If anyone is going to be in the WDW area this Friday, May 1st you are invited to join us at the Relay for Life of Lake Buena Vista!

The Relay is held at RCID Firestation #4, which is located at 1920 East Buena Vista Drive, just past of Downtown Disney and across the road from SSR.

The event starts with the Opening Ceremony at 4pm, which will be immediately followed by the Survivor and Caregiver laps. All Survivors and Caregivers are welcome to come and be honored. (Anyone who has been diagnosed with cancer is recognized as the Survivor)

1pm - Registration Table opens (Relay dollars to spend at booths will be sold)
4pm Opening Ceremony, followed by Survivor & Caregiver Laps
5:30-6pm Karate Demonstration
7pm-8pm Scottish Dancers
9pm Luminaria Ceremony (Luminaras will remain lit all through the night)
10pm Spirit Games begin and run all night, starting with the Miss Relay game where male team members in drag, compete to see who to collect the most dollar bills. (Guests who wish to participate in any of the spirit games should stop by the DJ booth.)

At 9pm will be the very moving Luminaria Ceremony, where we take a moment to stop and remember those who have fought cancer and the caregivers who fought by their side. Luminarias In Honor of or In Memory of can be purchased at the event and will be placed around the track.

Now the fun part! There will be entertainment and teams will be hosting all kinds of booths. Here are some of the things teams are planning to host or sell:

Food: Barbecue, Candied nuts, Chicken and sausage gumbo and nachos with cheese. Cakes, brownies, Rice Krispy treats,

Raffles (Flat screen TV raffle is drawn early in the evening )

Silent auction (gift certificates, jewelry, etc.)

A Jail and Bail.

And the people who bring you the annual Flower and Garden Festival will be bring back their popular plant sale! :flower3:

Teams are comprised of people from various businesses in Lake Buena Vista. A few of the teams are from Disney Cruise Line, World of Disney, the Doubletree Guest Suites, Reedy Creek Improvement District, Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress, and many more!

If you are in the area, come on out! Parking will be available.

Since I've only posted to this board, I felt funny posting this on any of the other boards here. If you think it will be of interest to anyone else, please feel free to copy this post to another board or pass it along to a friend.

If you'd like to sponsor me, you can click here, but what I'd really love is if people could come out and join us!

I received permission from Pete (a few weeks ago) prior posting this.

I probably passed them dozens of times during the night. The Relay went really well and there was a surprise of a small fireworks display at the end of the Luminaria ceremony.

I think we were up to 24 teams this year, and there seemed to be a lot of folks who stayed up all night.

The new Sweet Tomatoes opening at Crossroads donated and served the food at the Geekabytes site. The most popular raffles appeared to be the flat screen TV, Wii gamesystem and Tupperware set. I kid you not!

Our site had braughts and the roast pig. Horiticulture was next to us, and used elements from previous Flower and Garden Festivals to decorate their site. I got the most amazing two-tone African Violets from them.

The Survivor's Dinner was donated by Carriera's in Dr Phillips. Survivors were given t-shirts and goodies bags, while Caregivers got special commemorative pins.

And the big upset....the Wilderness Region won the Spirit Award!

HOW COOL! Our relay season has started as well here in the NE. I work for ACS and love WDW, so what a great idea to have both at the same place. Wish I could make it...good luck!
