I just noticed this. I am nor steady on my feet and am a susceptible to slipping. Why has this happened? I need to call MS!

Has this happened to others? What was your outcome??

I'm not clear on what happened, do you want an HA room?

What happened is that I booked a standard view BWV studio and it showed up as such, until today! Today it showed up as a HA accessible, and there was some indication that it had speech help as well. I did not want nor had I had this studio on my reservation last week when I last checked.

The CM I first dealt with spent about 10 minutes, but could not help. Tanya, a supervisor did get me switched to a regular room.

My problem is that I cannot balance quickly. I slip very easily. I have accepted a HA at times, and they have given me many towels to put on the floor to add traction for me as I walk on the inevitable wet floor caused by the open HA showers. However, that worked 2 years ago, I am not sure it would work for me now.

I understand now. It's not right that they change your reservation category after booking, I would send an email to member satisfaction just to let them know but I don't know if it does any good anymore. IMO the new guy in charge doesn't have a good grasp of our reality.

Good luck and take care.

I will send something. MS has heard from me many times! We are going to be there on Wednesday, we leave for FL tomorrow, if we can get out in spite of the storm on the way! I will wait to see how things work out before sending the additional e-mail. I have contacted MS praising Tanya for what she has done.

Did you do online checkin? Was there something clicked in there that might have caused them to change things? If so maybe you could redo it and unclick that choice?

Regardless, I bet it will be easier to get it changed to a non accessible room than it would be to change TO an accessible room. Assuming you're not arriving at midnight or something like that.

This happened to me once when I booked a BWV studio. The day before check-in I looked online and saw it was changed. I called MS, they could not explain it. MS called the resort and pretty much was told that was all that was available.

I think the resort's computer systems must force them to actually change the reservation when they assign HA rooms to those that did not book them. As it turned out the room I got had a very low bed and a tub/shower combination with multiple grab bars. I did not have a roll in shower.

Hope it works out for you.........Laura

I had this happen to us on our most recent BWV stay (STD view Studio 2-6 Dec). I had done online check in and all was well. A few days before our visit I was checking on another reservation for next year and I noticed that we were changed to a HA room.
I called member services and was told that this assignment was made in accordance with when we made our reservation (we are owners and we made our ressie in Jan).
I asked to speak to a supervisor. The supervisor called the resort and got it changed to a non-HA access room. The supervisor said that we were assigned the HA room because the room assigner thought that we with another party and wanted our rooms to be close together. (Nope, we were a solo reservation).
When we arrived, I noticed rooms around us and below us were being renovated (we could hear hammering during the day and there was a sign outside the door) I don't know if that had anything to do with it.
I asked if the HA was a new booking category, but didn't get an answer. I actually think that would be a good idea because if that was the only room left when booking, I would pick another date.

Bobbi, last week we called the BWV housekeeping number and had 3 rubber shower mats sent up. I put them on the bathroom floor of our HA 1 bedroom so DH would not slip. The floor did not get wet, however. As long as we pointed the shower head away from the shower curtain, we had no problem at all.

Jean, well, that would be a solution....we'll see how things work out.

I have not done on line check in.

Looking forward to this trip...we've had an early winter like much of the country!

Yes, I don't get water on the floor with a roll-in shower as long as the shower head is turned somewhat toward the wall...having as little water hit the shower curtain as possible.

While I'd personally rather not go than get a HA room, the reality is that it's not a separate category from a regular booking standpoint and anyone can have them assigned. I also realize that they frequently have more than they have reserved and that someone will have to get them at times. Since the resorts are now NS, I generally only request not to have a HA room but I would not complain if I had one assigned. It's part of the compromise of owning a timeshare. In this case they could simply had given it to you at check in and you would not have had a legitimate complaint though it would be reasonable to ask for something different though not to demand.

I thought it was a separate category, there's a checkbox on the online reservation system to search for accessible villas.

It seemed that way to me, too, when I noticed my reservation had been changed. But I didn't get a definitive answer from member services when I asked, so I am assuming nothing has changed and it is not a separate category.

I don't think it is a separate category, but the check box will help insure that you get one if you need it. Basically they assign them to people that need them, but if there are extras, someone has to get them because they are, legally, part of DVC and are included in the number of points sold for the resort. Resorts are required by the ADA to have a certain percentage of HA rooms. If Disney did not include those rooms in the point count, they could lose literally a million dollars in DVC sales. In essence, they'd have to hold all points represented by those units as part of the reserve for repairs...and still, if a regular unit needed repair, someone would be placed in an HA unit.
A one bedroom HA unit is OK with me because there is still a jetted tub (except for one unit at AKV Jambo). But I prefer to not get an HA studio if I can help it. At OKW, unless the resort is very full, you can almost guarantee you'll not get a HA unit by requesting 2nd or 3rd floor. The only buildings with HA units on the upper floors are 62, 63 and 64, due to no elevators in the rest of the resort.

Just a note about speech or hearing handicapped rooms at BLT - I had one of these rooms and it is virtually identical to regular rooms. I would accept this type of room any day.

Not sure what it would look like at BWV - I've only once been offered a handicapped room at BWV, my home resort and I would have taken it had it not stunk because of a smoker.

Now, Hilton Head - I used to get stuck with handicapped studios all the time.

A law change created the separate category but they are allowed to put non-HC people in an HC room.

IMO they shouldn't move you to an HC room after you are assigned a regular room. To fix the problem, they probably moved someone else into that room without them knowing.

There is a good possibility that the room assigner at BWI made the switch.

It's separate from a HA direction but not the other way. So it's not seperate from the the standpoint of not getting one. Also, even booking categories aren't absolute. Often they will have to move those around. Again, part of the go with the flow portion of timeshares. Thos who aren't able to do so likely shouldn't play.

I just don't understand why you aren't told up front that the only villa left is a HA villa, would you like to book it? DVC obviously knows how many HA villas there are, and how many owners have requested one in the 11 - 7 month booking window. If there are HA villas left at the 7 month window, those trying to book the villas should be told up front that is the only type of villa left, and let them make the decision of booking it or not. It isn't rocket science, there should be a way to accomplish this in the booking process, and not have members being surprised right before check-in.
