Rope Drop/ Spot Saving Question

Good morning! I will be visiting UO/IOA next week with my 11 year daughter and my parents. While I have no issue jumping out of bed, grabbing coffee and getting out the door, my parents are a bit slower, so my question is- If myself and my daughter get in line for rope drop 1 1/2 hours before park opening, and my parents catch up with us later, will people in line have an issue with them joining us (kind of cutting the line)? I'm hoping since it's only 2 of them that it wouldn't cause an uproar, but has anyone else done this without issue?

I wouldn't be surprised if people are miffed. Only two adds up fast when taking in account the hundreds. I'm gracious when it is more of I need to use the restroom, I'll be back to my spot situations.

Do an earlier bed time the night prior so you all can get in line together might be the easiest way that morning .

My other thought would be how set are they on riding with you all? DH likes to sleep in, when prevented from doing this he gets crabby. He's also a non-rider for most things, so the kids and i hit the EE hours and DH moseyed over to the park shortly after it opened. The only fly in this plan could be the lines for security and to get into the park. Sadly I would not count on people being gracious at adding 2 more people in line.

Regardless of the reason, people aren't usually psyched about "line cutting". I'm not the type of person that would say anything, but there are plenty that would, and it could make your parents feel badly. Probably just best to go at a time that works for everyone and avoid the situation if possible.

Do your parents want to rope drop Hagrids? That'd really be the only reason they'd need to "cut" to catch up with you - otherwise, they can enter the park at their pace and catch up to you once you're already through the gates.

Sorry… but no, it’s not okay. Imagine if everyone did that.

No one wants to wait 2 hours for a ride to have people pass them to join their party. That adds up. It’s frustrating. I’ve had people join their party in front of us because their party got on line while they stopped to get coffee for everyone. Is it a huge deal? Maybe not, but it doesn’t just happen once. And it all adds up to a longer wait. My time is just as valuable as theirs.

I’ve had people run to get in line in front of me and make it through the entrance first and then the rest of their party passes us to join them. It’s rude.

I understand your situation though, and I feel for you and your family. It’s nice you asked. I hope your parents have a great time!

Will you have express passes? IMO, its not necessary to line up 90 minutes early with EPs. I brought my parents, in their 70s, to Universal a few years ago and we had EPs. They also move slowly, so it was nice not to have to rush in the morning and still have minimal waits in the park.

If you will not have EPs, I would suggest just having your parents meet you in the park after it opens. You and your DD do your priority rides at rope drop and meet them later. If the rides are important to them too, then they will have to move a little faster

Depending how far the lines go back, they may not even be able to join you. And yes, they will hear about it from someone, probably from folks in line but even possibly from UO personnel who are trying to manage the lines in the morning and are telling people where to join the back of the line...

Just FYI Hagrid's ride and the new Velocicoaster (sp?) don't take Express passes, so it you want to ride those, an early arrival (or snagging a spot in the virtual line) are your best bets there.

Why don’t you just not rush your parents and have them meet you later somewhere in the parks. My adult kids are not early birds, so I go for EE and tell them to call or text me when they are in the parks. They tend to not get going until after 10 am. I go for an 8 am EE, and enjoy time by myself. We have express, so other than the 2 rides, well 3, but that 3rd ride we can’t go on, we do single rider or wait until a not too long stand by line, and enjoy being together later in the day. They do try to enter by lunchtime, as mom usually is the one that pays. LoL

Having been in line when others have taken a similar approach, I can say first hand people do not look favorably on it. And those in line aren't shy about how they feel, either!
