"Seven Seven 07" 20070707-11 Night Mediterranean Cruise

Hi ... I just got a note from my TA that DCL has cancelled the Gothic City Walk tour due to "Tour Operator Issues" :sad2: . I hope they open up more Chocolate Museums! Maybe I can do a quick tour on my own after checking in, or maybe I can just enjoy the magic!!!!

ETA - Just got the phone with DCL and the Chocolate Museum and Aquarium and Park Guell tours in Barcelona have also been cancelled.

That really stinks. I'm wondering if, once they start tours, they will drop any other tours or tour operators.

I saw from another post on the main DCL board:

Disney Cruise Line Adds Pizzazz with New Shows, Parties,
Excursions and Activities for First Mediterranean Sailings

CELEBRATION, Fla. -- When the Disney Magic crosses the "pond" for its first-ever Mediterranean sailings, deck parties will pop, new shows will "wow," on-board activities, including food and beverage, will feature European flair, and port excursions will be studded with special Disney touches.

New deck parties will create a carnival-like atmosphere while lavishly produced Broadway-style shows bring original stories and special effects to the ship's opulent Walt Disney Theatre. Activities for children 3-17 will range from crêpe-making en route to Marseilles to mosaic-designing on the way to Barcelona. Excursions at all the ports will feature special extras exclusive to the Disney cruise experience, such as scavenger and treasure hunts for children.

"It was important to add new surprises for our guests during our first-ever European adventure," says Jim Urry, director of entertainment for Disney Cruise Line. "We looked for creative ways to showcase the international flavor of our destinations through onboard and excursion activities allowing the entire family to become immersed in the Mediterranean experience."

Entertainment

Disney Cruise Line guests will enjoy three new theater productions and several festive deck parties debuting just for guests who embark on the summer's 10- and 11-night cruises to ports in Spain, Italy and France. Shows in the Walt Disney Theatre include:

"Disney Dreams . . . An Enchanted Classic" (55 minutes) -- This enhancement of one of the ship's most popular stage shows tells the story of a young girl who learns about the power of dreams. Technical advancements, laser and pyrotechnic effects, plus the first-ever appearance of Timon and Pumbaa on a Disney cruise ship, add fresh fun to the performance.

"When Mickey Dreams" (50 minutes) -- Mickey Mouse's dreams come to life in this musical spectacle guided by a cast of Cirque-like "dream seekers." The show's unique, artistic nature will thrill guests, while a nightmare visit by the notorious villain Maleficent serves up a few chills.

"Disney's The Art of the Story" (50 minutes) -- This celebration of storytelling's magic features more than 20 performers, Disney characters from Mulan to Tarzan and a variety of production numbers from classic Disney films including "Beauty and the Beast" and "The Lion King."

"On the Nose" (50 minutes) -- Everyone in the audience can win prizes grand and small during this original game show based on Disney trivia. Dubbed "On the Nose" because every question -- from Disney film trivia to theme-park factoids -- has a number-type answer, the show gives points to audience teams that get the answer "on the nose."

Meanwhile, up on deck, guests will enjoy several new high-energy deck parties:

Sail-Away Party -- New music, performers and Disney characters add up to a festive new deck party infused with the excitement of each Mediterranean sailing and other exciting journeys to exotic ports of call.

Mouse2O -- Hula hoops, bubbles and beach-party dances kick off this afternoon deck party for guests of all ages. Refreshments are served, and guests have a cameo on the big outdoor screen, where Mickey Mouse and other Disney characters keep the party rolling with regular appearances and songs.

Party Paradiso -- Disney Cruise Line celebrates its summer in the Mediterranean with a unique deck party held one night each cruise. With the help of special effects designed to light up the night, Disney characters and performers help keep the spirit of fun and adventure alive as guests prepare to explore new horizons.

In addition, guests will find other activities with a Mediterranean flair. For instance, throughout the voyage, guests will be able to catch European-themed films in several venues throughout the ship. Families might enjoy watching "The Chronicles of Narnia" or "Herbie Goes to Monte Carlo" on the jumbo screen while lounging by the Goofy pool. Guests might enjoy some time out of the sun watching "Casino Royale" or "Moulin Rouge" in the plush Buena Vista Theatre or even "Casablanca" or "Under the Tuscan Sun" on their stateroom television.

Youth Activities

Disney Cruise Line has taken extra care to make sure that the Mediterranean cruises are fun for the entire family. Up to 70 new activities for kids 3-17 have been planned for the Mediterranean, including:

Crêpe-making on the way to Marseilles, France
Puppet-crafting en route to Palermo, Sicily
Pizza-baking before reaching Naples, Italy
Mosaic tile-making while sailing toward Barcelona, Spain

Youth counselors will weave the cultures of the ship's destinations into many of the children's activities. On the sports deck, games will include soccer, pentanque -- a European ball game created in the early 1900s -- and gladiator training for older children.

Food and Beverage

Inspired by the spices and flavors of the region, the chefs aboard Disney Cruise Line have prepared a great line of regional specialties, offering guests a chance to discover local tastes of the Mediterranean. Each night, the executive chef will hand-pick a selection of dishes influenced by the regions visited during the voyage, such as cannelloni in Italy or bouillabaisse in France. The chefs in Palo, Disney's Italian-influenced, adults-only restaurant, are inspired by the restaurant's return to its roots, and will prepare regional specialties each evening.

Adult guests will also be able to enjoy the tastes of the Mediterranean with an enhanced wine list featuring labels from some local vineyards. Disney sommeliers have tastefully chosen regional wines to accompany the unique menu offerings. A new Wine and Dine menu will have a special focus on "Old World" wines while still offering a great variety of wines from the rest of the world. In addition, wines from Spain, Italy and France will be used to enhance the popular wine seminars on the ship.

Shore Excursions

Disney Cruise Line offers shore excursions designed with the entire family in mind -- and the Mediterranean cruises will be no different.

The Lucca Treasure Hunt in the ancient city of Lucca near the port of La Spezia, Italy, offers riddles and clues to treasure found at various stations located near the main sights and monuments of Lucca.

During a visit to the port of Civitavecchia, the Narnia tour delivers guests to the medieval Italian village Narni, where author C.S. Lewis was inspired to pen his timeless masterpiece, The Chronicles of Narnia.

In Palermo, children of all ages will love the Palermo for Kids tour which includes a city tour complete with stops at the Ceramic's Laboratory, where kids can paint clay and create their own souvenir, and the Little Theatre, where everyone will enjoy a 30-minute marionette show.

For more sophisticated tastes, Disney Cruise Line offers a tour of Rome and Vatican that includes an exclusive private tour of the Sistine Chapel and Vatican Museums. For thrill seekers, the Ferrari Adventure at Villa Peyrano provides guests 21 years of age and older an opportunity to sit behind the wheel and drive the famed Italian sports car.

Guests interested in booking a Mediterranean cruise to Europe with Disney Cruise Line should call 888/DCL-2500, visit disneycruise.com or contact their travel agent

I I'm still looking for a shoulder bag or backpack to tour with. I have a backpack that I use all the time but it might be too bulky. I did find this bag. What are the other women using for a bag on tours?

where did you find this bag Tina? I am looking for something like this. It must zip. I have a nice dalmatian bag but really don't want to take that since we are going to Greece before the cruise. I just want to blend in and not look too much like a silly tourist!:lmao: I thnk I would get lots of weird looks with the dog bag.

I found it at Macy's. It is Swiss Army brand. I think it was $80 or $90. It also came in dark blue. I'd wait for the 15 or 20 percent off coupon though.

At one Macy's I went to it was kinda of hidden under the suitcases. Oh, you'll find it in the luggage section.

So does this mean they aren't having a pirate party? Does anyone know? It would definitely make sense to me if they weren't. I think it will be a fun cruise.

The DCL agent I spoke with about 2 months ago said they were doing a pirate party on the night we leave Marseille. I think the other article last week said something about the pirate party, but I can't remember for sure. Maybe they are just adding more activities on non main-show nights. I can't wait to see the first set of navigators from the 11 day next month.

We have been buying spray on sunscreen, waterproof cameras, video camera tapes, little packets of crystal light/country time lemonade/orange/fruit punch for water bottles, hand wipes, purrell, tide sink packets and other little things to add to our cruise pile.

Where did you get the Tide Sink packets? They sound like an excellent idea! Thanks too for the tip about the crystal light. Didn't think of that one!

Hi MJ,

I found the Tide sink packets at our local Walmart. They come in a tea bag size and have 3 small packets per pack. They only started carrying them this year in their travel size isle, but I found some at Target last year. They worked well for quick bathing suit washes and soaking Mickey bars out of khakis! I haven't even tried the crystal light packets yet, but dh and ds9 never drink plain water and I thought that they'd be more apt to drink the flavored water and stay hydrated (and not spend $6 a drink 5 times a day on excursions!)

What are you all sleeping?? :confused3 - or just lurking! :rolleyes1

Time is sure flying by - and the cruise will be here before we know it!

I can't believe it is so close, yet we have sooo many things going on before it gets here! DS Nick (18) is graduating High School paw:on June 20th, but before that there is a visit to his new college in NH (8 hr round trip), awards ceremony (same night as the last American Idol !), he has 3 senior class trips, prom, senior weekend at the shore, project graduation - so much! Then he will spend a week at the college, from June 23 - 29th at a Conf. "The Presidency & the Press" where they have invited all of the Presidential Candidates to attend! We pick him up on the 29th, and we leave for BCN on July 4th!! Whew!! I can not wait for the first day at sea!!!:cool1:

So - as Denise asked in a previousl post - we are celebrating Nick's Graduation:banana: , as well as our upcoming 25th Anniversary on this trip! :bride: pirate:

Also - found a great site for travel/secure bags you might want to look at - I think I will be ordering something this weekend - http://www.pacsafe.com/www/index.php?_room=3 I am thinking about the metrosafe 100 for me and a secure neck pouch for DH. My only real concern is the 1st 2 nights in Barcelona - we are renting an apartment, and will not have a safe for our passports. I really don't want to carry them around, so I think the neck pouch will be a good idea for those.

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY TO ALL!:yay:

Take care,
Sher

Hi Sher ... I was also wondering where everyone was... We are getting ready for the trip. I cut myself off from buying anymore clothes, well maybe not if a good sale comes up! :lmao:

Our planning is going smoothly ... we leave for London in 48 days!!! I went and did something foolish. I purchased tickets to go see We will Rock you in Toronto for the day before we leave. I was hoping it would get me in a British mood with the music of Queen. I hope to have all my packing done before then, but still have a day for last minute things.

I'm thinking of exchanging my money soon. The exchange for Canadian is so good lately, that I don't want to wait too long. I'm considering Traveller cheques in Euro's. I spoke to DCL and they will cash Euro TC on board. What is everyone else doing?

Congrats to Nick on his graduation, and congrats to you and your husband on 25 years! :cheer2:

Take care,

MJ

We got the PacSafe MetroSafe 200 with eXomesh Anti-Theft Guard and Pacsafe StashSafe 100 as gifts this past Christmas from my father (he asked what we wanted). We used both when we went to NY city a couple times since then and really like both - as a matter of fact my DW uses the StashSafe 200 as her fannypac/purse! I carried the MetroSafe and found it to be comfortable and roomy.

Getting Closer!!!

Has anyone ordered/received t-shirts from the Printfection.com website? How'd they turn out?

Hi John ... I ordered the shirts from the second site posted, not sure if that was printfection or not. I'll check in when they arrive and let you know. ETA .. I did order from printfection. I'll let you know!

By the way. You were booked on the Chocolate Museum tour were you not? Did your's get cancelled as well. Just wondering the response others got. I was booked on the Gothic Quarter City Walk and it was cancelled due to Tour Operator problems. Not all cruises were cancelled. Ours seems to be one of the unlucky ones.

We will be sailing the Disney Magic 11 day mediterranean cruise July 7

can't wait - traveling with 3 kids 12, 10 and 8

any ideas on what to wear on the excursions? Looks like capris are the
safest bet since shorts need to be below the knees

Hi MJ,
Yep we've reserved the Chocolate Museum excursion. I have not heard from DCL that it is cancelled and it is still listed in my reservations on DCL's website. Is the one you booked still listed?

If it is cancelled, no big deal - we'll find something else to do on the Magic.

:welcome: Welcome aboard Lyn :welcome:

I too will be wearing mostly Capris on the excursions. I just hope it isn't too warm. Are you arriving in Barcelona early? If so, some of us are meeting at Meson David in Barcelona on July 6 @ 8 pm.

Funny ... I spoke to DCL when my TA told me mine was cancelled. It was still on my reservation, so I called DCL and they confirmed (twice, by two different reps) that the Gothic Quarter, Chocolate Museum and Aquarium tour were all cancelled. My tour did disappear from my reservation later that day.

Interesting :confused3

Still might get a new suitcase too....and then there is always the new clothes for the trip! Of course Eleni wants all new clothes too!:rotfl: :rotfl:
Have a good weekend....if you find the time!
Happy Mom's day :tinker:

We won't be able to meet since we're not leaving Newark until July 6 on the red eye but thanks for the offer

Hi Denise - you are welcome! ( although your dalmation bag sounds cute too!)

Lyn - are you from NJ? We live near Ridgewood, NJ and are flying out of Newark on July 4th! Flight is at 7:30pm - It has always been one of my "things to do" in my lifetime - to see fireworks from the sky - I don't know why - but I have always wanted to, and thought it would be neat. BUT, I don't think our 7:30pm flight will offer us that opportunity! LOL! Anyway - welcome aboard!

What color t'shirt is everyone ordering (if they are) from John's (our dog's) design??

Take care all,
Sherri
