San Angel Inn - Food's Bad

We ate here this past November and both the food & server were good. Before going I checked the reviews, and based on what I read, both my husband and I both chose the Mexican Combination plate, it was a sampling of a few items, I believe it was under Chefs Selections on the menu. We really liked it and wouldn't hesitate to go back.

I've never had enchiladas, tacos or fajitas at San Angel when we go for dinner as those are not the the focus of their menu. I like the Mole Poblano, Pollo a Las Rajas, Pescado a La Talla etc. Items I would not make at home. San Angel isn't the typical fajita, burritos, chimichanga etc. type of place you may find in your home town.

Yes, I've eaten at different Mex. restaurants that had some of the menu items you mentioned, but take away the names, and you have basically chicken and fish in seasoned sauces. I just don't enjoy how they are prepared, plus the usual accompaniments.

Saying their names in Spanish (on their menus) rather than English make them sound exotic which to us they aren't. Like I said we mostly stick to what we enjoy from the various menus that I'd rather make at home. We all have ethnic restaurants we enjoy, and that's fine with me, we just don't usually eat Mexican out.

My point was that if you want typical Mexican food you'd find in most MX restaurants around the country you wouldn't go to San Angel. They don't usually have the burritos, chimichangas, fajitas etc. Most MX restaurants in the USA, even some very good ones are Sonoran style. San Angel isn't Sonoran. They're very different and I agree, not for everyone. I live in AZ with some great Sonoran MX food but I also love what you'd find much further to the south.
