Selfie Sticks?

I don't think they are banned from the parks themselves just during rides. I would assume people can still use them during parades and everywhere else...I haven't been to the parks to confirm, but from what I've read it just says rides.

Oh thanks for that. That is unfortunate in my opinion. They should be banned. So should smoking. And glowing, flashing things on dark rides!

Just want to add that I didn't see ONE selfie stick in the Parks on our trip last month. I saw them being sold in downtown disney though on a kiosk cart...

You know, I didn't see them on my trip in April either, even though they seemed to be all over the place when I went in December. Maybe the fad is already dying? That would be great.

In some Asian countries, selfie sticks are a huge problem. I'm glad to see that at least they're being banned on rides.

Worst thing ever, riding thunder mountain with two teenage girls in front of u with a selfie stick taking a video of themselves with the flash on the whole time so the camera could see them because it is at night. The whole ride the only thing we could see was the bright light of their flash on their phone. The wife and I were not pleased

That's when you start talking about embarrassing "old people" problems really loud. That way, they have a video of them screaming and people talking about corns, hemorrhoids, and that horrible rash you got from spending too much time in the Queen of Hearts bathroom. You'll soon discover how much fun it is to photo and video bomb.

I am not a big fan of them either but i can understand why people use them. My only issue with people using them is that they use them appropriately and safely. Its really no different then a person with a video camera going all the time, if your not paying attention you can be a hazard to those around you and yourself.

Really though calling someone narcissistic for using one is painting with a very wide brush and quite narrow minded.

Why didn't you tell those two self entitled teen twits to put it away? Believe me, I would have. Then I would have asked if I may ride again because of the obnoxious and annoying people in front of me having put a major damper on my BTMRR experience!

BTMRR actually has a "no selfie sticks" sign several times in the queue. I saw that today going up the stairs to the loading area and thought "sweeeeet!" I thought about taking a pic of it but didn't.

I also heard CMs on Indy and on Radiator Springs tell guests to pack their selfie sticks away otherwise they couldn't ride.

They don't bother me at all, although on certain rides I understand why they should be banned.
I've seen it happen out here in Australia on a roller-coaster. Selfie stick hitting the rail sending their gopro flying into a child on the ride.

I will be using my gopro a lot on our June trip, if on ride I would be using a chest or head mount, keeps both my hands free.

Walking around I will be using a feiyu g4 gimbal, for nice smooth video footage.

Nice small handle, but at 500aud, there's no way I would be hanging it out of rides, plus it doesn't extend anyway.

Some common sense and an awareness of others is all that's needed with selfie sticks.
:)

For the record, I don't want to be in your video. I understand that walking around in the park I will be in the background of some photos and people may shoot short video clips. But 14 hours of footage at 30 fps which could become hundreds of stills of strangers who pass you for just a few seconds is more than you should have a right to take.

BIG BROTHER IS WATCHING YOU.

I'm sure people don't go to the park with the aim of filming you.
I think I have the right to film and take as many photos as I like for family memories, seeing as it is a long journey for us overseas all the while travelling with my ill 5 yr old daughter.
Many others would be in the same situation.
And it will be 60fps to 120fps, so much smoother:duck:

I hate when they are used to video the parades, fireworks and shows, the light takes away form the people around you being able to enjoy the show.

I currently purchased a selfie stick, I have 3 small kids and I was looking at a couple pictures of the last couple of years and noticed that more than 80% of the time I wasn't in the picture because I am behind the camera. I was hoping the selfie stick would help with that. I didn't know until after I purchased it that it offended people so much. I don't use it on rides, I don't really want videos/pics on rides or during parades, but if the setting is right I would like the option to bring it out and get a quick photo with all of us in it.

I have read that you can ask people to take a picture of you, but some of us are shy. The idea of having to ask to ask strangers to take pictures of you all day gives me anxiety. Plus you dont know about the quality of the photo....what if they are in a hurry and the photo is blurry, you don't want to keep asking.

I have an SLR which is big and cumbersome sometimes, and annoying to lug around. A selfie stick is much more convinient, and I can upload my photos directly to my computer and delete them from my phone to save space, instead of dealing with SD cards. Plus this experience left me feeling terribly guilty a few months ago. We were at the Freeze The Night party and the kids were doing the stacking of the foam ice blocks. I was carrying my 19 month old and he kept pushing the buttons on the camera so I shifted onto my shoulder so it rested by my arm. I put my son down and watched for a minute or two and didn't think about the camera again until a small boy came runny by really fast and bumped right into me and hit his face right on my camera lens. My camera isn't one of those really huge ones, its a normal SLR with a stock lens, but still I knew that must have hurt. All I could do was apologize profusely while his mother examined him in front of me while giving me a total deathglare. I still feel bad about it now.

My camera and lens cost a lot more than that. And I hand it over to strangers in the park quite often. Nobody has run off with it yet.
That's because you've never handed it to me...
