Roxymama's 5k to Marathon, Time to Collect Another Castle

YAAAASSSS! I just need to add wings. To be fair these wings I put on were like made for a baby...a very small baby. Possibly an actual fairy.

I've seen some people running with wings and they looked pretty decent. I can't imagine doing that but still a neat costume.

I do love how they look in pics from previous races! I just am sometimes a bit too hard on myself when trying on any type of costumey thing. I'll need to find the right wings that make me feel cute...but if none work out, I'm okay being a flightless bird.

Mickey waffles are automatically healthy because they're Mickey Mouse, and Mickey Mouse = Disney = runDisney = running = healthy! That's normal logic, right?
(I'm not just saying this because I had a Mickey waffle for breakfast the other day. I would have had a leftover waffle for breakfast today (we make big batches and the leftovers last a few days), but I didn't eat breakfast today)

This ever happen to people? The week one soreness?

Without fail it happens to me every time. Just keep at it and keep a tab on "soreness" vs "pain". After a few more runs things should start to loosen up. If they don't, we can re-evaluate the training.

Ok, good to know I'm not the only one. Hopefully tonight just goes smoothly and I'm less like a crotchety old lady when I wake up in the morning. If anything has a real ouch pain I will back off and report it, but let's hope that doesn't happen!

Yeah, I've had that soreness happen (having it right now actually!). Maybe you should come to the dark side and try yoga!! ;)

Count me in on being sore too. I've added in some core work and strength training too, so I think the combination of everything has my body not so happy with me.

@Chris-Mo loves to tell me, "Soreness is just weakness leaving the body." And then I usually hit him. :)

I actually bought a yoga DVD for that very reason way back when I first started running and then the lazyroxy post-run was always like "eh...let's go to sleep"
So maybe it's time to dust that thing off. And also maybe dust myself off.

After hitting him, you can say "Wow, I do feel stronger!"

Who uses a hotel treadmill? Your on vacation, why would you run?

Oh wait....this girl does!!!

Hubby and I are on our staycation in Chicago and I love this hotel! Loews Chicago is very nice. A "view" of part of the river from our room too.
Had a lovely Starbucks breakfast in the lobby and killed time at target getting a swimsuit so hubby can give me a swim lesson in the spa pool later.
We are less than an hour from 4 dance lessons.
Wish us luck!
Athletic staycation. I'll post more after we do more.
Chicago long run tomorrow hopefully

So dancing was a blast but my legs feel like 36yr old legs today, which apparently makes me look like the soldiers from Toy Story (not the cool push up ones, the shuffley kind) or perhaps Weezy the penguin.
At least according to my husband.
The basic of St. Louis shag is triple step, kick kick, triple step, kick kick - all while bouncing the whole time.
I kept up, but hoo-boy! I think I bit off more than I could chew. Maybe next time I'll do one or two lessons and that's it.

Here's my view of watching younger people show me how to boogie...my view is from a chair. :) ps I didn't really have iPhones for filming back in my heyday...I used to write what I learned in a notebook (and I'd have no idea what any of it meant a few days later). Kids these days!

At least I had this awesome hotel bathroom to look forward to before dinner!

That shower pressure on my calves was LIFE!

And then we tried to decide if we could nap while awake but that was a no. It was dinner time.
We went to Bohemian House for Restaurant week after taking the worst Uber driver ever. Granted, we could have walked the 4 blocks but it was snowing and just triple step, kick kicked for hours.
Wanna see our food?

Pierogis!

Mushroom spatzl! (I always end up eating the vegetarian options because I love mushroom so much)
IMG_8902.JPG
Pork loin and lil dumplings that were the best thing we ate (well I got one bite, hubby only let me have the one).
There are no pics of dessert. I forgot to take them but it was just "eh" dry chocolate cake.
I should have ordered those dumpling things for dessert.
The portions were actually reasonable so I felt pretty good.
Oh and I took a bathroom selfie because i wanted to steal this totally Snow White magic mirror

I was trying for a flapper vibe with my shirt. Those ruffles kept getting stuck in all sorts of weird directions all night though.
The blues bands were good and we ran into so many old dance friends and all commiserated about our aging bones and the good ole days over $5 miller lites!
Side-rant: everyone kept telling me how good I looked, how much smaller I was and stuff. I was probably 20+ lbs heavier last time many of them had seen me. I've wanted people to notice but then it kind of hits me as "you looked terrible before". I dunno, I should be happy but it's always weird to hear that people maybe thought of you as larger before???? Like when I didn't really think that defined me before. Confusing. Anyone ever feel this way?

I have a long run on the treadmill to do tonight and I'm sooooo not in the mood. But gotta do it. The nap I took today was helpful. Gonna sleep well tonight.
My calves are still in the sore territory so I dunno how the paces are gonna go though. Treadmill is always "faster" feeling than outdoors. If I get an ouches I won't be a hero.

Sounds like a great weekend. That dance looked exhausting so I can imagine being very sore.

I hear what you are saying about the mixed feelings when people comment on your change, but it's so awesome that they noticed how great you look!!

Dinner looked pretty darn tasty though and love that blouse you were wearing.

Hope that treadmill run goes well.

Thanks zelly! It's always jarring to be reminded by others even when they are being sincerely nice. But at least it's better than when people used to say "you lost weight" and I'd just smile knowing I definitely had not (or had gotten heavier) so yeah, I should be thinking of this positively right?

Do you think a treadmill will still work if I put a big comfy chair on it? (Don't tell my coach that I typed that!!)
