Good morning all...

We own 200 AUG points.

We are considering another 200 points- APRIL USE YEAR.

If we need (for example) 10 Aug points and 20 April points for the last night, will DVC allow me to combine points from 2 different use years? (assuming that the reservation is less than 7 months away)

My guess is that I will need to transfer or "rent" points from one contract to the other.

If I need to "transfer points" from one contract to the other, is there a fee?

Thanks for your help!

As long as you are under the 7 month window you can use all of your pts for any reservation.
There is no charge for combining or transfering pts with in your own contracts.

You cannot directly combine points from two different contracts having different use year months to make a single reservation.

Example: A villa will cost 30 points for 1-night. You cannot use 10 points from one use year and 20 from another to make that reservation.

There are two different ways however to use two different use years.

1. Transfer points from one use year to the other. Example: Transfer 10 points from one use year to the other one that has 20 points. Once transferred, the first use year has 0 points, and the other has 30 points. You can then make a reservation using those 30 points.

2. Suppose you want to make a 5-day vacation that costs 100 points (20 points per night). One use year has 40 points remaining and the other has 60 points remaining. You make two reservations, the first for 2-nights using 40 points, and the other for 3-nights using the 60 points. You then link the reservations so it becomes a single 5-night stay.

Note in the above example if you had 100 points split as 45 points in one use year and 55 in the other, you could not use menthod 2 but would have to use method 1. Trying to use method 2 you would reserve 2-nights from the 45 point account, leaving 5-points left over. You could only reserve 2 more nights from the 55 point account (use 40-points, leaving 15 points left over) This is because you cannot combine points from two accounts (that's because they're two separate use year months), into a reservation for a single day.

Note all of the above does not apply if you have the same use year month. When having only one use year month, it's all the same contract, an original and add-on's. (When purchased from Disney directly).

Wow, thanks for the prompt responses.

It seems that other than keeping track of two different banking schedules, two different use years is not a big deal.

As long as there is no fee for combining or transfering points.

Caskbill, I will probably use option one for our next vacation, then alternate contracts (banking and borrowing) and treat them independently. (One is OKW, the other is VWL- so every other year we will go to OKW, alternating with VWL)

Thanks again! If anyone has more to add, please feel free!

Technically you will not be able to combine points other than physically transferring or linking reservations. DVC will at times be more flexible with multiple contracts of a single owner allowing transfers of banked or borrowed points. If it's the same resort, it is easier if they are the same use year. If it's different resorts, there is little advantage other than simplicity. Good luck.

Ok,

Dean- let's say I am planning a trip that requires 200 points and I only have 180 points available...

If I search these boards to rent 20 points from another owner, must these points come from an owner with the same use year or same home resort? (my guess is no)

Because, If I own two different use years, it is as though I am TWO DISTICNT OWNERS- my guess is that I can rent points to myself.

You are two different owners in many ways as far as DVC is concerned. You could transfer points from one contract to another but this is a tricky issue. If the transferred points are a different use year, that's OK as long as both your points and the transferred points are good when you want them. If you are looking at reserving a home resort, the points will need to be the same use year to use them at 11 months out.
