Same Household.. not happy

First, I must confess to not having read all 4 pages of replies.

Second, I'd be embarrassed to complain about a perk. . I think the general idea is take it or leave it. . .

Third, I wouldn't even find myself able to post a complaint within the same text that described me as a person who owns 600 pts--geez, some people really don't know how good they've got it.

"I threw myself on the tracks. .. .but the train was delayed. . "

Get 'em (APs) if you want 'em and they work for you. Otherwise, sigh (or speak your mind to MS) and keep it to yourself!

According to the following definition as it appears on the DVC website, "immediate family" is all of those people listed, but then goes on to ALSO state that the discount is for those "immediate family members who reside in the same household. So for this purpose, it isn't ALL your immediate family--only those who reside in the DVCers household.

The announcement was just recently made and the pass isn't even available for purchase yet. We may find that it isn't even an issue. At this point, we don't know.

FAQs
Who is eligible to receive the discount?

BUt the REAL point is that you NEVER recieved a discount on tickets from Disney in the past. Now you are getting a discount on your tickets and anyone that has the same address as you. If your grown child is still dependent on you financially but has a different address, then you will have to pay the regular price that you have been paying all along. Why isn't that fair? I am at a total loss as to why people want more. We (DVC members) had NOTHING for years. They are giving us something. Something is always better then nothing. UGH!

Actually if you go back and read my previous comments, you are preaching to the choir.

I am thrilled with the discount, I am not married nor have any children so nothing you commented on affects me.

You might want to read the entire thread before making specific comments and taking quotes out of context of the entire thread.

Sammie,
Sorry about that. I did read the entire thread before posting and I know you are not complaining about the discount. I did quote you but I was trying to add to what you were saying. Re-reading it, it does sound like I am saying it directly to you. I use the word "you" and I swear it wasn't actually directed at YOU! I was directing it at the generic "you" that is complaining about getting a discount. Hope that makes sense. You did make it perfectly clear that you were happy about the discount. I should have worded things better. Sorry.

I'd vote for you selling some of your 600 points to your family. Then they'd be members and eligible for the discount. Then you could all get an AP and use each other's points for the same stay that you had planned anyway

Sheeesh. I only said was I was a little disappointed. ;)

I guess the point in noting that I had 600 points is that those 600 points could just have as easily been 3 different families with 200 points each. In that instance, everyone could get the annual passes. But the reality would be that it would still be 600 points and the same family members would be going and using the points. The only difference is whose name is on the deed. Thus, I’m a little disappointed that it doesn’t work well with the way I have my points.

But on some other comments I have to say that I think DVC is being confused with some benevolent grandfather giving gifts to his grandchildren and the grandchildren keep wining for more. DVC is not that grandfather. DVC is a business. We are the customers. Any perks we get are because either directly or indirectly it helps the Disney bottom line. Give us a discount on annual passes and we will buy more passes, come more often, spend more in the restaurants, etc. Give us a discount on annual passes and DVC can use it as a selling point to sell more DVC. Give us discount passes and it promotes good will and we tell other people how good DVC is and it promotes more sales of DVC. It’s a great perk because it’s good for the business and good for the customer. It’s not Grandfather taking money out of his wallet for me.

Since DVC is the business and we are the customers we are supposed to ask for things we want. We do it every day when we buy a toy at one store because it’s cheaper than another store or buy a certain TV because it has more of the features that we want than another television. I think it’s called capitalism. Of course since Disney is the business it needs to figure out if what we want will be good for its bottom line and many times it will not. But asking, that’s our job. Again, I’m not mooching money from Grandfather.

For years on this board people have been asking for the annual pass discount. They have been pointing out the fact that they would spend more money if they had the discount. And may times they were answered on this board that they should just be happy with the DVC membership – that this is all they purchased. And it is all we purchased. But it sure didn’t hurt to ask.

I second your post, lehrsj!::yes::

No flamings allowed, everyone has a right to their own opinion. Don't like the thread, move along to the next one!

thank you goofy4dvc for posting 'exactly' what the Disney website states....its not too hard too understand. Its not rocket science here folks....really. If you don't have an ID stating your exact address....you're outta luck.

I also have emailed Disney and told them how thrilled my family is!

My hats off to DVC...(bowing gently..)

It will be a lot easier for us to understand it than it will be for the CM I suspect. At least given previous inconsistencies in application of rules. Plus, I bet it changes pretty quickly, maybe even before the first pass is sold.

Hats off to DVC for offering this wonderful perk. It'll probably change my vacation patterns.

Thanks, greatly appreciate the clarification. At least when you quoted me you did not rewrite my orginial post which some people do. I wish the forums had a feature when you use a quote that you can not change or rewrite the other person's words.

I do agree with Dean, that even if there is a guideline for purchase it will be interesting to see how it is administered. We all know that at Disney everything is subject to change even hourly.

I just came off the "Community Board" which is on the 27th page of this exact topic...and beating it to death!!! :(

Can't go through this again!! Its toooooo stressful !!

Bottom line:

Thank the DVC and be happy for those able to take advantage of this "GREAT" perk!!

I'm outta this thread..
