I feel like I haven't been on here in forever! Driving me NUTS!

I just want to say that I'm still here. I know that I don't write a lot, but I get very self conscious when writing in English.

We're back from a week at Disneyland Paris. We had a very nice time.

We also just booked the Hawaii cruise:cool1: I'm so excited. I have always wanted to see Hawaii, but I hate flying (the 9 hours to Orlando is more that enough), so this is a dream come true for me.

Glad you had a nice time! And don't worry about the English. I'll try to show you my Dutch sometime.

_______

Yep - that's it! :thumbsup2

Hi everyone!

We are joining you, and are all really excited! I'm still working on my post count so I can PM the leaders of this board to be added to the list, but in the meantime... count us in!

We signed up last July, but I just found DISboards and love the sense of community you've already achieved before this sailing - it sounds like you've all known each other for years!

So, we are Dawn and Steve, from Scotland. This is our first Disney cruise and our first TA, although we've sailed with Carnival 4 times and RCI once.

We have two children - Calum will be 6 and Eilidh will be 2 years + 4 months. Calum's counting the days already, and talks about meeting Mickey on the ship all the time. Eilidh (pronounced AY-Lee) is that fun age that's just a bit too young for the kids clubs but will probably be bored in the nursery.

I'd love to contact some of the families with little ones under 3 - we should set up some play mornings (unless this has already been done and I'm just late). We've met some great families on board cruises before, but it would be really neat to get to know people in advance.

I see Tod & Copper and Binkytell are also from Scotland - anyone else from here? I'm Canadian as well, and I saw lots of maple leaf flags about on here :)

So, that's us - I've got tons of reading to do to get us caught up. Only 4 more months!

All my best
Dawn

Welcome aboard, Dawn! Yes - playgroups would be fun! Even just hanging out by the splash area, or accompanying them to the kids club (where we can stay with them to play). :thumbsup2

:welcome: onboard Dawn and family! DH and I are Canadian too but originally from the UK. This is our 4th Disney cruise, but the first without our kids. :) I've learnt lots of useful tips through this forum and am looking forward to meeting everyone in September. :cheer2:

:welcome: aboard! We are Pat and Dennis and this will be our 3rd DCL cruise, but the first for more than 4 nights. We're super-excited about doing this! We have no kids, 5 rescue-dogs of assorted shapes and sizes, and we love all things Disney. We're really just overgrown 5-year-olds with credit cards - and martini glasses.

Okay, my parents are Canadians who moved to Orlando in the '50's and never looked back. I'm a native Floridian w/ a dual citizenship, currently living in central Georgia (I think I must've been reeeeeaaaaalllllly bad in a past life to end up here). I sometimes slip and end my sentences with "eh," and people often comment on my "accent" (as in, "you ain't from around here"). Years ago I traveled a bit in the UK and everyone asked me if I was Canadian. Of course, I said, "yes." So there's another Canadian connection for you! :thumbsup2

Hi Auntlynne, weren't you on the Eastbound TA last April? I think we've met....

Yes, we were on the cruise together. As soon as you posted, I knew exactly who you were (even though you changed your avatar from Beauty & the Beast dancing). Funny how Rapunzel reminds me of you. At the EBTA, I went over and talked to your husband, who was just sitting on the sidelines, as you said he would be. Nice to see that he enjoys cruising with you, despite your association with all of us goobs. :goodvibes

I haven't gotten the Weekly Recap done, as this week my sister and I flew out to California to visit my niece.

Just like Monica's (mishoe) sister, I have been to Wal-Mart and also to Target. No exotic shopping out here, just needed some necessities.

Visited the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley, Santa Barbara (beautiful), and up to Solvang (the town is an old-fashioned Danish village). My niece is in law school at Pepperdine U in Malibu, so we've seen a bit of that, as well. Tomorrow is the Getty Museum, Friday afternoon - Sunday is Catalina Island, and then I'm off to Phoenix to meet my DB and SIL for another week of vacation.

(FYI: DB = dear brother, SIL = sister-in-law)

I love all the things you are doing. My favorite Sushi place in that area is Sushi Roku in Santa Monica on Ocean.

Here you go. You should find them cheaper. I loved the bag I got and did feel it was secure.

http://www.pacsafe.com/www/index.php

I bought the PacSafe 200 bag and loved it, but it was a bit heavy after a few hours (DH ended up carrying it most of the time ). This year, I'll probably pick up a smaller bag and, maybe, a neck or waist pouch of some sort. I definitely don't want anything in my pockets, so I don't even have to think about it. Last year, a pleasant young woman struck up a conversation outside McDonald's on Las Ramblas, saying she had been to the States not long before and telling me about her experience. Of course, the thought crossed my mind that her motives may not be pure, but since I had nothing to "pick", I could just relax and enjoy a nice moment :). I also leave the good jewelry behind and wear an inexpensive Timex, simple earrings, and only my wedding band.

We had a huge hailstorm early yesterday - 70 mph winds, mostly golf-ball size hail but some up to 3 inches in diameter. We must get new gutters, new roof, and possibly new fence. About half a mile away, residents lost several windows on each home. My nextdoor neighbor lost a window, and another a few houses down, but not like the other neighborhood. It hit us all of a sudden, and was unlike anything ANY of us had ever experienced before. It really sounded like a team of jackhammers got on the roof and were pounding away at the roof and windows. Curt and I could barely hear each other. Every home in our development must get a new roof. :(

Wow! My DM in TN also had storms roll through and lost power, but no damage. DD in Austin had no hail at all. It's amazing how the weather is so different between Austin and Dallas; you guys definitely have it worse !

Our hotel was near Parc de Cuitadella last summer too and we walked down to see the Arc de Triumphe too. Gaudi's Cascada fountain in the Parc was absolutely gorgeous too and not to be missed. The fountain was absolutely breaktaking, I couldn't believe how gorgeous it was and just stood there for about 10 mins mesmerised :cloud9:
Thanks for this info; it sounds wonderful!

I'm with you! :thumbsup2 Mario & Sonic were so much fun...also enjoyed playing Kingdom Hearts. ;)

I remember when DD was young and the neighbors introduced her to Atari. Seems like she's had every game system since, but I'm sure she missed one or two. I loved Sonic myself, and I think I played her Gameboy as much as she did. :goodvibes Funny thing, she never really thought of herself as a gamer but ended up working for a major online game co., which she loves. Who knew?...but a dr. or pharmacist would have been nice (we're not getting any younger! :sad2:)

Congratulations to your daughter on her job. :woohoo::woohoo:

Our middle son just got a job as well. He learned to be a radiology tech in the Army and has been looking for a job in the field for a year and a half. Even though it is a temporary job and part-time, his foot is in the door and we are SO thankful. :yay::yay:

Congratulations to your son on getting a job too :woohoo::woohoo:

Sounds as though you are having a great time Lynne .... enjoy the rest of your trip :goodvibes

:thumbsup2 yes it's great exercise, and it's funny but I find it easlier on my knees than running on the treadmill so well done to you:thumbsup2 I spin four times a week , but I'm a large lady who likes her food :rotfl2::rotfl2: so needs must !!

:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: Isn't that just the way.... my life's default position is "on a diet". But at least you will have had a good reason for that diet, you are going to have a lot of fun:)

Margaret, I don't run on the treadmill.... I wish :lmao: I just do a really brisk powerwalk. I used to do it round deck 4, but stopping to talk to people all the time meant it took me hours to do the 12 circuits :rotfl2: I use the treadmill now as the time passes so quickly watching a disney film on the tv screen on the treadmill :)

THANKS. I get my nails done at home and its sounds great. :)

What's your favourite treatment Sandy?

Hi Dawn :welcome: aboard! Where in Scotland are you from? We are Mary and DH Stevie. Sarah (Binkytell) and her family are from my neck of the woods in the West of Scotland, but we all now live in the North due to DH's location here when he served in the RAF. My niece is called Eilidh :) This is our 9th Disney cruise and we did last year's WBTA, it was soooo amazing, we just had to book to do this one again. We are leaving our DD (16) at home. Looking forward to chatting to you over the coming months :lmao:

Thanks Michelle. I'm fine just a bit shaken up by it all. Lee is ok other than a sore hand as he punched the guy who was struggling to get away.

Wow - what a lovely welcome! Thank you so much!

Birkner - thank you for the HUGE wealth of information in your post! I'd read some of it at the beginning of the thread but it was so sweet of you to condense it for me.

We live near Stirling in Scotland, so not too far from Binkytell! Maybe this summer we should meet up for lunch one weekend and psych each other up about the trip :) It's lovely so see so many people from the UK... I felt like we were the only ones on our first Carnival cruise (2008, Caribbean). Our last trip was an RCI 12 day last November, and there was about a dozen Scots who took over a corner of the pub each night. It was a fun bunch.

That RCI cruise was exhausting - the only babysitting option was something that had to be prebooked (and took place in the cabin) and I felt like by the time we got the kids settled, I was falling asleep at the shows or just wanting to get back and go to bed. I know we have to book the nursery in advance with Disney as well, but I'm just hoping for a more positive experience.

Eilidh and I spent lots of time on deck, with her in her little blow up pool, and that worked out pretty well. We are on late dining, but sometimes we fed Calum early and let him go to the club instead. He's the world's pickiest eater - may the Lord grant me patience on this issue! He could live on chicken nuggets and chips... Eilidh eats everything though.

I'd better run... have to chase the kids around this morning!

So nice to meet you all! I'll be checking in here regularly to try to get to know you all better. And I'll get signed up for some exchanges :)

Best wishes!
Dawn

I can't say what I really want to as I would be banned for using bad language:blush:

Glad you're both ok though.

Welcome! We are 3 grandmas in my cabin - the other two are MomE & LovingtheMouse (Linda, Eilean & Caroline)

In late dining, you can ask to have the kids fed first, and about 9 pm, the counselors from the kids clubs come and get them.

How old is your wee one?

Well done Lee...:thumbsup2

Thanks hun.

Thanks Linda, I don't think it's all sunk in yet....but yes I am very glad Lee detained him until the police got here and arrested him.

OMG Claire that is awful, I would have been petrified, no wonder you didn’t sleep a wink. How brave of Lee, what a star !! He should get the bravery award. Did the dogs hear him in the house and alert you? hope they throw the book at him

Glad you're both okay though !
