Well it was something like an episode of Cops here last night.........

We had someone break into our house whilst we were IN!!! :scared1: They were hiding out, I assume waiting for us to go to bed so he could rob us. I have never been so scared in all my life, Lee detained the *@/?>~*! whilst I called the police. The police were fab & arrived within five minutes and arrested him, we then had three hours worth of taking statements, photos etc.

Have to wait to hear from them today to see if they need to come and take finger prints etc......

Who needs sleep, eh? We gto to bed after 2am and I didn't sleep a wink after all that!!!

wow thats terrible, hope you are both recovering from the shock today,

oh well done you, i dont know how people manage to spin i tried once and:scared1: it was the hardest exercise ive ever done, never went back:rotfl:

i did one TASTER spin class one time, not even a full spin class, and i pretty much fell off the bike afterwards. it killed me. never done it since!

Our middle son just got a job as well. He learned to be a radiology tech in the Army and has been looking for a job in the field for a year and a half. Even though it is a temporary job and part-time, his foot is in the door and we are SO thankful. :yay::yay:

congratulations to your son!! i'm guessing that its a pretty hard sector to get in to, so despite it only being part time and temp, its a step in the right direction!

I see Tod & Copper and Binkytell are also from Scotland - anyone else from here? I'm Canadian as well, and I saw lots of maple leaf flags about on here :)

i'm from essex but DH is from glasgow, we're up there at least a few times a year :)

Tomorrow is the Getty Museum, Friday afternoon - Sunday is Catalina Island, and then I'm off to Phoenix to meet my DB and SIL for another week of vacation

sounds like a busy but pretty amazing week! enjoy, and we cant wait to see loads of photos!

I love all the things you are doing. My favorite Sushi place in that area is Sushi Roku in Santa Monica on Ocean.

mmm, sushi! only problem is that the closest sushi place to us is yo sushi, which is pretty damn expensive :(

Well it was something like an episode of Cops here last night.........

We had someone break into our house whilst we were IN!!! :

that sounds really scary, hope you're both ok, and that justice prevails in the end

Lee is ok other than a sore hand as he punched the guy who was struggling to get away.
:worship::worship::worship: to lee!! well done! (i know you shouldnt condone violence, but if someone breaks into your house, i personally think they left their human rights at the door and should get whatevers coming to them)

So nice to meet you all! I'll be checking in here regularly to try to get to know you all better. And I'll get signed up for some exchanges :)

Best wishes!
Dawn

welcome to the thread dawn!!! looking forward to getting to know all our newbies over the next few months :)

Karentan, if you are ever near Falkirk, check out Sumo Noodle Bar. Great sushi and very reasonable! Blows Yo Sushi out of the water!

We used to live in Vancouver, where it's easier to buy sushi than get a sandwich. It drove me crazy to move to a place where I couldn't get it, but finally we've got somewhere close by. Not that the food in Scotland isn't good, but I missed me some sushi! :lovestruc

Is there any sushi on the Magic?

they do a sushi section on one of the lunch buffets in topsiders. i dont think its every day though so keep and eye out for it.
thanks for the recommendation, its really hard to get good sushi round here that doesnt bankrupt you in the progress.

Welcome! We are 3 grandmas in my cabin - the other two are MomE & LovingtheMouse (Linda, Eilean & Caroline)

In late dining, you can ask to have the kids fed first, and about 9 pm, the counselors from the kids clubs come and get them.

How old is your wee one?

Thank you!

Our son will be 6, and our daughter will be 2 (2 years and 4 months). She'll be with us for most dinners for the whole time, but if we could feed Calum early have him collected at the dining room would be great!

I'm going to try to get her potty-trained this month on the off chance the camp staff might consider let her in despite the age. From what I've read here, sometimes they make age exceptions if the child is potty trained. I will be booking babysitting at the nursery as soon as I'm able, but she won't be too happy being separated from her brother (who dotes on her). I'm just hoping for a good experience, plus the chance to take a breather once and a while!

Crikey Claire that is apalling .. you must have been so scared. And Lee must be so brave - the %$*@: could have had a weapon or something :scared1:
Why are there so many low-lives in the world who think they have the rights to enter your property :mad::mad::mad: Hopefully they will throw the book at him !!

Hi Dawn. We are Marilyn and John from North Yorkshire. Seems like there is a Scottish invasion onboard this time!!!!

On the plus side .... more men in kilts !!!!

(i know you shouldnt condone violence, but if someone breaks into your house, i personally think they left their human rights at the door and should get whatevers coming to them)

Most definitely :thumbsup2:thumbsup2

we also doing late dining, and dd beth will be eating and running to club im guessing too :thumbsup2

OMG Claire that is awful, I would have been petrified, no wonder you didn’t sleep a wink. How brave of Lee, what a star !! He should get the bravery award. Did the dogs hear him in the house and alert you? hope they throw the book at him

Glad you're both okay though !

Well I was in the lounge with the dogs watching tv whilst Lee was doing a bit of painting in the Kitchen, he had the radio on listening to the football. Lee heard a bang but just thought it was one of the dogs charging around with a toy and carried on painting. We obviously now know that was him kicking our back door in and hiding in our lean-to which connects to the kitchen....he must have seen Lee in the kitchen at this point and hid in the lean-to until we found him about 30 mins later....the one & only time I will ever be grateful that Lee spilt some paint as he had to go in the lean-to to get an old cloth to clear it up which is when he found him!

What kept me awake all night is the fact that if Lee hadn't found him he could have got into the house through our dog flap and then who knows what could have happened......

that sounds really scary, hope you're both ok, and that justice prevails in the end

I totally agree. ::yes::

He certainly got a little of what he deserved last night. ;)

Thank you all, we are both fine.

Lee is at home with me today as i'm a bit jumpy and we need to wait for the CID to come out and take fingerprints on the door etc.

OMG,Claire!!! That's horrible - I would have been terrified! And well done, Lee, for "detaining" the jerk. I'm so glad you're both okay. I think I'd be sleeping with the lights on for a while after that. :scared1:

 Well I did insist on having the dogs in the bedroom with us last night but I barely slept anyway.....not that my two stupid boxers were much help last night anyway. :rotfl2:

Wow! My DM in TN also had storms roll through and lost power, but no damage. DD in Austin had no hail at all. It's amazing how the weather is so different between Austin and Dallas; you guys definitely have it worse !
Neighbors five minutes north were not touched, but neighbors a half-mile east had damage so bad they have had to move out into hotels and apartments during repairs. One church friend told me last night her damage is at $75,000 on her home. We are just thankful we had no broken windows, injuries, major holes in roof, and that our insurance deductible is just 1% (versus 2% our nextdoor neighbors have). A $10,000 deductible one person has that we know of would have just cancelled this trip!

I'm very glad you guys are safe! And hopefully the law there is much stronger than here. It seems people get off with a slap on the hand waaaaaay too often

Thank you!

Are you guys doing early or late dining? Late dining has the dine-and-play option for those 3 and over. Our 5 year old will probably be participating in that.

OMG !!!! That is horrible. So glad you are both OK. I can only imagine how scary that was. My sister came home from the post office one day and found comeone rifling through her bedroom. She was terrified also. Glad you found them before you went to bed.

Sorry I have been gone from the boards for awhile my mom was in town. I decided to give the internet up while she was here.

OMG that's awful!! Good job to Lee, and i'm glad everyone is ok!! I had someone break into my apartment while I was in college, while I was sleeping. Luckily, I had my bedroom door locked so when he went to come in (I thought he was the maintenance guy) and I got out of bed to open the door he ran away. It took FOREVER for all of the fingerprints and the police...and then the kid ended up getting off for some crazy reason, even though his fingerprint was INSIDE the windowsill in the bedroom next to mine and we never invited him in!! Love the legal system here, the kid was 15 at the time, probably on his way to being a career criminal by now!!

I think i'm going to do the Big Bus Tour in London, the Red route. Does anyone have any experience with them? I've read that their guides are more entertaining than the Original Tour. I should also have time for lunch, anyone have any suggestions? My first time to London (or Europe for that matter).

I'm also super excited about the prospect of wine and cheese for breakfast in Barcelona...I found a restaurant (can't remember the name) that's not too far from my hotel that serves this...I've obviously been living on the wrong continent my entire life!!! :rotfl:

 Well I did insist on having the dogs in the bedroom with us last night but I barely slept anyway.....not that my two stupid boxers were much help last night anyway. :rotfl2:

I know what you mean....boxers are just pussycats on steroids! :rotfl2::rotfl2: They are just such sweet dogs but they look vicious! So much for looks! :lmao::lmao:

Oh Claire I just feel sick thinking about it. Everything happens for a reason, it was fate that Lee spilled that paint, he was supposed to find that @*&%$"! in the lean-to apprehend him. Can't believe how brave he was :worship: Don't try to think about what could have happened :sad2:

Big big hugs to you both from us :grouphug::grouphug: give those slobbery "supposed" guard dogs a tickle from us, they will be wondering what the fuss will be about when the CID turn up

Wow - what a lovely welcome! Thank you so much!

Birkner - thank you for the HUGE wealth of information in your post! I'd read some of it at the beginning of the thread but it was so sweet of you to condense it for me.

We live near Stirling in Scotland, so not too far from Binkytell! Maybe this summer we should meet up for lunch one weekend and psych each other up about the trip :) It's lovely so see so many people from the UK... I felt like we were the only ones on our first Carnival cruise (2008, Caribbean). Our last trip was an RCI 12 day last November, and there was about a dozen Scots who took over a corner of the pub each night. It was a fun bunch.

So nice to meet you all! I'll be checking in here regularly to try to get to know you all better. And I'll get signed up for some exchanges :)

Best wishes!
Dawn

i'm from essex but DH is from glasgow, we're up there at least a few times a year :)

welcome aboard again dawn, meeting up sounds like a great idea, looking
forward to it.

That sounds like a plan. We could easily come down and arrange something and visit family in Kilmarnock that weekend too and have a "mini-meet" somewhere handy for everyone.

I don't know the area so you might be able to think of a good venue which is handy from the M80/M8 :thumbsup2

CLAIRE==Thank goodness you guys are okay. Sending you lots of :grouphug::grouphug: I just can't imagine how scary:scared1: that must have been for you and Lee.

Dawn==WELCOME to the WBTA. I am Sandy and my hubby and I are celebrating 30th anniversary on the cruise. We did EBTA last year and enjoyed it so we are back for more adventures. We are from California.

Lynne==sounds like you are in your element of vacationing; ENJOY.:yay:
