Same Household.. not happy

I want a lollipop!!

Oh goody, now I want two!!

Oh goody now give me 5!!!

How come some people are never satisfied and always want more.

I'm happy to get the discount. All the relatives...............will have to pay the going rate. After all they are staying on my nickle. That alone is one heck of a discount!!!!!!!!

Rather than be happy about a "perk", yep, this is not entitlement.

Its always easier to find something to complain about.

I'm delighted that we are being given this "perk". Maybe it will incent others to buy into DVC and qualify for their own "perks".
I agree with everything but the one line. It is amazing how some can complain that the gift is not good enough for them.

I doubt we will use the perk very often, but I cannot complain about others getting this nice very worthwhile perk. Thank you DVC for being responsive to your membership.

First of all, let me say that I am very glad to be given any kind of discount on an AP (for that matter, on anything other than the UPH). It's the type of pass I see our family buying most often whether there is a discount or not, so although not everyone thinks this is the best solution, it's great for us.

Secondly, as some others have mentioned, if we take family, they buy their own passes. Since they don't have the ownership interest in DVC as we do, it is unlikely that they would be visiting WDW for more than a week, or again within a year. In that case, they can buy a PH pass. There are many types of discounts available on PH passes, so I wouldn't feel bad at all knowing that they were unable to get "my" AP discount.

If your extended family didn't purchase the membership, they should NOT be entitled to the perks. JMHO. We are VERY happy to have the AP discount...Don't screw it up!

I'm a bit unhappy about the fact that the AP discount is only good for members of the same household. I mean I own 600 points so I can bring my family to DVC but they don't live with me. I mean if I'm spending all of my points on "my family" I'd like to be able to get the discount for them. It doesn't seem quite right.

I purchased DVC for extended family vacations too. It is disappointing but not a total loss. At least you can get the discount for yourself and any discount is better than no discount at all. Hopefully in the future they will look at other potential options for guests such as a larger discount on UPH.

:D

For the love of God, people! All the woman said was that she was a bit unhappy. What's with all of the flames?

I agreed it would be nice for family members to get it.

but DVC I think considered everything - your immediate family is the rule - so most immediate family live together - okay not true - your parents as well as your brother and sister - can definitely live apart..

but I look at it this way - I get the benefit because I am a member - they don't go as many times as I do anyway. So it is probably not to their advantage to get one anyway.

Mother is much older 82 and my niece lives in a different state. My friends are not WDW freaks - so they only want to go every couple of years.

remember I think with you owning an annual pass they might be entitled to discount on the PH.

also the hotels discounts that AP have - will be very nice for my weekend stays.....

maybe to get the annual pass more of our families will join. In mind I have a cousin that could easily afford it - but they won't buy - this might be the incentive that is needed for them to buy, too....

My DH and I just bought in to DVC. We actually purchased the day that the revision came out regarding AP's. We didn't even know it until we got home and read over everything. We were thrilled! We tried to convince my parents to purchased, to no avail. I called my best friend in excitement and told her about our purchase. I told her about the AP discount, and her immediate reaction was "hey, can you get that for me?" Well, to be real honest, I don't want to share my perks with non members. We are the ones that have made this purchase and have committed to paying for it, why should some one else get the perks for it? JMHO!

I think this is the key thing. We waited TEN years to purchase DVC. Why should just anyone get the discount?

And additionally, I'm more than a little concerned that DVC will reconsider this at some point if people complain. It's an added perk - not something we have any right to expect.

I'm glad there's a limit. The last thing I would want to see is rented points being made available as a package deal that includes discounted AP's to people that aren't even members. Or discounted AP's showing up on ebay. As we know, there will always be people that will find a way to turn a profit on a perk like this. Just my opinion...got the flame retardant ready !!!

At first I thought that I might not like that I couldn't extend teh discount to family staying with us, but I have to admit in the long run it is great--they will see that being a member has privledges. In addition, I like that renter's cannot use this perk.

I'm not certain that the above correctly reflects the motivation and attitude of many posters; I know that it doesn't reflect mine - I added my sincere thanks to the "Thank You" thread.

I'm simply interested in how this benefit actually gets implemented and - like Occupancy - gets enforced. Look - no one is going to mind the fact that Aunt Brandine and Uncle Cletus don't qualify. However, I do confess to some slight dismay at the fact that a son or daughter no longer becomes eligible the minute they change their address (for whatever reason).

Holy cow.

We get an awesome benefit for us - the members and the people in our household - and there is complaining that it's not right?

I am very, very happy. I would not expect to be able to buy APs for anyone that I invite on a trip.

I for one am tickled pink about this discount. Personally, I did not buy into DVC to extend it too my entire family because there are waaay too many of them. I bought it so myself, my new husband to be...and my two sons can enjoy quality time together each year at Disney. This to me is quite a nice extra added bonus for us four.

Disney is still a business whether any of us would like to think about it. Ex: If BillyRayBob buys 100 premium annual passes for his entire family...Disney just lost $15,000 right off the bat. While $15,000 isn't anything to make Disney bat a lash at.....it would be if everyone were doing it with this discount. I can fully understand why Disney has limited this and there are stipulations.
Its a discount meant for the DVC owners..not the rest of their family that isn't.

I'm sorry the OP feels its unfair. I for one am just very happy we have any annual discount. I am so glad we waited and just joined last month.

life is good!
Esmerelda :teeth:

Got to admit it never crossed my mind to even consider an AP for family members I sometimes take... then they would want to come too often! (I don't currently buy thier tickets anyway!) I figure I am giving them free lodging, what more do they want?

The problems with Sons and Daughters is ALL of us are someones sons and/or daughters. Now I have not lived at home for 20 years, but I can see some people in my situation already trying to figure out how Mom can get them the discount.

We are so thankful for this discount and I am nervous that DVC will take away this perk if there are too many complaints. When I made a reservation this morning, I mentioned to the CM how grateful we were to get this discount. I could almost here him swell with pride as he answered, "We have been working so long to get this for our members."

regarding adding children to the contracts.

Seeing what friends are going thru with teens and young adult children, I would have to think long before I tie our finances together. As parents, we have a choice to assist our children through college, life etc. when you add them to contracts you no longer have that choice. That can be very scary and cost more than any benefit. They can book Spring Break trips on their own, rent points, make ressies for friends, etc.

They will be in the will, but as long as I can hobble around MK the contract will stay in our names.

Lehrsj,

There is a solution to your problem. If you own your 600 points in one block you can split it into four 150 point units with four different addresses. I own two 250 point units and one day plan to title them over to each of my two children. If they get impatient, they can buy an additional 150 points for themselves. Or, I can move in with them.

I'm extremely happy with the perk!!!! I don't think people that I brought with me would buy an annual pass anyway.

I look at it as an incentive for our daughter to never leave the house! Yeah ok, I'm going to have a small problem with empty nest syndrome. :teeth:

What do you consider, "family". I do not like to see the flamming going on here over this OP question. Is this a person that does not have custody of her children, or something along that lines? If it is, then the complaint may be a good one.
