My parents are visiting WDW for the first time in 20 years. They are having a good time, but this afternoon somebody swiped my mother's purse from the bathroom counter when she was turned around.

It obviously could have been prevented with a little more caution, and luckily she only lost $80 and her license, but just thought I'd remind everyone that the bad stuff can still happen in the Disney bubble

Well if they stole her license that means they know her address and that she's not home. Might want to alert her neighbors to look out just in case.

Good idea, luckily they are across the country so no big risk

Well that stinks. Sorry that happened. Hopefully she talked to security, though they probably can't do anything.

Most likely they took the money and stashed the purse somewhere. It happened to me once at a grocery store, just my wallet and it was found thrown into a produce counter. Of course the money was gone but at least I got my ID cards back.

There was also a gift card, but luckily it was reported stolen before it was used so the amount was fully recovered.

The biggest issue is without the $80 they will not be able to buy a bowl of cereal at BOG breakfast tomorrow. (I hope my parents never read this)

this is what i was thinking too.

Did you fly to Orlando? I know the TSA has procedures for dealing with lost ID. It may mean you need to get to the airport a little earlier.

I lost my wallet, with my driver's license in it, about a year ago at WDW. It was the day before we left, so we didn't have time to do much about it, and I didn't have any other form of TSA approved ID with me. After making some inquiries about what to do, we were told to go through the TSA line as usual and tell the agent who checks IDs that mine had been lost. He called over a supervisor, who questioned me a little and looked at the other things I had with my name on them (credit cards, AAA card, etc). I then had to go through "enhanced screening," which involved an incredibly thorough pat-down and an extensive hand search of my purse and carryon and everything in them, including having everything, including my shoes, swabbed for explosive residue. It probably took about 20-25 minutes for the whole process, and it wasn't bad at all. Everyone involved was professional and courteous. We've learned from the experience, and we always bring out passports with us now as a back up, and we just lock them in the hotel's room safe during the vacation.

An act like that can ruin a vacation! Just terrible! I hope they find whoever did this.
