Hey - anybody else booking airfare for their trip through DCL? We are as a plan B, and considering flying in a few days early and staying at a hotel as arranged through DCL. We're thinking the Hilton Diagonal Mar. Anyone else thinking about this option? We'll definitely need 2 rooms as we are 3 adults and 3 kids and it seems that the rooms are not North American-big with double beds or King bed. Most seem to allow a spare rollaway bed though...

Thoughts? The airfare quoted for us is a little less than 1k each, transfers in. Seems reasonable when airfare return from MCO to home is over 500 per person at the absolute cheapest...

I have DCL air booked, but will start looking for my own in early 2010. Depending on what I find, I may cancel the DCL air.

I believe the max in hotel rooms is 3. The rooms in Europe are definitely NOT what we are used to in the US.

I didn't price out hotels through DCL but I remember they were quite expensive (like $500 per room per night). You can get rooms much cheaper on your own, but then I think you'd have to get your own airfare too.

What did Disney charge you from SFO to BCN and the MCO to SFO? I have been debating on having Disney do my flight as well, since it is not looking cheap (unless you buy a round-trip ticket and don't use the return - which I am not sure they looking kindly on these days).

I am loving all this talk about airfare... keep it coming! I priced some the other day (just quickly, to look - not looking to book it), and wow(!) it appears that might make it cost-prohibitive for us... :guilty: Hopefully we can make something work!

We are in the same boat: book now, see what happens.

Yes - 3 appears to be the max, that's why we know we'll need 2 rooms.

We too are a family of 5, plus my mom. That makes everything expensive!

Please see my thread entitled, "Disney, thou art frustrating" for a situation relating to our cruise I encountered. Thanks!

We booked the flight, hotel & transfers when we booked hoping we could find something cheaper later on. We like having the reservations in place if we can't do something different. I'm looking at our DCL air ressie which is from SMF (Sacramento on the red eye) to BCN on the 16th arriving in the am on the 17th & then MCO to SMF on Oct 2. and for 4 people it's booked at $4457.20.

Our pre & post landing pkg which is the hotel room on the 17th of Sept in BCN and our transfers in BCN and then to MCO are $1,202.00.

Again this is for 4 people and it does include 2 hotel rooms. I'm not sure how they calculate it, but I was told when we booked that the rooms would be approx $500 p/n. It must include the BCN transfers as it doesn't leave much for the MCO transfers:confused3

We have flown rt to MCO 2 x's in the last year and have not paid over $1,200 for the 4 of us and one was for a flight booked 7 weeks away.

I can't wait to start shopping around for flights & hotels. I haven't stayed in Europe for many, many years and that was with DH without children, so I don't know the accommodation customs. Maybe we should all get together and rent a castle. How fitting would that be?:wizard:

I went up tonight and looked at some vacation rentals in Barcelona. Sorry, no castles available from my research, but our familiy has done vacation rentals for many years and we've never had a problem. However, I've never done one out of the country and yes I have heard of problems with fly by nights & scams. You need to do your research.

That said, it looks like there are some very affordable rentals out there for the adventurous particularly if you are staying more than 1 night. Google Barcelona Vacation Rentals by Owner or VRBO and search Barelona there. I personally like the VRBO site and you may need to scroll down the blank area of the search screen to find it.

I'd certainly do some research if you find a place you're interested in, get references and verify before renting, but some of these rentals certainly seem affordable, sleep many people, and have been renting for many years which adds a piece of credibility for them. I'll look into it for us as we do hope to stay for more than 1 night. Some of our best accommodations have been in vacation homes.

Just a thought.

Can't get DCL air from the UK so not bothering. Hoping to start looking for flights early next year.

I think this is probably the reason why the boat was so empty last time. It's really expensive which ever way you go

I'm actually out of OAK for $1010. SFO was only about $10 more though, but since I'm already on the OAK side, I stuck with it.

And remember when pricing, that also includes bus from the airport to the port in BCN then again at MCO.

We got buried several pages back!

Heading out for camping this weekend at Jellystone Park with the kids. We have a little tent trailer. First time out with the new van - fingers crossed all the wiring works fine for the electric brakes! (We have a 2008 Honda Odyssey - love, love, love it!).

Going to moms house for the weekend. Should be able to finish cleaning and put it up for sale next week.

Have a great 4th everyone,
back on monday,

Kathy

Hey All,

I know I'm terrible about keeping up with this board lately...life is so crazy....so much cheerleading/tumbling eating up my schedule plus tons and tons of stuff going on with work (my agency has decided to merge with another organization in our area so we have a big move in location in the next few months coupled with a huge agency culture shift as we double our staff and have new employees, supervisors, co-workers, exec. dir., etc. :scared1::scared1:).

Anyhow....Jason and I are still alive and kicking here.....we are leaving in just a few minutes to head to Jason's father's house in Central NY for 4th of July weekend and a mini-reunion. Jason's brother and sister, who both live in the Atlanta area, are up and his sister has her 3 children with her----the youngest being her new 4 week old daughter.

Hope everyone is well!

While we're on the topic of airfare, for those of us on the fence about purchasing through DCL or on your own, check out the new DCL cancelation policy that my TA passed along to me yesterday.

The cancellation or change fee is noted below, broken down by the number of days prior to your cruise:

Domestic Air

74-45 days - $50 per person

44-31 days - 50% of air add on per person

30-0 days - 100% of air add on per person

International Air

89-45 days - 50% of air add on per person

44-0 days - 100% of air add on per person

Well, it's been a long time since I've posted. Haven't even really kept up with the threads in a few months. Just been too busy with family, life & work.

We're still super excited about the cruise next year, and I'm happy to announce we'll have one more with us. We're expecting a boy in September, with a due date of 9/18. So, he'll be about a year old during the cruise. We just had to figure out something to celebrate on the ship! His big sister Rosalynn, will be almost 4.

Here's a recent picture of us on a trip to Colorado a couple of weeks ago.

Jason - haven't heard much about your vacation! Did you do a trip report? Hope everyone had a great time.

Congrats!!!! We had someone on our DD thread from our cruise last year who found out she was going to bring someone extra along on that cruise. We had so much fun following along, celebrating at her birth and finally getting to meet her on the cruise!! She's like extended family for us!

Actually, it's me Erik....Jason never even reads these boards. (It's my responsibility to keep him up to date:lmao:). No I didn't do a trip report....I'm far too busy and, more importantly, lazy for that! :rotfl2::rotfl2: Our trip in May was great though. We had perfect weather...a wonderful 10 days at WDW and then a FAR too short 4 night cruise on the Wonder (although it was nice to be on the Wonder again....haven't been on that ship in a very long while).

:woohoo: Congratulations Mom, Dad, and Big Sis!

So true! It really was awesome following Sarah's journey! I certainly look forward to Alex's little bundle!

BTW, after we got back from the cruise, we also found out that there was a stow away! ;) He was born just about a month ago. So someone needs to fill that position for all of us! :rotfl2: I'm thinking the not-so-new-newlyweds, Amy and Dave, should apply for the job. Grandma Melodie, is that okay with you?
