September 29, 2007 - Magic

Your pics are so cute Jac! Believe it or not, my DD has only been to the Mickey pool ONCE the whole cruise. We didn't have time, it's either she's at the club or I'm dragging her to a photo op. My DH was complaining that he never got to sleep in 'coz I was waking everyone up at 7am! We DEFINITELY need a longer cruise in '09. We're skipping '08 'coz we have 2 weeks of Marriott Vacation Club that we have to use by Dec. '08.

HI TO ALL!

Pauline

I know that some of you vacation in Vero Beach..... please tell me about it. Do they have a kids club where the kids have activities?

I'm looking at Interval Internation where I can exchange my Marriott and they have Aug and September '08 open.. but that means we'll have 1 full week there. Is there enough to do with Sarah?

Thanks.

Pauline

Interesting question. I haven't been to Vero Beach (yet?) but I didn't think any of "those" had kids clubs?

We may do WDW in April '08 and then cruise April '09.

Wow!!! There ARE lots of things to do in Vero Beach! - That was Vero beach you were talking about, right Tonya? :)

Irene- cool! Do you know where DCL will be in April '09?

For '08 I think we've almost decided on 1 week in Aruba and our 2nd week vacation will be in the east coast in the DC area. We'll definitely do a DCL cruise in '09 hopefully it'll go to the Med as that's what we really want! :thumbsup2

Well, the year is almost over, so no more vacations for us unless we pursue our Christmas in New York plan. :confused3

Hi everyone! Our own beautiful So Cal is in turmoil right now with all the fires! I hope and pray that we don't have any here in South County.

Glad to see you are ok right now and hope all stays that way! I always think of you now when I hear of things going on in CA. Yes, that is the Vero Beach I posted the info about. I want to go to Aruba and NY you are lucky!!

Hi Pauline !
We haven't been to Vero in 6 years----but we loved our last stay. Very low-key quiet resort and surrounding area. My uncle lives 10 min away from the resort.
Tonya posted some very good info. I'm involved in a Vero Beach thread here on the DIS and felt this link will really help you to learn alot about the resort. There is a kid's club but we never ended up using it. My kids were little when we stayed there and couldn't get them away from either the beach or the pool.
Here's the link (as we have all you Californians in our prayers ! Looks so scary out there. Hope things improve very soon especially with those winds.)

Hi everyone!
Thanks for everyone's prayers regarding the fires. There are a lot of people displaced in Southern California. In our situation, there's that BIG fire in the Santiago Canyon and now has moved into Modjeska canyon, Foothill Ranch which is about a 20 min drive but no threat to us and on the other side of us is the Camp Pendelton and San Diego fire. Yikes! We're right smack in the middle of of 2 major fires! We're close to a mountain range also, but that has been checked regularly and we have our own fire station in our little community. The residents here have been OVERLY cautious as everyone should be and are reporting everything on our community website.
I feel for those who have to be evacuated and there are a lot of them from San Diego and I have friends who live in Foothill Ranch. Lots of smoke in the area especially yesterday, but the winds have died down, thank God!

Regards to all.

Pauline

Pauline, so glad to hear you guys are ok. I keep thinking I don't have your e-mail address with me and totally forgot about posting! :headache:

My bf lives in SoCal and she said the smoke is just horrible and disgusting.

Our prayers go out to all those displaced and hopefully the fires will be contained soon. :grouphug:

We didn't have internet access this morning and I was on the verge of having internet withdrawals :rotfl: cox said it was because of the fires  the o.c. fire is still burning and the evacauation site is in the nearby neighborhood. the san diego fire is terrible. so we have fires on the right of us and to the left of us  it's gross outside.. smokey, ashey, and just plain yucky! but i'm going out to shop :) so i feel better :rolleyes1
schools are open, but all activities are done indoors, p.e. and lunches. hopefully the worst is over.

GG: is your son going to camp pendelton? there's a BIG fire there too. Carlsbad (close to pendelton) is without power or phone (land line). I'm not sure if the pendelton fire has been contained, but in san onofre (there's a nuclear power plant ?? there) they've shut down that plant and won't start up until all the fire has been fully contained.

oh thank God the people displaced have a place to go and so far, no riots or looting and everything is running peacefully as opposed to louisiana. most people that we know of are either in hotels or with relatives.

thank you thank you.. please keep them in your prayers.

:wizard: praying for you all ...:grouphug:

Do you have a trip report going? I would love to read it but do not know how to find it. Can you provide a link?
THANKS

We went to Vero Beach for two nights after the cruise. We mostly did old-folks stuff (but we are 58) like watch the Colt's Football game, check the e-mail and DIS, walk the beach, swim in the pool and walk around the DVC property on the other side of the road that is like a country park.

For us it was a transition-time from the ship to home. They had a towel animal waiting for us as well as shampoo and plenty of towels. We had to make our own bed, pay for our own food and make our own coffee, but someone else would change the sheets, wash the towels and vacuum when we left.

Pauline ~
You are most definitely in our thoughts and prayers. Everytime I turn on the TV or radio and hear about these fires I think of you and hope you're ok. I'm also friends with the aunt of an up and coming actor in Hollywood. Not sure if you all are familiar with Mike Vogel, but I have been hearing about various troubles in So CA from her as well through her conversations with Mike and his wife. So tragic what is happening there and to think they found at least two of these fires were deliberately set.

Stay safe Pauline and family............

:confused3 Hi Groooves,
I don't know where he has been dropping water but he says that he drops over 11 thousand pounds at a time and the firemen on the ground just love it..He can see them cheering every time he drops the water (it makes him feel good) at least he knows what he is doing, is helping someone..
have a nice day,
gg

GG: Yes! Thank God for your son and his team! I've heard planes flying around our area the other day. I guess they were helping to contain the O.C. fire.

Schools were closed today and half day yesterday. I guess we'll be at the mall with the other moms and kids who have nowhere to go 'coz it's so gross outside!

Maria: Thank you for your thoughts and prayers:flower3: Yes, they said that the Santiago (o.c. fire) was deliberate and almost professionally done as they knew exactly where to start a fire where it would cover a lot of land and do a lot of damage. A lot of people have lost their homes in the canyons because those are older homes. While in a community like ours and the ones in foothill ranch and stevenson ranch (the fire didn't get to them), the builders abide by the new and very strict fire codes. For example, the homes don't have wood shingles or wood siding etc. Most of our homes are stucco and we have tiled roof.
P.S. Mike Vogel's name is familiar. What shows was he on? Does he live in Malibu like the rest of the celebrities?

TTFN,
Pauline :hippie:
