Roxymama's 5k to Marathon, Time to Collect Another Castle

Yay! Show us a picture!

And it's snowing here today... WHAT?! I hope that doesn't blow to you over the weekend and you have really great weather!

NOT SNOW!
Awww Rats...I just looked at the weekend weather and it's going to be in the 40's and rainy/stormy. Perfect!
Well...I'm getting that 10 miler in on Sunday no matter what...even if I have to wear my running clothes all day and literally pounce the moment it clears up!
The easy run can be on a treadmill, I can live with that.

You can do it! Here's hoping you get a good window to run on Sunday! I did a 10 and 11 miler on the treadmill for Princess training and it was the worst ever... This past winter was terrible for us on snow/ice.

Welp...it was treadmill last night for my easy run and weather says 80-90% chance of lighting/rain every hour until 12am today. Ugh!

So I'm trying to look on the bright side.

At least on the treadmill I'll have water in a big bottle and can replenish it. I can take bathroom breaks if needed. I can maybe try to watch a movie? I can hate every second of it? Ugh....ok I'm shouting to the universe....I WILL RUN 10 MILES today even if it's on that stupid machine.

And maybe if there's a break in the weather I'll get to first run outside sticking very close to home and if the storms come back then it's just less miles on the treadmill right after?

And if I do my run (which I WILL!) then

I'm going to try to instantly send you some of the good running weather we're having here, but in case that doesn't work ... good luck on the treadmill. I'm a big believer that the right entertainment on the treadmill really makes a difference - so find something that you're going to enjoy watching, settle in, and make the best of a tough situation!

I hear you. We were totally socked in yesterday. Torrential downpours. Had to cancel our first Galloway group run due to lightening.

Major flash flooding around here too. Ugh!!

We are clear of it today thankfully. Hope you get some breaks and a chance to run outside.

I did it

ETA: add at least 10-15 sec at least 4 times where I paused to fuel/water on my front steps. I feel great now but we shall see how I feel tonight. I'm stretching and foot rolling but I had no issues during this run...yelling at myself to slow the F down was my biggest.
Hubby texted me every mile a funny gif as I did 10 laps around my neighborhood holding up my hands to show my mile to our big front window. Baby slept the whole time. And a storms a brewing but I didn't get wet. Was the half marathon gods smiling down on me :).

This is a good feeling. Now please commence yelling at me for not slowing the F down :). J/k

I forgot to add that citrus clif gel and orange bloks both work out. I prefer the gel for during and block for after I'm done. I can't do a full gel at once, so I split it at 4 mile and 7 mile. With about one last squeeze to finish it at 8. I drank two 12oz bottles of water in total! having that vs the one 9oz during my 9 mile was significantly better. So I believe I will stop at all water stops and bring clif products for my half. I can always test out my other brands that I have later this summer :)
And I ran in a jacket and long pants the whole time. Not very windy. No elevation gain.
So those are the things I forgot to add before.

Go you!! I'm so glad your weather held up, and look at those times!! I'll let smarter runners than me talk about slowing down - I'll just say that your run is something I aspire to someday.

I feel great now

I'm not terribly worried about it. Was it too fast? Probably a touch too much. But I also anticipate you're a touch faster than when we started out in this training cycle. So while by definition you trained close to the "grey zone", it's alright because it wasn't too fast to become a Marathon Tempo run which would have pushed the limits at this duration.

I think you're ready to tackle Tink!

:tinker::tinker::tinker::tinker::tinker::tinker::tinker::tinker::tinker::tinker::tinker::tinker::tinker::tinker:

PS- The grey zone is defined as the pace between long run and M Tempo. It's not fast enough to teach the mind/body what it feels like to run marathon tempo, but too fast to elicit the correct benefits of the long run. It's kind of the no man's land of training paces.

Yay!!! Great run!!! And I'm admiring your outside running, too! I was very crabby this morning and did my scheduled short run on the treadmill. :( Then last-minute cheap seats to the baseball game - thankful for the roof on the stadium. Just terrible weather - but I see some sunshine mid-week!

Wooo hooo! Good pace right through as well! Looking good for Tink:tinker:

Thank you!

Nice work! I'm not going to tell you to slow down...ain't nothin' gonna slow your roll! :flower1:
So you'd be the devil on my shoulder vs the angel saying "slow down"!
And thanks!

WOOHOOOOOO AWESOME JOB!!

:tinker::tinker::tinker::tinker::tinker:

Woohoo indeed!

Girl you are awesome and FAST!!! Way to go!! pixiedust:

Thanks! Today felt more strong than fast which I guess is a good sign!

Amazing job!!!

Thank you too!

That's so nice! I'm so used to aspiring to other people, that's very nice of you to say!

Wait are those 14 fairies? :)

I kept backing myself off the pace on purpose but I never felt tempo-ish, I think I found some kind of groove or second wind. My legs just felt strong under me. Felt easier than it should have. I really was not happy with myself for doing that 10:05 but then once I slowed down and realized I still felt like a long run effort, then I just let it go. But I was consciously trying not to overdue it. Today was a weird "things clicking" day. The cooler weather probably was also helpful. Hoping a tiny bit of that magic sticks for Tink.

I was so dreading the treadmill. I was trying to act like it'd be no big deal but I really really didn't want to do 10 indoors. Not sure I'd have stuck it out!

Wooo!!! 10 miles and not getting wet! That definitely seems like a bonus!

Yes! I have a huge fear of catching a cold prior to Tink so running for close to 2 hours in downpour didn't seem ideal. Happy not to get wet (save for some trees that wanted to be drippy.)

TINK TRAINING WEEK #16 AKA RACE WEEK EVE!!!

So last week was kind of unusual in that scheduling conflict during the week had me eliminating my easy run in exchange for keeping my tempo, but on a different day. And then the bad stormy weather had my weekend easy run relegated to the treadmill late at night on Saturday instead of my preferred daytime outdoor run. BTW there is no one at the gym on rainy saturday nights and switching between undercover boss and family guy was killing my brain cells, which is fine I guess at easy pace.
Sunday you all saw above that I DID IT and it wasn't ideal that I basically saw the weather change and had to get dressed and go immediately but maybe that helped me in not overthinking it. Hubby somehow got in 5 miles once I was done. My kiddo made sure to let us know how bad we smell and how gross we feel post-run and that we needed to clean up if we wanted to sit next to her. Thanks kiddo!

So that plan for this week...aka not quite all easy stuff yet...but we are getting close!
Mon 5/1: REST Ahhhhh
Tue 5/2: 5 mi @ EA. It should stop raining but still probably treadmill. It's kind of cool that this has become such an easy thing for me when I think back to 2016 paces and durations. Like I don't sweat this and past-me SO WOULD HAVE!
Wed 5/3: STIRLAUNDRY - this is when you do laundry while planking, etc.
Thur 5/4: 1 mi WU, 6 mi Tempo, 1 mi CD. See - still hard one left. My legs feel legit tired today (not sore!) but tired. I'm hoping I'll get through this approriately.
Fri 5/5: Flying Pig 1 miler! Ends in a free chili dog and beer. I'm basically gonna pace off hubby or family so unknown mile time, but I don't expect to break any land speed records. But this is gonna be a PR no matter what :)
Sat: 5/6 Flying Pig 5k. So this is added but hear me out. My schedule had me for one 4 mi @ EB (11:16) this weekend and no long run. Finding a time to do it Sunday was looking tough and hubby says "why don't you run the 5k and just run it for fun...it'll be open streets and it's at 10am." He's running the 10k at 8am for time so should be done shortly after 9am. So I said "yeah, ok" And as god as my witness (or just you all) I will run it EB and have a fantastic time but not a fast time. I checked first that this route is devoid of any bridges or hills (unlike that pesky 10k) and it looks easy peasy. I even marked myself as the slower estimated time to force me back in the corrals aka pig pens.

Ok so that's it. A tempo that may be tough and then some easy and fun stuff. And then next week it's all shorties at EA and EB. And then OMG TINK!!!!
:tinker:

Stay tuned this week for me obsessing over my Wine n Dine weekend ADRs which is this Thursday (how? I'm so unprepared for that!) and some Flying Pig recaps. I mostly excited for kiddo to run her "piglet" race with me. It'll be a PR in the 50 yd dash.

Oh and this is the new "cool" me post sunglasses purchase. I'm bringing these for Tink so I can get some "cool pics"...also because of the sun. Full Tink costume try on will be at some soonish future date.
