Renting questions from a DVC owner

I am considering renting some points I have at both the BCV and the BWV, but they are for the April 2006 use yr.

When would you suggest trying to rent these? I am not willing to borrow for a rental, so when would you start trying?

I am mostly interested in transfering points, could that be done before April 2006 or do you have to wait until the current use year has started to transfer points?

If I transfer points do they retain their home resort? In other words, if I transfer BCV points to an OKW owner can they make BCV reservations at 11 months?

For straight rentals, you should book reservations after April 1, 2006. It is extremely risky to borrow points to rent, as you apparently already know.

For transfers, you can't borrow and transfer, but you can transfer next year's points and the recipient can borrow them from themselves. I know, that makes no sense, but them's the rules. So you could transfer your 2006 points now if you chose to.

As Bicker said, they are supposed to retain their home resort, use year, etc. However, the inability of the DVC computers to actually do what the rules say is a constant source of amusement. If the renter is going to use your BCV points to make a BCV ressie at the 11-month window, they will have to ensure that the points retain their characteristics like they're supposed to. From what I understand, that requires MS to do a manual override of the computer system to be sure everything is the way it should be.

However, recipients cannot borrow the points you transfer to their acct. The only thing they can do with them is bank them.

Thanks for clearing that up. The more I read the transfer rules, the more confused I get.
