'Scuse me whilest I stand on a (small) Disney Soapbox for jest a minute...

Possibly unpopular post ahead. You've been warned...

I've been wanting to make this one for going on 12-15 years now. No pun intended in the subject line... or is there?

Can somebody please explain to me that while our annual dues skyrocket every year, here I sit in Kidani this week in a savannah studio, where we are relegated 1 singular bar of H20 Disney branded soap to share between the shower and the sink, which is really only a half bar by any normal person's standards to begin with; that said bar sells for upwards of $7 in the gift shop just down the hall? It's worth about $0.50 at best.

The shampoo and conditioner? Same thing. Disney branded H2O (Arguably good stuff. I'll give you that.) under lock and key and security screws under penalty of banishment from property should you dare pump either one more than twice. They are probably Bluetooth linked to the front desk.

And yet... AND YET... paper products in the room go to the cheapest and lowest single-ply, non-perforated bidder. Anybody trying to get into the paper business? This is where you come. You can get off the ground here. Just import the cheapest paper towels, tissues, and TOILET PAPER you can buy from whatever third world country you can get it from the cheapest. Double the price in US dollars, and submit your bid. You'll be set for life. Just don't ever come sit on a toilet here.

I'm actually a simple soul. I don't ask for much, but a little acknowledgement that we aren't exactly the lowest forms of life to spend the night on Disney property would be a really nice thing to do. Especially since we pay for it anyway. I shouldn't have to bring my own tissue and toilet paper from home when I come here, and yet I can't tell you how many times I've done just that or left property and picked it up at Target on 192.

I wouldn't put this crap in my mother-in-law's room when she comes to visit, and I don't like her very much at all (Just kidding but you get the emphasis here.). Deluxe my hind parts (See what I did there?). The paper products should be an outright EMBARRASSMENT to DVC. Up your game, Disney... or up your...

Now wash your hands! And don't forget to put the bar of soap back in the shower.

So ready for the good news? Since our last trip around Thanksgiving, the TP quality at the DVC resort has mildly improved. Still sandpaper-y but not as thin that you can see through it. Improvement by small increments, right? HA-HA

We have been members for almost 27 years and there has been a very disappointing decline in amenities. I am so grossed out by the communal used soap dispensers. They were disgusting before covid and now worse. We visited the world a lot in 2019 and found there was no consistency from one resort to another. SSR being the worst until a recent stay at Hilton Head. I went to the desk and asked for bar soap which they were nice about. Then I went to the desk again to ask for 2 mugs which they gave me a hard time about. Honestly for the dues I pay there they could do better than 2 smelly paper coffee cups I was apparently supposed to use for 4 days. The current paper plates/bowls are gross also. They have a very bad odor. I was prepared for the unusable plates though and had stopped at Costco on our way and bought a set of plates and bowls. In 2019 I had to go to Walmart and buy mugs and bowls to use at SSR. Having decent acceptable products in the rooms is not asking a lot. And the new laundry detergent ins worthless. It isn't even usable to rinse bathing suits.

Not at OKW. We were at BCV in Oct, Kidani in Nov and OKW in Dec. All times it was the same stuff.

Listen, take a piece of toilet paper and hold it up to a lit match and blow through it. If you can blow the match out through the TP, it's not safe to use, period.....
I thought that was the rule for masks? Are you telling me I can't fashion a mask out of the toilet paper? Oh man, that's gonna change ALL of my plans for my next trip:oops:

I will not purchase paper products to bring along but will request real mugs, glasses etc. Not playing into that game DVC is trying to force. So far our studios have had both paper cups and real mugs and glasses although it's now been almost a year since the last visit. At that point we also hadn't had the big soap dispensers anywhere. Not a fan of that decision either.

KAT4 I think it depends on where you are. We stayed in Beach Club and had real plates in the studio. BWV and GF must have been ok because I do not remember an issue there plus at GF we got a lot of soap. I was very upset that they did not want to give me mugs at HH. I argued with the guy and finally said I could not make tea in that paper not microwave safe cup so he said he would try to get me mugs. Shameful. The dispensers had a little plastic hood over them with a sticker that said clean.. What a joke. The only way that would be true would be if they sanitized the pumps inside and out and replaced the bottles with new product in between guests.

We actually had real plates in our Jambo studio the last time we were there. IMO there should be a standard at all DVC resorts which at a minimum is what they did for the previous decade or so with real mugs and glasses ever since Cupgate in 2009 or so.

Jambo is probably my favorite and one of the best run locations. We used to like going to SSR when we drove because of the parking and being close to Disney Springs. We have had a few housekeeping issues there over the years involving housekeeping - once they propped our door open with that security latch and left. We got back late at night and found out door (Congress Park) had been left open for hours. Our most recent stay there will probably be our last for a long time. Having to buy my own mugs and bowls, a room where all cell service was blocked by something, an unpleasant check-in person, and unbelievable housekeeping it was 8 uncomfortable days. Despite the note that said they would pick up trash every day - no one did. On our full cleaning day the linens were outside our door early so husband and I went to the pool for the day. Came back late afternoon and room was not done. Shortly after we entered our room I heard a noise in the hall. Looked out and linens were gone. Guest services took care of it and got our room cleaned but really,

That happened to us once at OKW, but I honestly can't blame housekeeping for sure, it may have been one of our group that left it open, as were going back and forth between two studios. Nothing was missing, and it wasn't a scheduled cleaning day...so probably it was one of us.

You never use soap in public restrooms?

discovered same thing last stay there a few years ago, assume housekeeping just forgot but found it rather unsettling. Surprised that nothing was lifted from the room

Us too last year. I called and they had security come up. They apologized. Nothing was missing. They said they know exactly who is in and out of the room so they would address it.
I assume because they know who was the last person to enter.

Your post made me chuckle on a wet and cold Saturday morning, but next time you are ‘on the throne’ google ‘third world’. It is an outdated ( shows your age) and offensive phrase. The countries to which you refer, are ‘developing’ (maybe because of all the loo paper they are selling to WDW).... said tongue in cheek.
Enter the PC police with their “woke” speak. 🙄

Good grief, you waited over a month to post that uninspired response. 😂
Nope. Only visit the forum occasionally.

Your statement about “developing” countries shows an incredible disconnect with reality. The majority of these countries have received billions in aid from foreign governments and NGOs over the last two to three decades. The only thing that has been “developed” by this process has been the coffers of the dictatorial regimes in power as they redirect the funds and allow donated goods to be sold on the black market rather than be used to actually help those in need. All the while there is no accountability as we send even more cash every time a new “stimulus” package or some other pork laden bill is passed. As long as this is allowed to continue, especially with the blind ignorance of the current PC culture, these countries can never “develop” and will remain in a third world status. Changing the language/terminology does nothing but perpetuate the situation by covering it in pretty words. Just like the “woke” mentality.

My sense of humour clearly went over your head. I apologise if you feel offended. The phrase that you refer to has been deemed, by the majority, offensive in the U.K. for many years. Perhaps we have a duty to be more ‘aware’ because of acts done in the name of the Empire and/or the importance of the Commonwealth to the U.K. today.
