Restaurants to avoid

This is actually a very helpful thread. I do think that these are all opinions because one person might have a good experience where someone else has a bad one. The same reason we are all different. With that being said, I do see some trends here and with so many other choices out there, why not go for something NOT on anyone's list :) Thanks posters.

PS - I have always paid oop and eaten at your Pecos Bill and ABC Commisary type places. This will be my first "better" dining experience with free dining in September :)

wow, I have reservation at some of these. I hope they are ok

I wouldn't worry about it too much. Everyone has their own opinions and what one doesn't like another one likes. Just go and enjoy your time at WDW!:)

ABC Commissary all the way... the food is terrible and have seen many people return it. We sometimes just go in their for the Air Conditioning!

Honestly, don't take anything in this thread to heart. Everyone has different tastes and expectations. If you list all restaurants in this thread, you will probably find 90% of all WDW restaurants. We love the food there. There are a couple places that we didn't enjoy but that doesn't mean that others won't. We don't like San Angel Inn because we have some wonderful Mexican Restaurants where I live and we think the food is much better. There are other people that love San Angel Inn. It's just a matter of opinion.

There are loads of people who don't like ABC Commissary but the wife and I love it there. I think the food is great.

We did not have a problem with their food either. It was just extremely crowded and we found it quite difficult to get a seat. Other than that, it was fine!

Another vote for Yak and Yetis CS... the honey chicken was GROSSSSS:scared1: I chucked it in the trash so fast it would have made your head spin.
I also though that the CS at Mexico was horrid! I read sooo many bad reviews but thought hey to each thier own and gave it a go... I remember thinking hey this is'nt so bad maybe even a little tasty as I was eating. Ask me if 1 hour later it was tasty and I'll tell you NO! NEVER AGAIN!!!!!:scared1:

Table:
Whispering Canyon (oh my gosh...this was just horrible....an HOUR wait for icky food...never again)
Hollywood and Vine (horrible food, dirty, absent server....did this 8 years ago and will never try it again...once was way more than enough)

Counter:
Yakitori...there is just nothing to say....inedible (Yuckitori is what we call it)

Only complaint is Hollywood and Vine. Bad service, bad food, no atmosphere.

Opinions can vary so much from one person to another about a restaurant. Some will love Coral Reef others hate it. Some love 50's Prime Time others hate it. Some love Whispering Canyon others hate it.

But there is one restaurant in WDW that just about has a universal opinion of it, and that is ABC Comissary.

It's horrible.

This place truly is the worst dining experience I have every had anywhere. From pathetic food, to a manager who didn't care that our family did not enjoy the slop they put on our tray. Not even an offer of, can I get you something else instead or a refund. And yes we were polite in complaining.

I think you should avoid the restaurants that don't have menus and/or atmospheres that appeal to you.

An example in my case--neither the premise of being teased by the waitstaff nor the menu at 50's Prime Time Cafe appeal to me. Therefore, I won't be going there. I can tell it's just not for me.

We are going to get 200 responses and 200 differing opinions. With that said i have two that I will never go back to and that's:

ABC Commissary
&
Garden Grill

We LOVE Boma and LeCellier.

Overall we have enjoyed most of our meals at WDW, or at least haven't been offended by them. But the places I would never return to are:

Hollywood and Vine (character lunch): SO overpriced, overcrowded and just bad food. The selection was pitiful compared to most other buffets, and the character interaction was not even very good. We felt ripped off. I am fine paying the same price for other buffets on property that I like.

Yak and Yeti Counter Service: The honey chicken was exactly as described earlier in this thread. Overfried and nearly "petrified" meat. And the shrimp lo mein was awful. This was lower quality than most $1 chinese food or mall chinese food places and way more expensive. BLEH!

Yachstman Steakhouse: We had a legitimate complaint and were treated very rudely by the manager. For the price, there are many other places that I think offer better food on property and a better selection.

FWIW, our favorite places that we never miss are Boma (sometimes twice per trip), Crystal Palace dinner, and Teppan Edo.

Tony's in the Magic Kingdom. Somehow, this became a family tradition. While planning this year's trip my daughters begged not to go there. Now these girls think I am a good cook so this tells you something about Tony's (and my kitchen abilities)! :rotfl2:

We went to lunch at Hollywood and Vine and wont ever go back. It was the worst buffet I have ever seen.
We also didnt care for 50's prime time, but we will probably give it one more try.

Dinner at the Castle, or as DH calls it after last trip "Garbage at the Palace". We were herded in an out like cattle, our server had no personality (he said the exact same thing to every table), our food was dried out and cold. We had a lovely window seat however you couldn't see through the dirt on the window and the floor still had lunch on it. NOT worth 2 table credits! I have been there for breakfast and lunch..both were good. Hollywood and Vine...food is terrible.
Love:
LeCellier for lunch and dinner
The Yachtsman had excellent food and service.
Spoodles also excellent!

Chef Mickey's...what a waste of time and money.

The food was ok on our first trip but was really bad on our second. The characters took way too long to get to each table. It took over two hours to get through dinner which is too long for a buffet setting as far as I am concerned.

Tony's food was pretty awful.

There is only one restaurant that we have eaten that we will never visit again - ABC Commissary. The first time, we ran in to get some noodle dish for dd1. She had been eating straight table food for 2 months and was asleep when we had lunch. I thought it would be something really good for her. She loved the noodles - until she puked them back up shortly after.

Next trip, dd ran in there to grab a chicken wrap. You really can't mess up a chicken wrap can you? Yes you can, sauce on it was not good and the chicken was cold and slimy - it went in the first trash can she passed.

We have no desire to visit there again.

We loved Coral Reef, Mama Melrose, Whispering Canyon, 'Ohana and even Sci Fi. I think all of these are personal opinions - what one person dislikes someone else might think is terrific.

Eating at the Castle was such a disappointment! I really was surprised and we tried it twice!
