Okay, *one* of my problems.

Ahhh well that's something interesting...cuss..and the filter will fix it for you..try to fix it before you post and.....I had this explained to me in minute detail by a Mod once when I enquires about my points. Apparently you can basically just let 'er rip with profanity and as long as it gets caught in the system's filter, you're fine. It's trying to "circumvent" the filter that's the violation, which seems totally crazyto me, but whatever. I now use the odd cuss-word (when it really expresses my thoughts) - the stars show up in the post and I've never been given points again.
That was me..trust me it was pretty blunt. It didn't offend me though. I'm really not easily offended. Do I get irritated? sure but it's rare to get me offended. This is so me - due to my faulty memory I'm lousy at holding a grudge. I'm a little in awe of the PP who mentioned something about noticing that somebody he'd disagreed with had "liked" other posts disagreeing with him; ostensibly to "send him a message". I'd never in a million years be able to connect those dots. You need to be pretty blunt upfront if you want to offend me
There used to be a poster who shall not fully be named but started with 'figment' who liked to stir up all sorts of trouble. I'm thinking he got banned or decided to go to something else with his time. Anywho anytime I see an avatar that was his or a person's name that starts with what his did I have to do a double take to make sure he isn't back.My problem is when different people use the same/similar avatars - totally throws me.

I agree, completely messes with my tiny pea brain. As does all the similar sounding Disney-referencing names or often the ones with mom in them. I do try, but I think I lack the brain power -- along with being inundated with names, and serious backstories to go along with those many, many names at work every day.My problem is when different people use the same/similar avatars - totally throws me.

Of course, it doesn't matter if you never opened the inbox, if you had received points, you still had them. It's not like you have to acknowledge them. No, but about a year ago I made a somewhat snarky reply to someone's post, and an hour later there was the highlighted red "1" on the Inbox tab on the upper right. I didn't dare open it, thinking I got points and/or a nastygram. I was afraid to open it for a few days, but when I finally did it was a message from another poster giving me aon my comment.
I've found that here on the DIS there are many that don't like discussion. Of course, that has me wondering why they're on a discussion board.....![]()
I don't doubt your assessment of the situation but it occurs to me that I often read a thread and "like" a post (yes, sometimes only one) without posting to the thread....So after that person 'likes' the poster's post they never comment nor 'like' another comment on that thread even comments the person who they 'liked'. It's not hard to figure out that they wanted to show agreement (for whatever reason) with someone I was currently in a friendly disagreement with. Like I said I viewed that as petty.

I like posts because:
I like the post
I like the poster
People like getting likes
Other people are stingy with giving out likes
Sometimes I like to confuse posters by liking someone I disagree with
I like all replies on my threads as an acknowledgement that I read their post
It's nothing personal

Don't all of your posts start south? Most of the time my threads go south.
A grid of cellophane tape over the mouth of the vase, with smallish open squares. Nobody will ever know you think you can't arrange flowersI got piled on for wanting a flower arrangement and not a bouquet of flowers I have to arrange myself. I know, I know - I should be grateful, its the thought that counts, yadda yadda. I'm just really bad at arranging flowers.
I used to consider myself introverted. Passionate forum discussions have made me more outgoing IRL. Plus, my tv idol was Sophia Petrillo.I agree, and always find it intriguing when many people here say they are very introverted in real life.
Nah I don't get that vibe from you at allI don't doubt your assessment of the situation but it occurs to me that I often read a thread and "like" a post (yes, sometimes only one) without posting to the thread. If you ever notice me doing it - it's totally nothing personal.
Shoot, I got points just last week!![]()
Yes. When I was first here about 7 years ago, I dared to suggest that Disney consider having varying ticket prices for varying times of year. I practically had my head bitten off for that.
I think it's ridiculous that people will claim their pets are "therapy" animals so they can take them anywhere
The only points I've ever received were for starring out a word and "circumventing the filter." It wasn't even a bad word, just one as a new poster to the CB I thought some might be offended by and I couldn't think of different one. I see it ALL the time though and find myself wondering if all those people are actually getting points for it. I kind of felt at the time they were just putting a newbie "in check."

Me too! And sometimes I like one post, then get interrupted reading it, and never make it back to finish reading, so never post or like anyone else's post. And it's nothing personal at all. Just life getting in the way of DIS time.
