Season 7 of 'The Next Food Network Star' stars tonight at 9pm!

I don't watch Barefoot Contessa. How long ago did she do that? Is it possible this episode of NFNS was taped before that happened, and there just wasn't any way to redo the camera challenge?

Am I the only one who was shocked to see the Food Network showcasing Garten on the NFNS after the way she callously dissed the make a wish child who wanted to meet her? I can see her maybe not being fired for being such a jerk, but I was really disappointed to see the Food Network showcase her. Have they no shame at all?

She can't say yes to everyone and its really unfair for the general public to assume she can.

"Ina receives approximately 100 requests a month to support charitable causes that deeply affect peoples' lives," the statement continued. "She contributes both personally and financially on a regular basis to numerous causes, including to Make-A-Wish Foundation. Sadly, it's of course not possible to do them all. Throughout her life, Ina has contributed generously to all kinds of important efforts and she will continue to do so."

It happened some time last year. She had a conflict & couldn't do it. I'm sure she wasn't the first to turn someone down, and I'm sure she won't be the last. But the family of the child had a blog, and it got into the media. She tried to reschedule. IMO, there was no reason for her to be fired, and certainly no reason for the Food Network to not use her for Food Network Star.

I totally agree.

Let's get back to our discussion of FNS......

So did anyone else think that Vic's dish on RR looked terrible? Why ruin a nice dish of lasagna by rolling it up & frying it? :scared1:

Maybe thats what they do in Vegas? :rotfl:

I hope Whitney is next.

I find Whitney boring, so I wouldn't mind if she was next. But as much as I like the remaining contestants, I'm still not sure I'd watch any of them.

It actually reminded me of a dish that I had a few years ago at Planet Hollywood in Downtown Disney. LOL "Fried lasagna" or something like that, and surprisingly it tasted really good. But I don't think it was rolled up in a tortilla first. lol

Edited to add: Ok, just checked AllEars and apparently it's still on the menu! Here's the description:

L.A. Lasagna - A California twist to a classic lasagna! Fresh pasta tubes filled with ricotta cheese and bolognese meat sauce fried to a golden brown with garlic cream and tomato basil sauces $17.99

Me either. I am really disappointed in this year's group of contestants.

I told you, Missy - you'll watch them and you'll like them :lmao:

I can't see watching Whitney. She's not outstanding in any way. There are already a half dozen of her on FN. I wouldn't cook Mexican, but I would watch an episode or two of Suzie's show. Ditto for Mary Beth, although I still don't know what her culinary POV is.

But Vic or Jeff? I find them both entertaining and would watch a full season of either show. Jeff has an actual concept, though, and so a better chance of winning. No, that's not a spoiler, it's just my opinion!

That's pretty funny. You know, I'd probably think about ordering that. Or at least I would have before I saw Vic's mess.

That's right, you did! :rotfl:

I think you are spot on in your analysis. I really like Mary Beth, but I don't know what her show would be. And you're right, there are tons of Whitneys & Suzies out there. The FN does have a great Mexican cooking show right now & they had another one a few years ago. So Suzie isn't unique. The guys are a bit more unique, but I have a feeling they think Vic could be another Guy. And I'm sorry, but there is only one Guy. Jeff does have some possibilites. But that cupcake!!

I agree, and it would be new to the FN. Every other contestant's show would be like any other FN show, they don't have anything that makes them stand out IMHO.

I know he is not a baker;), but he admits it & does not let things like defeat him before he evens starts. He does have a good concept for his show. At this point I am liking him best

Oh, another thing. I do love Vic, and next time I'm in Las Vegas I'll eat at his restaurant - but I don't like his "Mama's Boy" concept. Everybody cooks Italian. Ask Giada. I want Vegas food from Vic Vegas.

At least they don't take pasta & wrap it in a tortilla! Only the pasta tubes (not lasagna noodles!) are fried. But then, some people will fry anything - do you know that one of the best sellers at a state fair last year was fried butter???? :scared1:

Dh and I were talking about this. I really don't even like Guys Big Bite show, but I love Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives, so if Vic were to do a show on Vegas or another contestant would find a nitch I would watch then, but I don't see me watching any of their cooking shows.

Well, I don't remember what Melissa intended her show to be about, but I'm 100% certain it wasn't $10 Dinners!

GO WHITNEY!!!!!!
I'm so glad she did so well!! I love her!

I would happily watch any of the remaining contestants, with the possible exception of Susie. She drives me nuts and seems so fake. But I LOVE Mexican food, so it might be okay.

Agreed.

I remember my reaction when they announced what her show was going to be and I was like, "What?! Where did THAT come from??" And then last year, NOTHING changed with Aarti's show, including the name! Kinda weird.

Did anyone preorder the book? I can't WAIT to get my copy... and they keep saying the winner will have a book tour and I'm soooo hoping it shows up here!
