Roseanne back

While I can totally get the discussion evolved I'm just hoping that come next weeks episode we can go back to discussing the show itself. I enjoyed hearing about the tidbits, easter eggs, nods, etc people discussed after the first 2 episodes. I don't want the nearly year old thread to get closed down :)

I agree. It would be nice to get back to the show discussion.

I just watched the first 2 episodes last night & I loved them both! I was a huge fan of the sitcom when I was younger, & I thought the humor was the same. I felt that they equally laughed at all political camps, the way SNL does, and it was meant to be light and funny. I will plan to watch the upcoming episodes.

Roseanne is very controversial IRL. I get that. She can be ugly and vulgar. But with TV, I personally watch it to be entertained. As an actress, her character makes me laugh. I look at it like she is doing a job. She is getting paid to make people laugh. What she does outside of her job is not my concern. I choose to ignore it.
It takes a lot for me to boycott something. I don't actively boycott anything although I won't go out of my way to patronize certain companies.

Roseanne crosses a line for me. There is no way I will watch her show and contribute to her profits and exposure. I find what she did to the National Anthem far more offensive than what the NFL players were trying to convey, with the exception of Kaepernick's socks, that was despicable.

My father was in a Nazi work camp. Being Jewish or claiming satire is no excuse for a picture like that.

She was mocking baseball players, the way they spit and grab their crotch in public. How's that for in depth?
She knew when she was asked to sing the song that it couldn't be taken seriously, since she has no singing ability.

So why don't you eat Papa John's or Jimmy John's?

I don't like that the Jimmy of Jimmy Johns likes to trophy hunt. I have no problem with hunting for food, I have many friends that do. But hunting just to kill something and show what a big man you are? Turns my stomach. As far as Papa Johns goes, I remember where there was a lot of discussion about making companies pay more for health care. The owner's response was that is ok, I'll just pass that charge along to my customers. Because a company that brings in over a billion dollars in revenue a year can't afford decent health care for it's employees without passing the cost to it's customers. He is free to do that. I'm free to eat better pizza than his.

So, it is ok to mock baseball players while desecrating the National Anthem but not ok to exercise the constitutional right not to stand for other people? Got it.

And you are saying that the singing of the National Anthem should not be taken seriously when you can't carry a tune, but it should be taken seriously at other times? Sounds pretty hypocritical with lots of picking and choosing when the National Anthem is important and when it is not. So what is it? Is the National Anthem important or not?

I can't carry a tune in a bucket, LOL. I still take the National Anthem seriously and sing it multiple times a year at Cubs games, although I admit I don't do it loudly in deference to the people around me :listen:. In any case, I know I can't sing so I would not have even put myself in the situation of singing in public.

I found an interesting article about the day Roseanne sang. It's an interview of a number of people who were there, including members of the Padres organization: http://www.sportingnews.com/mlb/new...ry-25th-anniversary/jf1o4z9qe1ai13ot11z0w58cl

The anthem was not the breaking point for me. I just find it hypocritical that some people get so up in arms about some people and not others when doing similar things with the anthem.

For me, the Nazi picture was the straw that broke the camel's back. I feel like our society is excusing more and more bad behavior in our leaders and celebrities just because we like the job they are doing. I am just as guilty. But Roseanne Barr is where I draw the line.

I won't be watching although I am sure Roseanne doesn't care if my one tv doesn't tune in :)

This has been true for a long, long time. This seems an odd place to draw the line, but to each his/her own! :goodvibes

it would be completely reasonable to expect that whoever arranged for Roseanne to perform knew she can't sing.

Now, can we please get back to discussing the show, and avoid anything that might get the thread closed???????

This ^^^^ Thank you.

If you don't like Roseanne and won't watch her show, fine. This thread is for people who DO watch the show and enjoy it.

I didn't intentionally seek out the Roseanne reboot because I could kind of take it or leave it the first time the show aired. But I was flipping through the channels and saw it and thought I would check it out. I really enjoyed it! I think it's going to be a good show and I plan to watch every week.

I don't really understand why people are bringing up the national anthem (wasn't that like, 30 years ago?) or the controversial pictures (from about 10 years ago) as they have nothing to do with the show. "Roseanne Connor" is fictional, and the show is funny. That's all I care about in a sitcom lol.

Like I said in an earlier post, character assassination. Next, there will be calls for boycotts of the sponsors.

I think I’m the one responsible for getting the thread off track. I apologize. If I have more to say, I’ll start another thread.

That being said, I’m looking forward to Tuesday’s show. It’s too bad we won’t see Nana Mary. She was hilarious and who I want to be when I get old LOL
