Samsung and Sprint announced Wednesday that the Galaxy SII (the top-selling Android handset on the market) will be released as a Boost Mobile prepaid phone.

For those who haven't kept-up with the prepaid world (and Boost Mobile in particular), their flagship plan is $55 a month for unlimited talk/text/data (all the cell phone taxes are built-into that price) -- the beauty of the plan that for every 6 months of on-time "Re-Boost" payments made, your monthly bill drops by $5 (eventually, you could see a $40 a month bill for "unlimited everything").

As Boost (like Virgin Mobile) is a part of Sprint, coverage should work in areas where Sprint owns/operates towers.

Definitely a good deal for the power user who doesn't like limits or being handcuffed to a 2-year contract...

I have the Galaxy SII, and I really like it, but one word to the wise -- keep the wi-fi turned off. With the wi-fi on, you'll get 8 hours of stand-by battery time; with it off, I can go two or three nights without charging. And DON'T buy the cute Disney cell phone covers on ebay that come from Hong Kong -- they don't really fit. I bought one, it came cracked so the sent a new one; second one was just a little too small and wouldn't stay on. This has been a public service announcement.
