Hey yall. We've never stayed on site but I read somewhere about 'Renting" someones DVC.

How does this work? And would any of you be interested in renting it to us?

THanks!

You are right that Disney Vacation Club points are the best way to go to Disneyworld and stay in A+ accomodations. Basically how it works is.... Each DVC member buys a timeshare that allows them so many points per year. For example, you may buy a DVC membership that allows 150 pts. per year. Each member buys into a specific resort but points can be used at any resort. There are certain restrictions that apply to each member. But, for the most part, if the reservations are made enough time in advance you can stay at just about any Home away from Home resort you want. That's where the points come in. Go to the points chart on this web site to see which resorts require which amount of points for a specific time of year. Hence, your point total for your vacation. Most points will rent around $10 or $11 dollars per point and the reservation is made by the member in your name. You are sent the reservation by the member and all you do is show up. Of course you pay the member for the points. We rented points last year at Old Key West. It was the easiest thing we have ever done. We loved it so much that we bought a timeshare while in Orlando. Our home resort is Saratoga Springs. If you check Disneyworld.com and see the per night rate on these rooms and then compare to what you are paying for the points, the savings are phenomenal. I have 50 pts. to rent. That would get you Sun. thru Thurs. (6/5-6/9) at $10 per point. If you stay on Fri. night that will be another 24 pts. you will need. A suggestion....we do this every time we go. Stay at a value resort (around $88 per night) the first night you arrive (ex. Sat. night)then move over to the Home away from Home resort the following night. Or stay in the value resort on Fri night before you leave. You will save a ton of money and the value resorts are nice. If you have any questions just email me at cjjecho9@wmconnect.com. Chris

We've always stayed at the Marriott Grand Vista down near sea World.

Why should we stay at the disney sites? I mean, what are the advantages? We'll be traveling with out any kids. I'm not questioning disney LOL I'm just curiosu what the benefits are. It would roughly be $500 + one night somewhere else OR... $140 at the Marriott for the week..... so I'm kind of curious what will we gain.

I hope this came out right LOL

Husbands dad has a time share with ummm... Club sunterra? But we used it to exchange through interval and we got the week for $129 actually.

I can't see paying the $400 extra dollars to stay on site.... I'm just so envious of the DVC owners LOL

Early open hours for resort guests.
The use of Disney transportation - your right there! Easier to go back and forth to your room - I have little ones so this makes a difference for me.
And I cook (I know - cook on vacation? I like to cook!) when I'm there - with DVC I always get at lest a 1 bedroom with full kitchen - saves $$$ on eating out everymeal! But at the price your getting at the Marriott I'm not certain any of this is enough of an advantage???

Well, sounds like you are using your other timeshare privilege + $129 to get a week at Marriott. So you should factor in the cost of that privilege when you calculate the total cost. Say, if you spend several hundred dollars more to rent from DVC, then you (or your husband's dad) can have a separate vacation at sunterra (or wherever). But if you don't expect to be able to use the sunterra thing, then personally I would take the $129 deal.

But there are always people who insists to stay on site for whatever cost, for the convenience. This is especially useful with little kids. Oh, staying on site also maximizes the use of Disney parks (sometimes they open an hour early for on site guests, free parking, free transportation through the resort, etc.) If you have only, say, 4 days, and you want to see all the parks, you'll see more of Disney by staying on site.

So your decision will basically come down to your situation. What you want to do and see (Disney only or outside of Disney), how important is convenience, whether you plan to have another vacation to use the sunterra club privilege, etc.

I guess since it's his dads time share...

We'd be silly to stay on Disney. For the $129 for the week it's a steal.

We are going alone. no kids. Just as a coupe. Wooo hooo!

I booked the room at the Marriott but thanks for the information!
