seven dwarves mine train on fire

There is a big difference between the ride itself being on fire, and something around the ride being on fire. I do believe this was the latter, so there's no reason for the ride itself not to reopen, and there's no way in the world they would have reopened it if there was an chance it could have been damaged.

As far as some of the comments on this thread, good grief. Just because someone says they will be disappointed if a ride is down doesn't make them a bad person who doesn't care about others. I guess there are two kinds of people in this world, those with common sense, and those without. The stitch remark was a simple joke. Get over yourselves. Besides, aren't personal attacks prohibited on this board? Silly me, but I would consider calling someone an idiot as being a personal attack.

The Mermaid picture is hilarious.
Rode 7DMT at 1:30am (EDT), and it was in excellent shape, with no fire related smells.

It will be interesting to see if Wishes (or Wishes Washdown) is affected. Perhaps there is a way to fireproof the "landscaping" at 7DMT.

Call me a wuss but really I would not feel comfortable riding until there was a daylight inspection. I understand that they are saying it was superficial but not this girl...not until that ride has seen the light of day. If there was enough wind to cause that on the landscaping how can they be sure about the tracks ?

I'm here now, just got home from a very late EMH night at MK and I can confirm that the Mine Ride was fully functioning shortly after the fire, because we rode it twice at about 12:30 am and was a blast! :thumbsup2

I seem to remember something similar a few months ago when fireworks set off a small fir in Fantasyland...glad all is fine andd ride is back up and running!

We were discussing the possibility of no castle fireworks when it got to certain windspeed. Because even though they only close the area up to the Carousel, we all remember Mermaid catching on fire (past their "safety area") and now this. The only reason why it caught on fire was because there was HUGE gusts of winds. We watched Wishes by the Tomorrowland Speedway and the smoke in our view was actually very minimal because it blew away so quickly. Only downside was on the way to the teacups, we noticed it set the mine train on fire. Oops. CMs handled everything great though and I can assure you we were only watching it burn for about 7 minutes before they pushed us towards tomorrowland and the hub for the firemen. And I tried to do my part and calm down a few children who were freaked out by letting them know all the dwarves were out and that the firemen would keep them safe. A few stickers really helped too. But overall, it made for a really memorable night and a good memory since everything is fine now.

Once the fireworks are loaded, they have to be used. It could be that they considered delaying, but if the winds were forecast to get higher .... Then it's best to get it done.
But on the backstage magic tour, they explained that they cannot unload the fireworks and cannot leave them in place overnight.
So, if anything, maybe they would temporarily suspend the mine train if winds were above a certain speed during the fireworks?

So glad to read that the fire was not too serious. We arrive next Saturday and have two sets of fast passes for it during our stay

Great job by the fire department

We actually seen some ashes from the fire works hit the roof of Winnie the Pooh a few years ago. They got extinguished immediately

Guys lets not jump on Reddy Creek and how they may or may not be Disney CMs. The first responders would never put a guests safety in jeopardy no matter how much Disney may try to strong arm them. They do have rules not formed by Disney that have to be followed.
I agree.

I acknowledged Disney's control of Reedy Creek earlier, but I still felt confident they'd follow proper procedures.

Not sure why that would be the case at Disney World. Disneyland can keep them loaded for up to 48 hours before doing something about it. There are many times they have to cancel theirs at the last minute due to high winds. I have to imagine it would be the same for Disney World.

I wonder if this has to do with compressed air launch vs gunpowder mortar shell launch. There's most likely a mixture of launch tech throughout the Disney empire. We have noticed more fire watch observers during fireworks since the Fantacyland makeover.

Well...there was the time my dd and I were in line to meet Ariel...the line wound all around and back to the outside, with no meeting Ariel. It was really odd. Nothing was said as to why it was closed so quickly. So, my dd texted a CM that she knows, who is a friend of a 'friend' of Ariels. Acutually dd is as well, but figured she wouldn't bother her 'friend' who was working, in costume (if you get my drift). The guy friend texted her back that there had been a fire backstage...and all CMs evacuated! It was small and was dealt with quickly. We said nothing but got in the line. Told the CM that we were there to see Brooke, a 'friend' of Ariel's and we needed to be in room whatever. He put us over to the side and after about 20 mins, we got to go in. All was well...but you wouldn't think the underwater world of Ariel would catch fire...but it did!!!! Happens more often than we would think from what I've been told.

At WDW now and have not ridden yet, rode once and that was plenty for us. If we walked by and it was a short wait then maybe.

All reports say it was minor, immediately put out and no one hurt. Thank goodness. Now that being said, the park has fire works every night and no one though of flying embers?:confused3

They do think about it but things happen. Ever walk through Fantasyland just before fireworks? Especially under Columbia Harbour House going towards IASW? Ever notice the water dripping from the roof, even though it hasn't rained? The roofs are doused with water so they aren't dry before fireworks...but again, things happen.

Same thing with Little Mermaid not too long ago.

Saw the news and that's just awful, and very scary. SO glad no one was hurt. We just rode this 1.5 weeks ago. Very bad for Disney...especially if it's from fireworks. I mean, that can happen with any ride. Do you think they'll stop the fireworks all together? (Sorry haven't read through all 16 pages if this has been discussed already)

PS - But I guess on the flip side, it easier for them to re-open 7DMT when they've fixed the damage (compared with it catching fire due to mechanical issues...i.e. meaning the ride itself wasn't safe)

SO GLAD no one was hurt!:thumbsup2

I am SO LOOKING FORWARD to riding this in Dec! :santa:

We will see today if it is functioning all right! Hope so!:)
