Well, it's been a long time since I've posted. Haven't even really kept up with the threads in a few months. Just been too busy with family, life & work.

We're still super excited about the cruise next year, and I'm happy to announce we'll have one more with us. We're expecting a boy in September, with a due date of 9/18. So, he'll be about a year old during the cruise. We just had to figure out something to celebrate on the ship! His big sister Rosalynn, will be almost 4.

Here's a recent picture of us on a trip to Colorado a couple of weeks ago.

Alex

Well done to you both!

Actually, it's me Erik....Jason never even reads these boards. (It's my responsibility to keep him up to date:lmao:). No I didn't do a trip report....I'm far too busy and, more importantly, lazy for that! :rotfl2::rotfl2: Our trip in May was great though. We had perfect weather...a wonderful 10 days at WDW and then a FAR too short 4 night cruise on the Wonder (although it was nice to be on the Wonder again....haven't been on that ship in a very long while).

DUH! I really did know that! I was actually going to type both your names and must have gotten distracted!! I'm glad you had a great trip!!!

:woohoo: Congratulations Mom, Dad, and Big Sis!

So true! It really was awesome following Sarah's journey! I certainly look forward to Alex's little bundle!

BTW, after we got back from the cruise, we also found out that there was a stole away! ;) He was born just about a month ago. So someone needs to fill that position for all of us! :rotfl2: I'm thinking the not-so-new-newlyweds, Amy and Dave, should apply for the job. Grandma Melodie, is that okay with you?

Shhhhh! A potential grandma can only hope!!!! :rolleyes1

While we're on the topic of airfare, for those of us on the fence about purchasing through DCL or on your own, check out the new DCL cancelation policy that my TA passed along to me yesterday.

The cancellation or change fee is noted below, broken down by the number of days prior to your cruise:

Domestic Air

74-45 days - $50 per person

44-31 days - 50% of air add on per person

30-0 days - 100% of air add on per person

International Air

89-45 days - 50% of air add on per person

44-0 days - 100% of air add on per person

Also, DCL has noted a more specific definition of what they consider a cancellation, including correcting the spelling of a name. As noted by John at DU:

This new policy reflects a change in what Disney defines as a cancellation (gateway changes/cancellations, flight date changes and name changes/corrections) as well as places new parameters on the timing/amount of fees related to air changes.

This is in addition to the 'regular' cancellation/change fee schedule for DCL cruise line reservations that apply to the cruise portion of a reservation.

We had a great weekend. We went camping near Niagara Falls in our pop-up trailer. We stayed at Jellystone Park which was ok. Some of the sites were dreadful IMHO (open, no privacy, no trees) but the sites we selected were fine for that kind of park (we knew it would be different from a provincial park).

We went to the Falls for the 4th of July fireworks - that was a really neat experience. The kids saw the Falls during the daytime, and then all lit up at night. It was packed, though, kinda like WDW. At one point we were up against a stone and metal barrier and the edge of the falls was mere metres away! My friend and I were worried hens about the kids getting too close, then when papa took the baby to see the Falls I was quite worried. I'm gonna have to work myself up to the cruise!:rotfl:

The next day we went to the Butterfly Conservatory- cool! I was lucky enough to have many land on me and I got some great shots of butterflies and planted the seed in DP's brain that I love those butterfly specimen shadow boxes and Christmas is right around the corner...:3dglasses

All in all it was a great trip. I think we will go back next year and do some touristy kinda things around the Falls themselves (Maid of the Mist, Ripley's, etc). Wow that downtown core is bizarre! I can't decide it I think it's cool or grotesque. It's also a bit steep, with many people walking across the street, and tight turns. And me driving the van with the pop-up taking wrong turn after wrong turn! I was glad for electric brakes on the trailer and good vision. :rotfl: (Did I mention the vehicle plus trailer is over 20 feet long?)

We're back now and the camping stuff is still not all put away. We're going again in a few weeks for a week quite far up north (past Sudbury) so should get our yearly quota of mosquitos and pine scent with that trip.

I love vacationing, and our coming cruises are never far away from my imagination!

Awwww I spent many drunken nights trying to walk up and down Clifton Hill , or would that be stumble ..lol the worst part about it was walking across the Rainbow bridge to get back to the American side of the Falls ...lol - Its been many years but I have seen alot of fireworks on the Falls and they have always been spectacular shows ...

Do you live near the falls? Jason, my dear hubby, and I live in Rochester, NY....so Niagara Falls is practically in our back yard. We spent the weekend in the opposite direction, though, in Hamilton, NY----about an hour southeast of Syracuse headed towards Utica, NY. (That's where Jason's father and stepmother, his closest (both geographically and emotionally) family members, live)

We are in the Toronto-area so very close! It is about 2 hrs to Niagara Falls from our place, give or take.

I've passed through Rochester many, many times, but never stopped in.

OK now I know we have covered this but I can't find the info anywhere (prob like 2 threads back) and so thought might as well ask again.

Do we know what is happening RE: Fuel Surcharge?

The reason I'm asking is I just priced the April TA up (out of curiosity and boredom) and its almost $300 cheaper than the September TA for a Cat 11 even though both had the same starting price and the same room price ($999 each) but the Eastbound TA has taxes of only $99 while the Westbound TA has $345 or something like that. Any thoughts?

I was charged the fuel surcharge on my WestBound of $224 and taxes and fees of $123 and change (for two people in a Cat 7.) Taxes and fees are probably a bit higher due more ports of call on the WestBound. So you are seeing the Eastbound without fuel surcharge I'm thinking.

I don't believe DCL is putting fuel curcharges on ANY new bookings right now.

The way I understand it, new bookings are not currently charged the supplement. Those of us that are already charged have the possibility of getting an OBC dependent upon the barrel price of oil at a predetermined date before our cruise. I don't have those dates handy, but there's a day they check each quarter that will determine whether or not cruises are charged. The barrel price must be below $70 on that date, and they are hard lined on that $70. If it is $70.01 then the supplement will be charged.

The only way for us to have the supplement removed is to cancel and rebook. Depending on current price, we may or may not save any money. There are a few cruisers who have been able to just get the fuel charge waived without rebooking, but those are far and few between.

We are coming to Toronto for my birthday in August, I think. I was the second highest individual fundraiser at my community's annual AIDS Walk last month and one of my prizes was a free night's hotel stay in Toronto...so we were thinking that my birthday in late August might be a nice time to take a quick weekend trip up there. We love Toronto but haven't been in over a year!

Thanks everyone for the responses. I also emailed DCL to ask them about it and this is what they sent me:

For already booked cruises, the criteria for refund will be determined
on a quarterly basis by the market price of the New York Mercantile
Exchange (NYMEX). If the closing price on the New York Mercantile
Exchange of West Texas Intermediate fuel is below $70. a barrel two
weeks prior to the beginning of the calendar quarter, the company will
refund fuel surcharges. These will be paid in the form of an onboard
credit.

If applicable, information regarding the Fuel Supplement Onboard Credit
will appear on your confirmation. In addition, Guests will receive a
notification in their stateroom that an onboard credit has been placed
on their shipboard account.

*For those sailing in the third quarter of 2010 (July 1 - September 30),
the fuel price determination date is: June 17, 2010
*For those sailing in the fourth quarter of 2010 (October 1 - December
31), the fuel price determination date is: September 17, 2010

So I guess next June we find out about whether they will knock the fuel surcharge off. It's the day before our 90 day mark according to me.

Now I've had a nose on the website for NYMEX and found this:
http://www.nymex.com/CS_market_data.aspx
Now if I am right (which I think I am) this shows them predicting it will be under $70 next year but obviously this may change by the cruise. Would be nice to get some more OBC

We are holding our breathe for this year's cruise. I know that the people sailing in the third quarter did not qualify for the refund, because on the cut off date the price per barrel was just above the $70 mark. Our cut off date is September 17th.
