Roseanne back

I was uncomfortable with harris being shoved in the sink, it was kinda funny, but really wrong. the show when Roseanne spanked DJ and then got upset about losing control was scary because she was abused. I think they forgot about this. they talked to Darlene about kids should still be spanked these days. if you were abused, you would never take this route or suggest it. that bothered me.
im also hoping for a cameo from Clooney...who's with me??

The sink scene was certainly beyond anything I would ever do, but not something that made me uncomfortable to watch on a sitcom.

Not sure I took the spanking comment as literally — more like kids still need to be disciplined — they aren’t your best friends — you’re their parent.

Clooney cameo? Wouldn’t be a plus to me at all. Nope.

I liked the Courtyard by Marriott scene. Reminded me of my life. The sink scene made me uncomfortable though. Thought they went a bit too far.

Roseanne still seems forced to me. Her best interactions are with Dan. And I think John Goodman is carrying the show right now. Laurie Metcalf was excellent in the first episodes but we didn’t see much of her last night.

I agree with your thoughts about the sink scene; it was a little difficult to watch, and I thought it was unnecessary. She could have given Harris a brief squirt with the sink hose instead of holding her head under the faucet. Darlene made an excellent point when she told Roseanne and Dan that some choices her parents made back in the day are no longer acceptable, and even unlawful. There are many of us out there who were raised like this, including my parents and grandparents, and it may have been a little uncomfortable for some. Other than this particular scene, the script was pretty well done.

The head under the sink didn't make me feel uncomfortable per se, but i agree with the PP who said she could have just doused her with the hose or maybe even pour a glass of water over her head, but it is a comedy and was done in fun not in cruelty.

I thought the whole chair thing was hilarious. Wish Laurie Metcalf had more airtime, but hopefully she will as the season goes on.

I agree about Dan. I told my DH last night that originally he was just Dan, but in the last 20 years John Goodman has shown himself to be a good actor. Not so much for the rest of the cast except maybe Laurie Metcalf.

I agree about the original Becky-I wonder if this was her first return to acting or television in a while? I love how much Darlene's daughter looks just like her! I had to google it to see if it was her actual daughter in real life!
She was in an episode of Law & Order: SVU a few years ago, along with Tom Skerritt and Cynthia Gibb. That's off the top of my head, don't know if she's done any other acting.

Right & inconsistent with the show b/c like you brought up the spanking episode with DJ was such a big deal to them. Then to say that’s what they did when they didn’t is part of the things I’ve seen that seems forced.

She was also in Boys Don't Cry with Hillary Swank, and a few other TV episodes.

Plus, no clean-up - like you'd have with the other suggestions. I didn't think it was abusive. Sure, Roseanne held Harris's head in the (probably empty) sink, by she sprayed only the back of the girl's head.

She was also in a movie or tv show where she was going to give up her baby for adoption and then changed her mind. For the life of me I can’t remember what it was though. I know I can easily IMDb it but I like the mental workout.

So we just watched the latest episode. We thought it was hilarious. The housekeeping bit was too funny.

I can see where the sink part could make some people uncomfortable but it didn't really to me; I also didn't know about the spanking stuff talked about by other posters from the original run as I was too casual of a watcher to know that. I thought it was funny how Roseanne explained how she did the sink thing when Darlene asked her "How could you do that?". I didn't really care for the exact name calling by Harris and Roseanne.

I did think the episode touched on multi-generational living but also how grandparents fit into roles with their grandchildren.

The chair bit cracked me up especially the whole race part. My husband's grandmother (who was a lot older than Roseanne) stubbornly refused to used the Acorn stairlift my mother-in-law and step-father-in-law had installed in their house. She ended up using it to go up but refused to use it to go down and instead scooted down the stairs. It was the feeling like you're old that got to her-she was nearly in her mid-80s though to be fair.

I do agree John Goodman is a bit quicker on the uptake but I enjoyed their banter just like in the original run.

That was Shameless
