I just looked at the price per point with Disney and OUCH!!!! I mean I guess if I wanted the points TODAY there is an advantage. I don't think we pay closing costs either to add on. I can't remember. Is there any other advantage?????
Points purchased direct (new memberships or add-ons) can be used for Disney Resort Hotels, Disney Cruises, Adventures by Disney and the Concierge Collection. Points purchased resale after 3/21/2011 can only be used for DVC Resorts and RCI Exchanges.
You want to buy Aulani or even VGC and you can't find a resale contract anywhere or even one to match your UY.
I agree with you unless you have to have the points now to make a reservation or you can't get the points via resale, I can't see any reason why you'd buy direct. The price difference is just too great. And if you want to make an exchange how often would that be? You might get a better price paying cash for a DCL cruise anyway. You can even do the DCL member cruise by paying cash.
You can get points into your account faster, that might be one reason you would buy direct. If you plan a cruise and want to use your points, that might be a reason to buy direct. If you use Concierge Collection you might want to buy direct. BUT If you want to save money then buy RESALE.
YEP I just don't see a valid reason really. Now I do have one other question. If you buy through Disney, say Sept. and your UY is Oct. Will you get 2010 points and then get your 2011 on Oct. 1st?? Still not really a great deal if you do.

Yes, you will. But, I agree, it still doesn't make it worth it--unless you want such a small amount--like a 25 or 30 point contract--that the difference is easier to swallow and you need them right away.

There really isn't any good financial reason for most resorts so the only non-financial reason is because you are tired of waiting to find a resale contract.
Most likely not. If you're a current member it's $142/pt and you pay closing. You can probably find a 50 pt contract for $100/pt and probably less. That's at least $2,000 difference or more.

Yes, you will get what you pay for. That's NOT a deal; you're buying in the 2010 Use Year and you're getting the 2010 points.
If they let you bank those 2010 points, that's a legitimate benefit, but almost certainly not enough of a benefit to pay what you'd have to pay direct.
Your mileage may vary, but my experience has been that almost every time I have really wanted something TODAY I found out the light at the end of the tunnel was an oncoming train.
I have no sympathy for anyone who purchases DVC (or anything else) to get it TODAY.

I have added on twice through Disney, ( 98/pt, it's a little too rich for me now so I'm glad I did it when I did) I have a December use year and I always add in November just for this reason. They let you bank them and you don't have the first 10 months of dues for them.
