Sept 16 2012 - WONDERing who's on the Calif Coastal with me?!

I took my son to Alcatraz a couple of years ago and he enjoyed it. They have a junior rangers book that he got to fill out and got a badge when he turned it in.

I'm taking my son out of school for the week. I have to sign the homework contract so the school can still get money. He says he'll finish all his homework before we sail! It'll mostly be review anyways so he shouldn't have any problems.

Lol ceejay and koby are being taken out of school for three and a half weeks :-) they only have to produce something to show the class when they return :-)

We come back in the for the two weeks school break :-) Did I work that out? Sure did :-) :-)

Wow the Alcatraz for kids sounds great. That I must say is the problem about having such an age gap between my kids,!!

Oooh the holiday is so close now I can almost smell it :-)

We have decided that we won't do any excursions. Since we don't have kids we feel confident that my DH's smart phone can navigate us around San Francisco. My DH views the Wonder as our destination and wants to enjoy every moment on board. I however, MUST see SF; I told him I was going to explore wether he comes or not and so he decided to suck it up. We will stay on the boat in Ensenada and San Diego will be a beach day.
We are going to DLR for 4 days after the cruise so I'm working out our plan for that. We missed the Sailing Ship Columbia and POTC last time we were there because they were both being spiffed up. I still have to do the FE for the last min add ons but after that we will be in the clear.
4 weeks left of school for me, then 2 more weeks after that we head to LA. My younger brother is 4 and every time I see him he asks me "Nonnie, (my 3 brother's nickname for me) are you back from your cruise yet with my presents?" :rotfl2:

Hi there! Just booked on this cruise.
I am new on here, and it's our first Disney cruise. I want to be part of the fish extender exchange, but I don't have a stateroom # yet since I booked the lowest category. It's me, my hubby, and my daughter who turns 3 on the cruise. Can we still be a part of this? I have some really cute ideas for little gifts! Please let me know. It won't let me private message anyone since this is my first post.
Thanks.
Gigi

Welcome to the disboards!

Wow, you are going to have such a great time!!! How lucky your daughter is to be able to celebrate her birthday on her first Disney cruise!!

The person who runs the FE exchange will have to answer your question, but I will bring an extra FE for your family even if you aren't officially on the list. As we get closer to the cruise date you can PM me your room info (we don't have our room yet either as we have a GTY).

Hi guys! We're from Ohio- Cleveland actually, we went to Disneyland in Feb this year and this is our first cruise ever. Does anyone have any ideas on types of clothing to pack? We're planning on mostly staying onboard and we're on a super tight budget. We were surprised how cold it was in February and had to make a Target run for jackets!
Any other tips and pointers? I am just learning how to dig around for information on here, so I'm sorry if I'm being totally redundant and 20 people have already asked the same questions! I am planning on packing our pirate costumes and my daughter's princess costumes, and I'm trying to make an FE for the exchange, but anything else?
Thanks.

Welcome Gigi and family. Looking forward to celebrating birthdays with your family and ours!!!

Question-- for those of you doing the Exploratorium or Baseball game in San Fran-- how are you doing that? Are you just going to take a taxi?

thanks!

We are going to take the bus, muni, cable car, etc. You can catch them at pier 39.

We also have family in San Francisco so we're hoping we can get a personal tour guide. :)

We are taking a taxi or the trolley. A friend said it's about 3miles to the stadium from where the Wonder docks at Pier 35.

Is there going to be a meet-up at Disneyland on Saturday the 15th.

That would be great. That is actually our anniversary, so we will be there celebrating that.

We will probably take a taxi, maybe the bus depending on the timing.

Welcome! I'm glad to hear there will be another pre-schooler joining us. I have two, almost 4 year olds coming with me so it'll be great for them to know some more kids at the clubs. We'll be celebrating my daugther's 4th birthday onboard too.

Kim, Aubrey (almost 4), Micah (3)

Hi Kim!
Glad there are other preschoolers too! What are you packing for them? Does your daughter like to dress as the princesses? Can't wait to meet your little ones!
Gigi

Hi Gigi,

Your family will have a wonderful time on the cruise!! This will be cruise #6 for us and we learn new tips and pointers every time we travel.

For the most part you will be fine with casual clothes - bathing suit, shorts, jeans...any Disney attire is perfect ::MickeyMo The princess and pirate outfits will be great. Something a little nicer for dinners in the dining rooms (no jeans or shorts). We tend to always over pack but it's been easier because we live in FL and usually drive to Port Canaveral. This time we have to fly across country so we may be forced to pack smarter.

A few things we have found helpful -
- magnets to decorate your door (no tape),
- small packs of laundry detergent & dryer sheets (so you can do laundry and pack less),
- a laundry bag,
-clothes pins to hang wet bathing suits on the line in the shower,
-small power strip (not many outlets in the cabin),
- Tide to go pen or Shout wipes,
- small bottles of hand sanitizer,
- your camera and charger (maybe extra memory cards) - take it with you everywhere!!!,
- small plastic hooks with suction cups (put these on the back of your door and put your lanyard on it so you can keep track of your room key),
- lanyard,
- a few zip loc bags (actually, as a mom I take these everywhere and have used them for all types of reasons!),
- glow sticks and/or night light

We have been on so many cruises we just keep a large zip loc bag with this stuff in it and have it ready to go each time.

While on the cruise you will get a Navigator with the activities for the day. There are so many fun things to do!! Be sure to visit the characters. There may be lines, but the lines are really short compared to the parks.

Also, use the kids club. Most of the kids really like the activities and it gives you a chance to sit and relax!

And something it took us a while to figure out...if you order "adult beverages" they will include a gratuity. So, be sure to actually look at the receipt, you might want to give more, but know that something has already been included.

Have fun - there have been many cruises where we never left the ship and those have been some of the best times! Enjoy the days the ship is in port because it will be really quiet.

Have fun packing!
Susan
