~~~SEWING my way to POFQ ~ American Girl outfits & Custom Park Bags! ~~~
D that's great about the wt loss! how much did Andrea lose? I tried to catch up with this thread but I must have missed that part. :hippie:
I lost 3.5 pounds in 5 days of doing slimfast for breakfast and lunch, fruit as snacks and a normal dinner. I'm finally getting over being sick so I am going to start walking. I used to do a combo of running/walking 4.5 miles 3 days a week and then work out dvds another 3 days a week. It really made a difference and I am getting really flabby since I stopped. So Monday after I drop the kids off at school and I am headed to the park right near there. I only need to lose 10 pounds total -- I'm not that overweight -- just flabby and out of shape.
Well, you are truly an inspiration, and just in time. I need to make a Laura Ingalls Costume for my 9 yo DD. I really hate patterns and I have no idea what my new Brother sewing machine can even do!!! I think it is high time I read the manual and just took the plunge. Your designs are beautiful! Did you say HAND APPLIQUE? I have great stitches on my new machine and... haven't used them yet. I'm even losing patience with my used Janome embroidery machine. I retired my mom's old Kenmore, it just was one mistake after another. Come to think of it, maybe it's not the machines.;)
Well, after volleyball I will work on her Halloween costume and keep you in mind. Then, later tonight I will finish reading your stuff.
Thanks, you made a difference today!:love:
For patterns try YouCanMakeThis.com They are more expensive than commercial patterns, but so much easier and it's like you get a mini sewing lesson. Carla C has some good ones.
{{{HUGS}}} D. You are doing a fabulous job with getting healthy.
I did Laura Ingalls patterns for my DD's a few years ago. They turned out great and the girls got so much attention. They also used them for a long, long time for dress up. They loved them so much that they have saved them and won't get rid of them.
You guessed it right! This is the pattern I plan to use - I am just not sure which size yet... I am thinking the large one for me (as long as it's deep enough to hold my water bottle upright - I haven't measured yet) and the small ones for the girls - since they won't be carrying much, except for sweatshirts if they decide to take them off. And, of course, I am probably going to modify it a bit... I'd like a zipper pocket on it somewhere, and a strap to attach my wallet to... and other little obscure things. :thumbsup2
OK - nows the time for D~'s pity party.... Everyone's invited - pajamas are the preferred attire.
So, DH has a "semi-formal" dinner tonight to recognize his retirement from the MNANG... So, D~ goes up to her closet this morning, trying to find something to wear... I got through everything on hangers (no luck), Everything in my dresser (no luck), Everything in my giant rubbermaid container (no luck)... I have absolutely nothing to wear, except a denim skirt. ACK!!!! Oh, and I offered to wear my Donald skirt - DH vetoed that immediately. :confused3 So, he sent me to Kohl's... not that they really have anything semi formal - but to me - anything with out legs is semi formal - so it would have to do. First of all... standing nekkid (almost) in front of those mirrors made me want to puke - it was horrible. Second of all - looking at all these cute clothes that wouldn't go on me, no matter how hard I tried - just made me want to cry. YOu'd never know I've been working so hard these last few weeks.
The outfit I ended up with is "OK"... I'd maybe wear it again, if I couldn't get into any of the other cute stuff I have upstairs. However, I did end up with a cute pair of boots and dress shoes... which, no matter which ones I wear, I probably won't be able to walk for the next 3 days. I told Allison that I will wear my flipflops in the car to the event, I will put on my shoes when we get there, walk in, plant my buttox in a chair, sit there all evening, walk to the car, immediately put my flip flops back on. And pray I can walk tomorrow.
Seriously, why do they have to make these things "semi formal" why can't they just be "dressy casual"???? :sick:
D~ <---- who has yet to get into her sewing room today either. :sick:
You've been doing so well with all your walking the last couple of weeks. I am sure you will look great! Even walking to and from your chair, where you will sit all evening so your feet won't be killing you tomorrow. I hate dress shoes more than anything! My DH always comments on my "practical" shoes. I feel like I'm 95 years old when I wear them but my feet don't hurt the next day! Enjoy DH's event tonight!
Can you add a pocket or a strap for the water bottle? I love having a special spot for them so that I know that they won't fall over and leak or spill!
I have my pjs and flip flop slippers on so the party attire is perfect for me! I prefer that it be jammies rather than semi formal.
Sorry for your outfit dilemma. I am the same way -- I have a couple of cute things but most of my cute items are summery. I have cute casual winter items. I have nothing "nice" for winter and nothing that great for in between weather. And most of my cute summery stuff I got last year when my arms were very tone -- I put one of the dresses on very recently and took it right off b/c my arms are flab.
I'm glad you found something, and if nothing else the shoes will hopefully make you feel good even if your feet don't feel so good!
Don't understand at all why your dh balked at the Donald skirt :confused3
I didn't sew one lick today either. Spent most of the day with the familly and burnt my finger on the glue gun helping my dd with her school project. Tomorrow we get to make clay figures for it so I'm sure kneading the clay will do my burnt finger wonders :sad2:
I spent the entire day sitting on my couch under a blanket because I have the crud. Finally took my temperature and it was over 101. Sad thing was I could of sewn today because DH was around but I couldn't move my head :(
That is awesome about your weight loss. I can relate with being flabby all over - I hate it. Grrr.... I've added weights to my work out - so hopefully this will help a bit.
Thanks for mentioning YCMT... I sometimes forget the obvious... LOL
{{{HUGS}}} D. You are doing a fabulous job with getting healthy.
Thanks Chiara... Yesterday really did nothing to help my motivation though. Half of this is such a mental game... Just keep swimming, just keep swimming....
That is so awesome! My girls loved to play dress up too - they even included poor Rufus more times than not. LOL
Thanks and LOL... I am very surprised I can walk this morning. Last night was crazy... and my girls insisted that I wear the boots I bought because I "looked awesome"???? It was a serious embarasment when every time I walked, my girls would laugh at me... That's OK - I will get them back when I wear my Donald outfit in WDW. :thumbsup2
Yes, that's kind of what I was thinking. I haven't actually cut out the pattern yet, once I get it laid out - then I will see what will fit in there - but I definately want to do something so the water bottle doesn't tip over. My only other issue is that we will all be getting the refillable resort drink mugs... I am sure that by the time we get to the parks, they will be empty. I am hoping just to rinse them out at a water fountain, and let them hang out in our bags for the rest of the day. Does anyone ever have to carry their refillable mugs into the parks? If so, what do you do with them?
I have my pjs and flip flop slippers on so the party attire is perfect for me! I prefer that it be jammies rather than semi formal.
Perfect! :wizard:
Bummer about all your summer outfits - I am hoping to tone up my arms too. They really need to get skinnier though. LOL
Yup, I felt wonderful - LOL. It was quite the comical scene... especailly wearing my flipflops with my nylons - ROFL.
Don't understand at all why your dh balked at the Donald skirt :confused3
I don't either. :confused3 Personally, I think he was jealous and he really wants one for himself. :thumbsup2
I am so sorry about your burnt finger Andrea... I hope it heals soon. I have to spend my entire day in the sewing room. I am very happy that all the fabric I ordered for the rest of the Fairies came yesterday - I was procrastinating a little bit, because I didn't want to start anything else until I finished the Fairies. So, I can wash all of that today, and continue on. :thumbsup2
Oh no, Chiara. I sure hope you are feeling better now. :hug:
Well, our night was interesting, to say the least. We were running late because we were waiting for dd to get done babysitting... we had to stop at Walmart (gasp!) on the way to get me some more gel padding for my boots. :rolleyes1 So, by the time we got there, it was about 10 minutes later, so not too bad. All the lights were off, and we were the only ones that showed up. :confused3 We finally found the mgr of the building, she wasn't sure what was going on. So, Josh called a former co-worker, who informed him that the event was cancelled. Nice. I am pretty sure that we were the only ones who weren't contacted, since we were the only ones there. A few minutes later (while we were waiting for Josh's grandmother - who is in her 80s - drive all the way across the Metro to arrive) the mgr came back to us with her contact #... low and behold - the person who cancelled the event is none other than the person who took over Josh's former job (who, btw, wasn't qualified, and got it because she "knew the right people" - and his whole former unit is one hot mess now - totally another story). So, we continued to wait for Josh's grandmother to arrive, and about 45 minutes later, we finally got ahold of her at home - she had been there and gone already. We weren't so upset about our inconvenience, we were more upset about her's. Josh plans on sending his old Commander and nasty gram on Monday - which I think is nice of him - we actually drove past the armory last night, where they were drilling - I think he should have gone in and gave them a piece of his mind... but I am proud of him that he chose to act like an adult instead. :wizard: So, we drove all the way across the metro again - and met his Grandmother for dinner a little closer to her house. :lovestruc It turned out to be a wonderful night, and we enjoyed dressing up and going out to dinner with Grandma.
Sorry for the book - but you know me - I can't do anything with out a long story. LOL
I am gonig to work on a few graphics for our trip this morning, so I don't wake the family with my sewing machine noise... then I am spending my entire day in the sewing room. :thumbsup2
Sorry about the whole clothes issue....feel the same way, when you need to find something its never there!
OMG, are you kidding me, how could they of not told you it was cancelled, how rude!!!
happy you made the best of the situation and had a wonderful dinner with grandma!
hope you have a great day sewing :goodvibes
OMG D~ how rude.
I am feeling way better than yesterday no fever and only a sore throat.
I am going to head out with the kiddos to AC Moore for a little bit so DH can get some rest with as little noise as possible.
Since we have a tiny 6 lb pomeranian, my girls don't get to dress her up much. She's so tiny we'd have a hard time finding her inside up a dress up dress!
My DH is usually the only one of us who gets a refillable mug. He generally fills it up on the way out of the resort. Then during the day he rinses it and sticks it into his backpack. Then we re-fill it on our way up to our room when we get back to the resort.
How awful for them to cancel your husbands event and not even bother to contact you. It was nice that you were able to take a crummy situation and turn it into a nice evening with his grandmother.
I can't wait to see what you end up making today!
OMG D~ how rude.
Oh, so pretty.
How strange that your party got cancelled but it sounds like you had a great night with grandma.
Oh, I think you jinxed me with your broken iron. I've been doing so much sewing these last few days that I think my iron has decided to go on strike. It still lights up but it doesn't really want to get hot.
I am livid FOR you that they cancelled the event and didn't bother to inform you! OMG!!!
Love Rosetta!
Loving the fairies!!! They look great, as always! That stinks about them canceling but glad you had a nice time with Grandma. It probably was a Nicer evening than the event would have been.
I agree with you all. But to be honest, like Carol said, I think we had a better time the way it turned out. The only part that really upsets me, is that Grandma had to drive about 50 miles round trip through some pretty heavy barricaded/one lane bridge traffic. Oh, and I had to go out and buy a complete outfit that I am probably never going to wear again - when I would have had something perfectly suitable for dinner out right in my closet. On the plus side - I love the boots I ended up with - even if I really can't wear them. LOL
This is what I was thinking I'd do. :thumbsup2 I am glad it works. :lovestruc
so pretty!!!!
We are oooohing and aaaaahing here in MD!
Love it :lovestruc:lovestruc:lovestruc Of course I love all of your creations!!! I wish I was able to create like you :worship::worship::worship:
Love love love it
Oh, so pretty.
Love Rosetta!
Loving the fairies!!!
Thank you so much everyone. I've really been enjoying making the Fairies. I hope you all like the last 2 I plan on doing. :lovestruc
Soooo sorry! :rolleyes1 I hope it's just going through a "phase" and you don't need a new iron.
I have to work all day today. It's my only day I have to work all week... I have mixed feelings about that. First, it gives me a lot of time to sew. But OTOH - we are going to miss the extra cash it brings in. Thankfully, next week, my hours seem to go back to normal. I plan to cut out my next Fairy this evening, and hopfully get her together tomorrow. Victoria made all of my hair accessories this weekend (I squeeled with delight, because they turned out so cute!)... And Allison did the photoshoot for Tink and Irridessa - so those are ready. I finally feel like I am on top of things.
I plan to work out a little this morning before work, then I have 2 hours after work in between when I get off of work and have to pick up Allison. So, I think I am going to go for a walk. I am hoping that after all day on my feet, that they won't be too sore to go for a jaunt. I really dislike getting old - and I am really not that old.
I hope everyone has a great day! :lovestruc
D~
Just beautiful!
I can't believe your event was canceled and you didn't get notification!!! I would have been most peeved about the time I spent shopping for the new outfit!
I didn't walk this morning -- not only is it stinkin' cold, it's raining! I think there was only a 10% chance of rain too! I am hoping the sun peeks out this afternoon so I can go. I feel like walking -- I don't feel like doing a workout dvd.
I know, I wasn't happy about it. I'm not as peeved about the time I spent shopping as I am about the $$ I spent - none if it can be returned because I'd worn it. Oh well.
So bummed for you about the rain... I hope you were able to get out there and go walking. :confused3 I worked out to my Walk Away the Pounds DVD this morning, and then I went for an hour walk after work - my feet are killing me, but it felt so good.
