I KWYM though - my house is in a shambles right now - I haven't had much time for anything.
WOW! I knew you could make something out of literally what I would have thrown away (because goodness knows, I was not making another AG skirt/outfit!:laughing:)
Thanks so much - it was really fun to pull out everything and see how I could fit it together - it was sort of like a puzzle. :lovestruc
Love the Halloween Outfit!!
The matching bag is too cute!
Thank you! :)
YAY!!! Glad to have you back before your trip! :cool1: Off to check out your PTR now. :surfweb:
Yesterday was just crazy for me! I won't go into all the details - but we only ended up staying at the amusment park for about 2 hours. We get there, the girls know what they want to ride - they ride - I walk - and we go home. Not sure if we are going to do season passes again next year - we did get our $$ worth out of them - but we have had them for 2 years in a row now, and I am not sure if the girls want a 3rd. The problem is, is that season passes are $59 right now (but I have a hunch they will go down to $49, like they did last year)... Gate prices are $41.99 and parking is $12 (you get free parking with season passes), so you really have it paid for if you go twice. :confused3
I hope to get some time in my sewing room today... I feel like I haven't spent much time in there the last few days.
D~
Can't wait to see the other holiday things that you whip up!
It sounds like if the season passes go to $49 it would totally be worth it. It is about the same cost for a single day. I guess you'd have to decide how much you'd use them. So many rides make me and younger DD motion sick at the local theme parks. I love Disney because not all their rides involve whirling you around as fast as possible.
My computer arrived at the house tonight!!! Back from it's "spa vacation" all clean and sparkly and ready to go! I can multi-quote again! :cool1:
Now, let's just hope this hard drive lasts longer than the last one!
LOVED the halloween outfit! so cute! I am ready to iron fabric and start cutting for my trip . . . I also need to make Finn's Halloween costume . . . and mine . . .
I haven't had much sewing time these last few days. DH decided to take down our old garage on Sunday - I was too busy having anxiety attacks and running into the house with my ears plugged every time he pulled a wall out. :rolleyes1
I plan to sew today though. :thumbsup2
That's exactly why I love Disney too... it's not all about the rides - there's something for everyone and everyone can enjoy themselves. It's never more apparent to me than when I am at another amusement park, and all I do is chase the girls from one ride to the next, because there's really nothing else that interests me. :confused3
Let's just say that I am really excited to get to Disney. :lovestruc
Yay, glad you have your computer back! :banana: It better last longer this time!
I can't wait to see all the stuff you are making for your trip! :surfweb: I wish I could take a break from the AG outfits and make something fun for us for our trip... but I must press on. popcorn::
I plan to start a new series today... I am still not sure about it. I know which patterns I am using - so that's a start. And I know which characters I am doing, so that's even better. I think I need to order some fabric though, if I want to complete the series - I have enough to get started with the first couple of characters though. :wizard:
I thought I would show you all a few pictures of our garage coming down... it has nothing to do with sewing - except that it kept me from my machine. :rotfl2: It really was the most ugly garage ever! We had planned to take it down years ago, but then we had the tornado (which did NOTHING to that garage :confused3 ) but required us to put new siding on the house - which led to us footing the bill for all new windows (since you can't put new siding on with out new windows)... Which led to a bunch of stupid building mistakes that we found hidden under the old siding (but that's another story)... OK, so the point to this story is really nothing - other than we are a few years late taking the garage down, but we are really excited to get the new garage up - but that won't happen until spring. pirate:
Here's the best before picture I have. Basically, what happened is, maybe a decade or two ago, one of our neighbor's branches fell on the garage. Who ever owned the house at the time didn't make any repairs to the roof, so water poured in and down into the foundation every time it rained... freezing in the winter, contracting and expanding = not good for foundations.
IMG_20411.jpg
Eventually, the whole roof began to rot out... Along with the rest of the garage.
IMG_20433.jpg
Over the last year, the foundation really began to move and crack. We knew the garage was coming down this year - and we are a little late doing it, because of Josh's back. Josh noticed, on Sunday morning, the the foundation moved considerably over the last week, it was starting to bow horribly and dangerously close to our neighbor's garage. So, Josh broke both windows on Sunday morning, but a 4x4 post through the one, hooked to a chain - to brace that wall and keep it from falling on the neighbor's garage. Once he did that - you could really see how much the wall bowed out, and it made me really nervous.
IMG_20444.jpg
So, Josh began drilling holes, and pulling the walls out with his truck, one by one to get the garage to fall peacefully.
IMG_20492.jpg
It wasn't going so well. We thought the garage was very unstable, but it was a lot stronger than we thought. He was sure that once he pulled out the first little wall, that the garage would come down. He ended up having to pull out 3 walls, and even then, it put up a huge fight. popcorn::
IMG_20503.jpg
Finally it was down... Now for the icky part - clean up. YUCK! I hate the cleaning up part. I was on clean up duty with the house, and it was a horrible job. I am really not looking forward to clean up duty with the garage.
IMG_20547.jpg
The good thing about all of this, is once the new garage is built - there won't be anything left for us to do - except the kitchen and landscaping.
I hope you weren't all too bored with my mini album. :lovestruc
So, I am going to hang out on The Dis for a while... work out, then go sew. If things go well, I might have something posted today. popcorn::
I know... I debated on posting it, because I didn't want you all to think we are "those neghbors" because our garage is so ugly... :rotfl2: I guarantee you, it;s not the ugliest garage in town. :thumbsup2
I guess that garage was pretty well built that it took so much effort to tear it down. Did your dh have fun doing the demolition? My brother LOVES to do stuff like that!
Can't wait to see your new series.
Sure I will post pictures. THe girls Birthday isn't until the 27th though LOL
I am not sure that's something DH enjoys doing. LOL This one was particularily stressful, because back when it was built - there weren't any set backs - so it was incredibly close to our neighbor's garage... we were just so worried that it would fall over on their garage. Thankfully it didn't. We've been out there every night until dark, cleaning up the debris. We aren't sure what size dumpster to get, because the wood will be burned - which is most of it... so right now, we are seperating out the wood, and then we'll order a dumpster when we know what size to get.
Can't wait to see! :)
I started my new series yesterday... I am not happy with it at all. I sure hope that the shirt makes up for it. It has potential to be very cute, but I just don't like the way it lays. :confused3 I am kind of nervous about the rest of the series, if I dislike the first outfit this much. :sick:
I am guessing you are doing an Insa (based on a little hint I got from Chiara's PTR).
I think Lisa may have a good guess with Pooh and Friends, but I think you should also do a series with the classic animal movies -- Aritocats, Dalmatians, Nemo, Lion King, Lady and the Tramp....
Do you have a wood burning stove in your house? We had one in our old house and it really warmed up the house. It was great to have when the power was out during a storm! Our new house has a gas fireplace which is also great when the power goes out. Your garage sounds like a huge amount of work. I am glad that it didn't fall on the neighbors garage. When you build the new garage will you put it in the same place or will you be required to move it to a different spot because of newer laws?
Sorry that you aren't happy with your new series. It is probably cuter than you think. I always feel so critical of anything that I've sewn because I know all the tiny flaws that nobody else sees. If you are truly unhappy with it, I am sure you will figure out some way to change it up so that you are happier with the results.
OK - I'll give... Yes it's an Insa, and I've come to the conclusion, that as much as I want it to work, the Insa is just not meant to be done in dolly size. On the girls size skirt, there is a lot of fabric so it lays really nice, on the doll skirt, there isn't a lot of fabric, so I don't think it lays the way it's supposed to. Does that make sense? I might try to stick a tu-tu under it, and see if that makes a difference.
We do not have a wood burning stove, or a fireplace... however this wood is so old (possibly lead paint), I don't think I"d want to burn it in the house, even if I could. We have a fire pit out in our back yard... I am sure Josh will be burning all winter.
The new garage will be built per the current set backs (10 feet from the property line) with permission from our neighbor to go an additional 5 feet closer to the property line. So, in the end, it will be 5 feet from the line. Currently, the garage is about 10" from the line. Had the foundation been decent (saveable), we would have just "remodeled" the garage, but we really can't save any of it.
The new garage will be a 2 car +, there will be a wood shop in the back for Josh, the back will also walk out and we will have cold storage under his shop, we plan to put in attic rafters, so at some point, if we choose to, we can finish off the attic as a guest house or a rec room of some sort.
Since we are a 3 vehicle family, we will also pour an extra pad next to the driveway for our 3rd vehicle.
I am very excited to get the garage built, since I am sick and tired of cleaning all the snow off my cars in the winter, and even more excited to have somewhere to park my new car, one of the main reasons I didn't want a new car is because I really felt we needed a garage to put it in. Sometimes, you just have to do things one at a time and take it as it comes. :lovestruc
I am really hoping this is the case... I've really disliked quite a few of my outfits (as I was complaining to Josh last night, he said that I dislike everything I make - LOL)... So, maybe someone will like it. :confused3
I am excited though, I ordered some halloween fabric and some Christmas fabric last night. I don't plan to make any more halloween outfits this year, but I do plan to make a couple of Christmas outfits, and I am really happy with the prints I chose.
I also ordered some pirate fabric, I am hoping to talk the girls into pirate skirts for our trip. :rolleyes1
Oh, and I am dying to make Allison's messenger bag... I finally came up with a brilliant idea for hers - and I just want to stop everything and make this bag for her! :banana: I just know she will flip over it! :lovestruc
I've been trying to redo my siggy all morning, it's really hard to squish everything on there that I want to display... I am kind of bummed - I might have to start eliminating. :surfweb:
Ok, time to work out and weigh in... Then I will finish this outfit this morning and get it posted, so you can all agree with me that it's ugly. :rotfl2:
