Same Household.. not happy

I'm a bit unhappy about the fact that the AP discount is only good for members of the same household. I mean I own 600 points so I can bring my family to DVC but they don't live with me. I mean if I'm spending all of my points on "my family" I'd like to be able to get the discount for them. It doesn't seem quite right.

lehrsj, I agree. If someone is staying in your room, all discounts should apply.

The use of the phrase "doesn't seem quite right" implies a kind of entitlement. I'm not flaming you, but it's hard to read that a real, substantial perk like this is looked at as "not good enough".

It's a far sight better than we had a few short days ago!

Rather than be happy about a "perk", yep, this is not entitlement.

Its always easier to find something to complain about.

Do us all a favor and sell your DVC points.

I'm delighted that we are being given this "perk". Maybe it will incent others to buy into DVC and qualify for their own "perks".

Be happy for what you have. A few days ago you did not even have this option and now you complain about it. Some people are just never happy, that is unless they have something to gripe about.

I love being a DVC member and I haven't even had my first trip home yet - I am delighted at this new perk! I won't be able to use it for this trip (Dec 04), but I'm not complaining - I can use it for my renewal - more reasons to go to WDW!

I am indeed grateful for the new perk. I'm especially grateful that Disney allows us to pre-pay our vacations (DVC) at a substantial discount.

Same household sounds like a good qualifier to me. Besides, I don't expect my family to be able to ride on my DVC coat-tails. They can buy their own piece of the magic.

I look at it this way. I've been a FL resident for nearly 30 years. While we have enjoyed discounted passes and rooms for a while, I can not get them for any non FL resident family or friends I may bring with me. While it appears that I can enjoy a slightly better discount now combining the DVC discount, I still can not pass on the discounts to any non FL residents that travel with us. Therefore, Disney is being consistent in their perk policies IMHO.

Seriously??!! Please rethink this. We are being offered a substantial discount. They did not have to do this. Try to be thankful. It isn't hard to do.

This is the same thing I posted in another thread...

This is a discount for DVC owners and their immediate family's. This is not a discount for their extended family, guests, Friends or neighbors. Why should Disney allow your guest to get a discount on a ticket they could then use at any time for a year when you (the DVC owner) are not there? You can still use your UPH discount for other guests while their vacationing with you. Do you think those who rent out their points should be able to buy their "guests" a discounted annual pass? I don't think so...

I'm wondering how this will apply to a college age child. DS attends college in another town and his drivers license shows that address. However, he is immediate family, is VERY much still a dependent (I have the bills to prove it, and even has any critical mail sent to our home here because it is his most consistent address. (those of you with college kids know what I mean - dorm, then apartment, then house, then another apartment. etc).

I have another problem. My brother and I bought our points together in 1994. We, along with our spouses, vacation together every year. Both our names our on the deed, but all correspondence comes to my address. (i'm better with paperwork). So who gets the discount???

This just proves my point I've made on a couple of threads. And that is that there are many variables that don't fit nicely into the box DVC has made. I again predict we'll see a clarification prior to the actual implementation. Something to the effect that it applies to all in the household plus primary relatives.

Whoa, I can see why DVC is reluctant to offer anything to anyone. Sheesh! Give em an inch! I guess everybody deserves everything nowadays.

Although, I CAN see the fairness of limiting # of discounts based on points. Ie. 4 discounts per 150 points or something like that. I mean, wouldn't 150 points cover a 1BR for one year, which accomodates 4 people?

No matter what they decide, someone will be unhappy with it.

If his permanent residence is still your home why did he change his driver's license.

Even if everyone you consider family is not included in this discount, it is still better than what we got before.

I am thrilled and will not complain if everyone I know is not included.

In Texas if your drivers license does not reflect where you actually live they can issue a citiation. You are responsible to keep your drivers license updated.

Now you could always lie if you hadn't updated it, but that is a whole other set of problems.

Plus in Texas when you update your drivers license they also register you to vote. So if the son lives in a different district than his parents, he would need to vote in his district not in theirs.

There are many reasons for a college student to change their address to the college address. Voting, use of local services (library, parks, other recreational offerings that are for residents only), and as mentioned, some states have legal requirements.

If both your name and your brother's name is on the deed, you should each have a blue DVC member card with your name on it.

If you need to show your members card and a DL to get the AP, then both of your immediate families should be able to get the discount.
