RotR Planning & Daily Boarding Group Discussion - *CLOSED*

Not open for further replies.
I plan on attending the first EMH early. Hoping I can actually join the queue during EMH and Disney doesn’t wait to enable the feature until all park guests are allowed in. It would be amazing to do RNR and ToT over and over while already having a boarding group. Only time will tell!

I am here now and tried up ask some of these questions about the EMH morning on Sunday. No firm replies about whether they would let us in before 8 or whether boarding groups would be turned on early. But they did confirm ROTR would not be open during EMH.

What do you experts think will happen on Sunday?!

Ok, I know everyone is excited but we MUST try and keep similar topics in each thread.
There's a thread on the attraction and it's systems, technology, ride thru, times here: https://www.disboards.com/threads/star-wars-galaxys-edge-attractions-planning.3728060/
There's a thread for how the Virtual queue, boarding pass system works: https://www.disboards.com/threads/joining-a-boarding-group-question.3781381/#post-61316060
and of course we have the various threads for merchandise, food, and just back experience reviews.
This is for everyone's benefit. Lets keep this thread discussing opening day/week experiences for RotR ONLY
Also any discussion on circumventing Disney rules is strictly prohibited by the Dis guidelines.
I will now go back as far as I can and delete off topics posts from here

I wouldn’t count on only being though Security to sign up. Ours didn’t register until we tapped in. One member had trouble with the finger scanner and we waited several minutes and she still wasn’t eligible for boarding group until after tapping in. I known it’s anecdotal but maybe need to know where the scanners may be?

For this person who has successfully ridden I was just trying to see how long they “waited” in total. (ie were they under the bridge at 2am and thus essentially waited 6 hours) 🤣 Just trying to have stories to tell my friends.

It wasn’t too bad. Left Gran Destino at 4:15. By 4:30 I was at the gate with about 20 people ahead of me (Uber driver pulled up to the parking lot which wasn’t open yet so he stealthly turned around and dropped me off in cast member parking). Through the tapstiles circa 5:30. By luck I was on MDE and saw there were boarding groups (since they didn’t announce to anyone beforehand that we needed a boarding group) so I got into group 10. Held around Chinese theater until 6:20ish. 6:45ish on the ride. Then the breakdown. (Disorganized chaos ensued for about an hour ... had patience and kept my cool) then just before 8 back onto the line ... just after 8:20 I was off. Amazed. Deliriously tired. But amazed. It’s not just a ride it’s an experience. Currently having a margarita at Cava Del Tequila while I wait for my Group 66 Boarding for round 2.

I can’t express how disorganized and “un-Disney” the experience was after the breakdown. Shockingly, it seemed like they weren’t prepared for the inevitable. That being said, I was pleasantly surprised with how quickly I was back on the ride. All in all, it’s opening day of one of the most anticipated and (for us) controversial rides ever made ... props to the amazing CMs who are on the front lines today dealing with irate guests and mass confusion, all with a smile on their faces.

Those who got a ride to Boardwalk, what did you say to the security guard to get in?

I just want to confirm that you didn’t need the boarding group to get into the land, just to get onto ROTR? Will be there next week on Tuesday but we have mid day passes so I doubt will be able to get into a boarding group for ROTR if we’re not entering HS until noon. If that’s the way they continue to manage the crowds, we will likely be blocked out of ROTR but would still like to see the land and go on Smugglers Run. Or will ROTR draw such crowds that they go back to VQ for all of SWGE?

A CM said we could (not that I trust random CMs) but others posted they did and still kept place and they rode. And I’ve been out of the park for over two hours and still in the virtual queue.
We were here at 6:40am and got boarding group 42. We left to go to magic kingdom around 8:30 (two CMs were not sure if we could leave but someone in the many guest services area they setup said we could) We enjoyed MK for a while and our boarding group was called at 11:39. They gave us until 1:39 to check in. We are successfully moving slowly through the queue now.

Right now you only need the boarding group to ride RotR. Who know what happens going forward. Today is opening day craziness. There may not even be VQ tomorrow.

We did not. The CM we spoke to said they don't anticipate reaching capacity but warned that it could happen so leaving comes with a small risk

If the VQ opens when EMH does, it sounds like some may be eligible to join even if they haven't tapped in based on proximity to the park so the early boarding groups would be a mix of EMH resort guests and regular day guests. I am also curious what will happen with regular day guest crowds knowing there is EMH on Sunday? It's not like the daily EEMH when the land first opened that couldn't be avoided, but the ride is brand new. Separate entrance lines and CMs with MB readers will be interesting! I remember how crowded the TSL EMH was. This will definitely be something new and exciting!

Fair point about the VQ. It was only used on the opening day of SWGE for the entire land.

I have a feeling based on demand and reliability of the ride that the ride specific VQ may stick around a little longer to help disperse the crowds and lines.

completely agree, MFSR worked flawlessly from day one and the land itself is huge so it absorbs crowds very well. RotR continues to have issues and the VQ is a great way for Disney to control crowds while still providing good costumer service

sorry this happened, this is the same way they did Pandora and SWGE, it was reported here and a continued topic brought up by myself and others to keep everyone informed, the recommendation was to arrive at DHS by 5am or 6am at the latest. But now you are better prepared for the future
Curious what the best guess recommendation for arrival tomorrow is. We are happy to get there early, but trying to decide whether early is 5, 6, or 7. Would appreciate any insight! Trying to keep up but this is a family trip and it is hard to read everything!

I think one of the reasons that smugglers is running smoothly is they they have 4 bays, so the whole ride doesn’t go offline when one cockpit is having issues.
