Roseanne back

I agree about the original Becky-I wonder if this was her first return to acting or television in a while? I love how much Darlene's daughter looks just like her! I had to google it to see if it was her actual daughter in real life!

I did too. They have very similar jaw lines.

I know what you mean. I think the awkwardness comes from the fact that she is still playing a bratty teenager, when she is now a woman in her 40's.

Maybe that's it. I remember the scene where she is talking about being a surrogate and she said the woman wanted a surrogate in her 30's and Darlene gave her grief about being 43 and she said "yeah but I told her I was 33 because the woman at the MAC counter told me that was my skin age." I thought the writers turned her into an idiot then.

They definitely made Becky's character years ago a little ditzy when at first she was suppose to be so smart. The earliest years they had Darlene calling Becky a nerd constantly, then all of a sudden Becky became a ditz. Not sure why they did that, but maybe because they had made Darlene so dark, then needed to make Becky more comical.

OP is correct how in the beginning of the series Becky was the academic type and Darlene was a jock.
Once Becky eloped her character become more ditzy. And Darlene was all about writing.

That reminds me of another series. If anyone watched Boy Meets World while I loved the show it always annoyed me that they turned a normal teenager of a brother for Eric and made him just the village idiot (and I don't mean that in a mean way it's just how I would describe him).

The girl who plays Darlene's daughter on Roseanne is also a regular on Shameless. Now that is one crazy show.

I missed last night's episode. I will have to see if it is on abc.com.

The old Roseanne did shine through in this episode, and highlighted the Connor's anti PC parenting style.
Finding dirty dishes by the bedroom door; "What is this Courtyard by Marriott?" :rotfl2:
Harris was being a disrespect full brat, but I totally didn't expect the head under the faucet scene; this could have been something out of my grandmother's parenting playbook. I have to say, granny in the shower scene was hysterical. Dan's flip phone.:lmao:

There have been some good moments and I've enjoyed it so far, but I also love sitcoms and miss the good ones (Everybody Loves Raymond, Seinfeld, King of Queens, Last Man Standing, etc) so I'm glad to see Roseanne back.

Having said that, I think the cast is still finding their groove. The scenes seem a little forced with their acting to me (with all characters). It doesn't flow quite as well as the original did but I'm hoping in time they will find it.

I loved how they showed the "new" parenting style of talking out feelings vs. "old school" parenting. Loved when she doused Harris's head and Darlene said, "how could you do that?" and Roseanne said, "Oh, it was easy, just use your leg, shift your weight and shove the head under the water......" It was also funny when Harris was taking a long shower, not caring that others were waiting, and Roseanne got in with her. LOL!

And the stair chair thing. "You stay put! I'm going to be there in 3 to 4 minutes!" LOL

I felt like the old Dan really came out last night in the scene where he was "racing" Roseanne up the steps with the chair.

I liked the Courtyard by Marriott scene. Reminded me of my life. The sink scene made me uncomfortable though. Thought they went a bit too far.

Roseanne still seems forced to me. Her best interactions are with Dan. And I think John Goodman is carrying the show right now. Laurie Metcalf was excellent in the first episodes but we didn’t see much of her last night.

I tried to watch it but didn't enjoy it. I guess now that I'm older I don't think that style of comedy (is it comedy?) is funny anymore.

My husband is still DVR'ing it and watching it after I go to bed.
