Remembering extinct foods

No one has mentioned Spoon Candy! We used to beg mom to buy it. We also liked the animal shaped poptarts that oozed chocolate when they were warm.

One other person mentioned the little frozen donuts you baked in the oven. I can still taste them!

I used to get something i think was called a wafflewich??? It was ice cream sandwiched in between two waffles....YUM! Kind of like the cookie ice cream sandwich. Those were sooooo good and i have not seen them since i was a teen. over 20 years ago! I also adored Jello pudding pops, especially the ice coating on the pop. Yum!!!!

The last time I saw those was a few years back at a mini golf place in Ocean City Maryland. Kemps sells neopolitan slices of ice cream that would work great for these if only they would sell the waffles to go with it. Frozen waffles just are not the same for these.

I also loved Strawberry Shortcake Cereal. I can still remember the commercial with Strawberry Shortcake talking to the sun and she would say "It's berry delicious!" at the end.

OMG, I looooooooooved Strawberrry Shortcake cereal!

I also loved King Vitamin cereal. And Cookie Crisp used to have several flavors of their cereal...I loved the vanilla cookies.

Vienetta...I loved that ice cream. I would get the chocolate and since I was a mean mommy the kids were not allowed to eat any of it.

One thing I really miss is the Ragu Chicken Tonight sauces. We used to get the country french and everyone in the family loved it. My kids were still young then but they still remember it and talk about how good it was.

I loved this-Country French:thumbsup2 I remember it vividly, and it made me feel like such a gourmet!

Hmm...there's so many! Let's see:

Hidden Treasures Cereal - I loved that stuff!

the old All Sport - They have it in Florida, but it tastes very different now, and not as good.

Kool Aid - Pink Swimmingo flavor

Disney popsicles - the ones that were in the shape of Mickey, Goofy, etc.

Taco Bell Taco Supreme Doritos

I miss the lemonade gum, too!
And the waxy bottle that held some kind of kool-aide-liquid in them. You'd bite off the top of a waxy bottle, drink the juice, then chew on the wax for a little while. Way cool!
And Priazzo's from Pizza Hut. Mmmmm. One piece was a meal. Kind of like a Chicago-style pizza, with crusts on top and bottem and lovely meat, cheese and sauce on the inside. Don't know why they took them off the menu? :confused3
And Marathon bars. Remember how cool they were that they were braided?

candy cigarettes...

Mikeeee

I loved candy cigarettes! I went into a candy shoppe (yes, shoppe) near my house a year or so ago and they actually still have them there. I was shocked!

this is a fun thread. of course, now I am craving chocodiles...

OMG, I looooooooooved Strawberrry Shortcake cereal!

You can still buy it in VA. I don't know about everywhere but I used to see it at safeway and was like wth is that because I never saw it before.

I have the chicken tonight commercial stuck in my head now.

Does anyone remember Vienetta ice cream desserts? Those were so good!

Not in any way trying to smoosh this in your face, because personally, I thought Vienetta was way too sweet, but they sell it here. Just one plane ticket and you can have some. ;) Of course, not the same brand, but it looks exactly the same. Different flavors too.:thumbsup2

I haven't read the whole thread, but I remember Mug-O-Lunch....anyone else remember these? I think it was macaroni and cheese, and you added boiling water and it cooked in the mug. This was before the microwave oven...:rolleyes1 (mid-1970's). It was one of the things I was allowed to make without my mother being around. The noodles never quite got soft, and the cheese sauce was kind of watery. :scared:

You should have gotten your mom to demostrate again. You were making it wrong.....sounds like too much water, or impatience ;). Our noodles were always cooked properly and the sauce was never watery. Did you put some plastic wrap over the mug as the noodles "cooked"?

ETA: I think there was also a spaghetti one and I think a beef one. Does anyone remember?

Just another reason to someday travel to Italy. ;)

I'm sure nobody else has even heard of this, but I loved Junket. You bought a package of little tablets, dissolved them in milk by heating it, added a little nutmeg and cinnamon and then chilled it. It made a really good pudding and my mom made it all the time.

Teresa

I remember junket, Jelly 1-2-3, Jiffy pop popcorn that you heated on the stove, Shake a pudding, and golden egg custard.

oh my... there are so many things that I miss!

- Crispy Critters and Strawberry Shortcake cereal
- when fruit rollups came in actual flavors other than the boring strawberry and wacky tri-color thing they have now. The apple was the best!!
- French Toast Crunch. It was like cinnamon toast crunch, but a million times better!!!!
- purplesaurus rex Kool-aid
- at holiday time they had an ice cream treat, it was a gingerbread man with ice cream in between. I remember that it was in a green box. I loved those!

How about Sizzlean? I remember that because it was one of the only things that I knew how to cook when I was younger. It was like bacon, but it wasn't. I'm not sure what it was that I was eating. It was good, though.
"Don't just sizzle fat..sizzlean!" LOL Totally remember that commercial, never had it though.

Also made by Keebler, but I can't remember the name. They were mini bite-sized chocolate chip cookies that were filled with fudge.
.

Magic Middles?? They were so good!!

You can still buy it in VA. I don't know about everywhere but I used to see it at safeway and was like wth is that because I never saw it before.

I tried it in my 20s when I saw that they started selling it again. And, like everyone else says, when they bring something back, it doesn't taste the same. King Vitamin is definitely not the sugar bomb it was back in the day. And it tastes lousy.

ETA: Remember Halfsies cereal? Not that I liked it or anything, but my mom used to buy this crap:
http://www.inthe80s.com/cereal/halfsies0.shtml :crazy2:

when I was little I had pink tic tacs.. They were sooo yummy also the gum that would squirt juice.

My favorite gum was the kind that came in Topps baseball cards. I don't think they put gum in baseball cards anymore. It was one thin strip of gum dusted with what tasted like sawdust. But we all loved it anyway, knowing a fruity surprise awaited after getting through that initial barrier.

I'm trying to lose the ten pounds I put on over the holidays. So naturally I'm having some pretty intense food fantasies(don't ask). I was thinking back to some of my favorite comfort foods that are no more.

Does anyone remember Hostess Chocodiles? I loved them. They were like Twinkies, but with a hard chocolate shell. I really miss them. Apparently, they are only sold on the west coast:confused3. What's that all about?

A cereal I miss is Smurf Berry Crunch. Next to Crunchberries, this was my favorite. Smurf Berry Crunch went extinct around the same time that Saturday morning cartoons went extinct. How sad:sad1:.

Anyone else have happy memories of foods that no longer exist?

OP, I read your heading and the first thing I thought of was entering the thread to mention Chocodiles. I've even done some research on them. There are those out there that will even mail them to you.:rolleyes1
