Oh thanks Woody ..... never booked a taxi in Europe ( apart from GB) so thats interesting to know.

:rotfl::rotfl: I think it was you !!!! That makes you a fruit loop :rotfl::rotfl:

Does anyone know if it's possible to WALK to the port from the hotel if your luggage has wheels and is easy to manipulate ( I am rubbish at estimating distance). That would eliminate all the taxi hassle.
good point, we are near the port as well.
I think someone was organising a navigator weren't they? Cant remember who - hope it wasn't me now as I sound like a fruit loop if it was
Yes, I remember.....it was definatly you Sarah.

I agree! Quite impressive!

Thank you for the update! Looks like the majority of us at Praktik Rambla are arriving Thursday. Our predecessors will know all the ropes of the city once we get there!

Since we are coming in on Thursday morning on 9/09 we should be old Barcelona hands by the time you all come in. If I can get my computer up and running when we get there, I will post some of our adventures on this thread and answer any last minute questions you may have.

That sounds awesome. We won't be arriving until Friday which will not leave us a lot of time to venture around. We definitely want to see some of Barcelona but once we are on the ship, I don't see us getting off until Gibraltar.

As an aside, is anyone collating an "agenda" of activities and meets onboard? For the EB Panama, we had a fairly extensive agenda and daily activities planned that people could attend, some of these events turned out to be real highlights too.

Also should we consider getting a bus/shuttle or even minivans to the port instead of taxi's from the PR and other nearby hotels?

I'm interested in bus/shuttle from the PR! :thumbsup2

Love this picture! I think I may look like that bear when I'm on Castaway Cay. :lmao:

New Security measures. Saw this on a UK site and thought you should see!!

This is too funny! Thanks! :rotfl2:

It would be great to get some group activities set up for the cruise .... I know some people are interested in a Ladies Tea and maybe a group Beer or Wine tasting session, and there was talk of a scrapbooking group. Any other ideas?

Sounds like fun! I love tea! How 'bout a cocktail tasting too? I would love to have a scrapbooking session but I am a newbie and will have a lot of questions so I hope I won't be too annoying.

I saw on the ebTA page that they have organized group dinners and brunches at Palo. Is that something that we're considering doing as well, as we get closer to the booking date?

I love this idea! :cake: We can probably fill Palo because there are so many of us. Wouldn't it be great to have a Dis dinner/brunch at Palo? Has anyone done this before? Is it as simple as putting a call into DCL?

I believe the private room at Palo is for 12 minimum and 14 maximum. You can get groups together and put in requests. The decisions are only made about a month out, so it is advisable to also make your own private bookings(if you can of course) so you do have a fall back plan if not successful. If you are on a group list that is successful then your private booking is automatically cancelled.

There were a few groups planned on out 2008 repo, and i think most if not all were successful.

There is a private dining room available for dinner and brunch that holds up to 14. You have to have at least 12 to book it. I have been involved with DIS groups that booked this room. You have to have someone to organize and separate into groups of 12-14, then each group gets a "lead" person who would fax a request for the room with the names of the people in their group. If you have more than 14 in some groups you can request that they seat an extra 4 or so at the tables right outside the door of the private dining room. We've only done this for brunch and it is not, I believe, available for tea. I have the fax number if anyone is interested in organizing this. Just a heads up, if you are the "lead" you would need to contact all your group and remind them to show up. Some groups had no shows that brought the group below 12 and the dining manager of Palo was not amuzed. :rolleyes1 We were afraid that those folks might give the DIS groups a bad name with him and they might be hesitant to book for us again, but I think they are still working with the DIS groups.

Angie, I knew you would answer!!!

Am I right in thinking if under 12 turn people up they can charge you for the no shows?

I got a quote for a bus to pick up a the praktik barclona and praktik rambla to the port. It was 229 euros. That was for 30 people on a 55 passenger bus. I ask for that amount because the disers like to pack and we will all have a seat. it equals to 7.64 euros per person. with is $10.60 cents a person before the conversion fee and credit card fees. It would be about $15.00 per person.

Wow! That's a great price!!! Thanks for getting this information nacho1337!!! I'm in! :thumbsup2

Depending on when it would leave, you can count us in as well for the bus transfer!

Also, having a private room group dinner at Palo sounds fun! Count us in for that as well!

Don't know if anyone is interested but I think Gus and I are going to book this tour on one of our days before the cruise...

We've done both Segway Tours at WDW and in Washington DC and loved it so can't wait to do this one!!

I was just coming over here to post that Marc and I had decided to take advantage of Segways in Barcelona, too! We had fun with the tour at Fort Wilderness and we've done the DCA one as well. We also had fun with the Nassau tour but I guess DCL won't be doing that anytime soon if ever again!

We are sooooooooooo ready (read NEED!!!!) for this cruise; wish it was happening a bit sooner!

Just an FYI here--they have quite a few vans which are taxis. They are quite plentiful at the airport. This is what we used going to the airport with my in laws in 2007 (six people and a slew of luggage)--not a private van at all. We oculd haev had one at the port if we had waited a few minutes but we did not mind splitting up (and the taxis did stay right together). It is also pretty common and easy to arrange to have a taxi driver you liked come back the next day (or whenever0 at an appointed time to ceom and take you somewhere else. So, you could have someone take you from the airport to teh hotel, and then arrange that same van sized taxi to come back for you and take you to the port when you need. Get a phone number just in case (and tip well as an added incentive.

thanks for all the info! Wow, I really appreciate it. :)
So you think/your suggestion would be to just wait till we get there and we can grab a van for our family without setting this up ahead of time? I think that's what you're saying- but just making sure......

We would love to join a Palo brunch group- if one of the groups will have us. :) We've never done palo brunch- we had it booked on one cruise one time but then cancelled it.... and never booked it in the other cruises. I know I've read a lot about it and seems we're missing out by never doing that. But for us by ourselves it would just be about the food and we always find we're never lacking for food (ie: never hungry) on the ship. LOL It's different if it's not just about the food but also visiting with DIS'ers. :)

Sounds like so much fun. I really want to do a segway tour sometime. I don't know how we could do it with the kids though. Are all of you going without kids or with only older kids? How are you doing this stuff! LOL
Honestly I'm starting to wonder what in the world we'll do with ourselves for 3 days (we're arriving Wed morning) since we're basically limited to doing things that the kids can do- even the youngest. It's not like we can leave them "at home" with the oldest... since that's not home, it's an apt in Barcelona. yanno? LOL eh well, we'll figure out something..... haha

There'll be trouble on this cruise if your bear hooks up with my daughter's Princess Bunny. There was no end to the trouble we found her in on our recent cruise!

One margarita at the Concierge reception,

And she thought she'd go for a swim!

It took us awhile to figure out where the bar charges were coming from:
IMG_2563.jpg

But we finally found the source!
IMG_2078.jpg

She even tried to crash the pirate party!
IMG_2037.jpg

And one day she headed off to get herself dressed up
IMG_1956.jpg

So she could go to Palo

For High Tea

Then off to Topsiders for breakfast to sober up! (in case you were wondering if she had a Cinderella outfit as well!)

We've done the brunch on every cruise we've been on, and just love it. On our Wonder cruise a few weeks ago, DH and I even opted to skip Palo dinner so we could do brunch instead, since we didn't have enough days inbetween to do both.

I hear you on the doing things with kids. How old are your kids? We'll have a 3 and 6 yr old with us, so segways, gocars, and other things are definitely out. I'm still looking for good things that we can do with them the 2 days we'll be in Barcelona pre-cruise. But at least you'll have an apartment. I'm taking the cheap way out and using Marriott points for the Renaissance near the airport for us and my in-laws.

I just saw this tour was voted the #1 attraction in Barcelona out of 301 on Tripadvisor!!
I'm even more excited now!!

We don't have any kids at the moment but you will find all kinds of things to do. The hop on hop off bus sounds perfect for you guys! Have you checked it out yet?

No doubt people on the two previous Trans-Atlantic cruises can give us great ideas for group activities. Not sure if this will help inspire some more ideas or not, but feel free to look at our "Go-To" post from our cruise in September 2008. Just look for my first post.

BTW, I am loving the pictures of the little critter vacationers!

It would be great to share a van or shuttle to the port from the Praktik Rambla ... I wonder if the hotel could set this up for us ... or at least be able to recommend a company.

I'm all for some group activities!:cool1:

:rotfl2::rotfl2:
Lynne came to your rescue!!!

I'm sure Angie, Dennis, John and I will host an Old Geezers and GIT's soiree in Cove Cafe one or two evenings!!!;)
I'm in for the geezers!:goodvibes

Now that's a great deal! :woohoo:

On the EB Panama we had a PJ breakfast, wenches lunch at Parrot Cay, Scavenger Hunt, Ice Cream Eating contest and loads more - we took over entire areas of the ship at times which was funny.

We also did group excursions on some stops. Personally we did the Ziplines at Puerto Vaiata (can't spell that) and I think there were about 40 of us and also someone organised minivan tours in Cartegena.

We did talk about a chocolate bar/candy swap for this cruise and I really do like the idea of a "book exchange" cabin.

I think someone was organising a navigator weren't they? Cant remember who - hope it wasn't me now as I sound like a fruit loop if it was

I don't remember either but if no one else volunteers, I'd be happy to try to put something together with others input?

Yes, if you no show you still pay. The names and cabin numbers have to be on the fax sent in to request the room. We can have someone request the room for each sea day, so lots of people can participate. Note: You cannot be on this list and also book a brunch on your own prior to sailing. But, you could check once on board to see if second seating for you alone would be available. And someone needs to be coordinating this. I see a couple of people have said they would like to participate, but there is not yet anyone to keep track of those names.

That sounds good to us. If we pay cash (euros) then there would be no conversion/credit card fees...correct?
