Roseanne back

I just watched the first 2 episodes last night & I loved them both! I was a huge fan of the sitcom when I was younger, & I thought the humor was the same. I felt that they equally laughed at all political camps, the way SNL does, and it was meant to be light and funny. I will plan to watch the upcoming episodes.

I agree. I had heard the show was quite politically charged before I watched the new episodes but I didn't think it was that bad. More was crammed into the first episode than I feel was necessary but I did like how Roseanne would take pot shots at Jackie about being liberal and Jackie would give it right back to her. It wasn't completely balanced but it wasn't totally one sided either. I did enjoy the second episode better.

I didn't think all the actors were stiff. Most of them were fine but the original Becky struck me as seriously awkward. Maybe she will get back in the groove in the future.

Some of the best episodes were when she was on. I love the Mother's Day picnic episode.

DD12 and I were just watching some reruns last week and saw the Thanksgiving episode where Mary pretended to be losing it, forgetting everyones names and such, just to screw with Bev. That was a good one too.

So satire is ok but taking a stand for social justice isn't? That's some skewed logic there.
I think that we all know this particular issue is viewed differently by different people. Pretty well-tread ground.

And it is of an entirely different character either way than satire -- we should be able to agree on that as well. Better or worse is a personal opinion -- not a logical matter.

I don't see how spitting and crotch grabbing while singing the National Anthem can be viewed as satire.

However, if that behavior is acceptable by the person given the honor of singing it how can someone quietly taking a knee during the singing be offensive?

It isn't logical.

All that being said, Roseanne just isn't funny.

Opinion. My understanding is that she was satirizing baseball players. I don't think it appropriate or funny. But this is an opinion. Not logic - not fact.

Opinion. I don't appreciate either. But this is an opinion. Not logic - not fact.

Your opinion.

Your opinion.

I don't personally see the point in conflating fact / logic (OBJECTIVE) and opinion / taste (SUBJECTIVE).

ETA: I liked Roseanne's show back then. While a bit rusty I think it's also funny now. Not everyone will agree, and that's ok! :) But it's ALL just a matter of taste/opinion.

Just curious, if you don't like Roseanne, you don't think she is funny, why are you posting on a thread about her TV show? This makes no sense to me. This is a thread about a television show that is quickly turning political/ugly. It is going to get locked, when all we want to do is talk about what WE liked about her show.

A plea to the moderators, instead of locking the thread if it gets too political, could you just remove the OT posts so we can keep this about the TV show? Thanks!

I missed the show, no TV where I was and I'm hoping to catch it on demand at some point.
I don't watch sitcoms anymore, but I will tune in for nostalgia. If it as good as the reviews have said I may watch regularly.

I know what you mean. I think the awkwardness comes from the fact that she is still playing a bratty teenager, when she is now a woman in her 40's.

I was just getting ready to post this exact same thing!!!!

I agree about the original Becky-I wonder if this was her first return to acting or television in a while? I love how much Darlene's daughter looks just like her! I had to google it to see if it was her actual daughter in real life!

I agree-I haven't enjoyed a sitcom since the 1990's, so I'm happy for the return of a good one!

I am looking forward to the next episode—especially hearing more about what happened to all of them over the last 20 years. Hopefully it is good enough to keep watching. I don’t think I watched all 9 seasons the first time through. It was pre DVR so that may be why, but I may have grown tired of Roseanne. I actually prefer some of the other characters—Dan, Jackie. Roseanne just seems to be playing herself and her sarcasm reminds me of my mother and not always in a good way.

I never liked the original, so I was baffled by the fact that they brought it back. I love The Middle which kind of follows the same demographic, but the writing is so much better and less angry. I won't be watching the new Roseanne if for no reason other than her screeching voice. I get an instant headache when I hear her talk.

I’m so gutted to hear this is the last season.

Honestly, it's disturbing to see a conspiracy theorist like Roseanne getting back in the mainstream. Sadly not surprising but disturbing none the less.
