Sorry, I just found the juxtaposition of these two on your list absolutely hysterical...

Seriously, do you mean that extreme feminists have made education and employment an expected standard of behavior that you find unpleasant? How does that differ from what you have planned for your life? Most women I know would find a good education and a great job to be good things.
I think she meant, and correct me if I am putting the wrongs words in your mouth, is that if I chose to not go to school and get a career I am somehow looked down on. Like instead of being stockbroker I want to be a housewife, that suddenly drops my IQ, self-respect, and makes me borring.

I am against gay marriage because I am Christian and it is not something I agree with. Couples (heterosexual) who chose not to have kids do not concern me. They are allowed to make that choice. I just do not agree with gay marriage. Why is it okay for people to agree with gay marriage, but I cannot disagree? I have been around too many gay people who flaunt their sexuality, but I have not have the same experiences with straight people.

I was just intriqued by your comment that "marriage is an institution in which to start a family", thats all. Disagree all you want, I was just interested in your position on straight people who don't wish to start a family, or gay couples who want to adopt children. :confused3

Can I join you in that :rotfl2: :rotfl2: ?

I'm also curious to know if she considers having to get a good education and good job is a good thing or bad thing.

Just so ya'll know, I am a college graduate, president of the Criminal Justice Honor Society at my University and I excelled in school making it onto the Presdient's list every semester. I just got my job. I have not taken a break since high school.

To answer the question, I did not say having an education and job is a bad thing. I am saying that I am EXPECTED to have it because of the women's libbers. Homemakers and stay-at-home moms seemed to be looked down upon now that "woman have the opportunity" to go to school. It was expected of me to go to school and get a job. It is no longer "acceptable" to stay home and raise kids. I think that is a HUGE job and I admire those women.

Thats exactly what I meant. I do not know if you agree, but I am glad you understood what I said. Maybe I put it in confusing words.

Well sweetheart, you can thank "women's libbers" for being able to vote for Shrub in those last two elections.

Oh I do agree having been a SAHM myself, and now I work out of the home and miss it dearly! I aspire to be a WAHM, and am pursuing that now :flower:

I can't stand when people ask if all 6 of my kids are all mine - than when I say yes they make birth control comments

I can't stand Hillary Clinton. Her voice even drives me insane. Her voice = nails on a chalk board.

I can't stand when parents don't give a darn or even know what their kids are doing/writing online or in real life.

I'm a very proud conservative - voted for George W. Bush and would do so again.

It'll just be easier for me to copy and paste what Beattyfamily said - we're on the same page with virtually everything:
It bothers me that the word Christmas, or Merry Christmas, is being wiped out of our vocabulary. Or that some are trying to take the word God out of everything.

I can’t stand the “Separation of Church and State” excuse for taking God/Christmas out of everything.
I believe in one God.
I think our President is GREAT.

I can’t stand how PC our country has become; it’s ridiculous!

I can’t stand that abortion is legal. It’s murdering of innocent humans who can’t defend themselves. It’s a fetus if you don’t want it and a baby if you do, unbelievable.
It bothers me that I cannot watch TV with my girls without worrying about the sexual content of the commercials and daytimes shows; that they have people having sex without marriage or birth control all the time.
It stinks that I also have to screen what they listen to on the radio; “Holaback Girl” for example; didn’t even know what it meant till I read the thread about it!
I don’t think gay marriage should be legal.
I can’t stand being attacked for my beliefs and opinions.

I HATE when people kill in the name of God.

I can't stand when parents don't teach their kids manners.

I can’t stand the clothing styles right now for girls; too trashy
I can’t stand most rap music except maybe Will Smith!
I can’t stand when celebrities voice their political beliefs publicly. Its bugs me and it sways my feelings about them. (Dixie Chicks), BUT I’m so happy their voicing their policitical beliefs this past year didn’t work!!!
I think smoking should be banned in all restaurants in America (and all public, enclosed places).
I think welfare needs a MAJOR overhaul!!!!!
I think sexual offenders should stay in jail forever; no second chances

I can’t stand all the lawsuits that go on in our country. Take some accountability for your actions. Accidents do happen. It’s not Dunkin Donuts fault you spilt your coffee on yourself; it’s not the doctor and nurses fault your DH fainted and hit his head during your epidural, and sadly died.
I can’t stand when people can’t get their opinion/point across without being cruel, nasty or down right mean to those who have a different opinion.
I love the Internet! and the DIS!

I am well aware of that. I just think they can sometimes go too far just wanting to be equal for the sake of being equal. The man should be the head of the house. Thats what I think and I have no problem with that. I do not think girls should play football or anything like that. Women have their jobs and men have theirs. If men were the only ones who were able to vote, thats fine. But, since I can vote, I did.

What does the Hollaback Girl song mean?

Did you say own? Thanks to some uppity women who wanted equality, you now can own property.

Thank you for clarifying. I wouldn't think an education and a career as a stay-at-home mom were mutually exclusive either, but if you do, that's certainly your right!!!

OH MY GOSH! Get off it!!!!!! I have a feeling you are going to follow me around and tear apart my threads now. WOW, thanks women libbers so I can sell cookies out of my own house. I guess I should thank them for allowing me to have clothing, a house, be able to speak and make eye contact with people.

I think all women who think that women's lib has gone to far should voluntarily give up all the rights they have thanks to women's activists. Don't vote, don't own property, allow your husband to beat you, don't get an education, don't control how many kids you have..

Why not live the values you profess to have?

No problem. I am glad you asked so I could explain it. I realize it may have been confusing.

The man should be the head of the house.

If my dh were the head of the house, my son would be dead. He stated to me as I was taking ds (then three) to the Dr.'s for the 6th time in a week, "You're just overreacting---again. Blah, blah, blah...He'll be fine."

Turns out ds had bacterial meningitis, was immidiately admitted to the hospital in the ICU, was unconcious for three days and given a 15% chance for survival. Luckily *I* took charge, and today have a happy, healthy 10 year old. Just because I lack a Y chromosome, doesn't mean I'm unable to assess a situation and act upon it accordingly and appropriately. In fact, I'm fortunate I did. My dh was exercising very poor judgement, and I'm confident God wanted me to override him on that call. ;)

I am not at all criticizing you for your opinion, Miranda, not at all. If we're talking personal experiences, I guess this is mine. And it was one that made a very lasting impression.

Don't worry I won't be posting on any "Brittney Spears is awesome" threads.

It continues to floor me that the word "feminist" or "women's libbers" is used as a barb, that women try to distance themselves from it. I guess that like any ideology, it' had its share of kooks. But it really BUGS me when younger women take the rights our foremothers achieved for us for granted or dismiss them as something undesireable.

I believe women have made tremendous strides since the 1970's. The idea of women going to college and/or working is taken for granted. There are no more "Help Wanted: Female" ads in the papers. A college-educated woman has career options beyond the traditionally female ones of teacher, librarian, nurse or secretary.

Thank goodness most women - at least educated women - take for granted the idea that their husbands will treat them well. While spousal abuse still happens, it's now severely disapproved of, not laughed off as trivial or funny or what a woman must put up with. We don't hear of many wives thinking they are supremely lucky duckies just because their husbands provide for the family and don't beat them or drink heavily. Likewise, besides a very few wealthy and famous men, husbands don't consider it their "right" to have a mistress on the side, and women aren't told to close their eyes to husbands' adultery. Extramarital affairs are more disapproved of by both men and women than they were fifty years ago.

Women may still be stuck doing a good deal of the caregiving and housework and we do have a long way to go on this; but it's no longer taken for granted that women = uncomplaining caregivers and that HAS come a long way.

Of course, when 18 -35 year old women cannot get their birth control prescriptions filled by their "pro-life" pharmacists, are forced to get their husband's (or father's) permission for a tubal ligation, and cannot get abortions, even if they were raped, they won't be running down the word "women's libbers" anymore. Reproductive rights have been taken for granted by women under 40, but if we keep going in the direction we've been going the past 6 years, they are getting ready to realize that "feminist" is not such a dirty word after all.......
