Regis & Kelly are in WDW today and I'm sure they were asked to promote ME. Regis just said you get off the plane and go to your resort and your luggage beats you there! I really don't think that's the case is it? Now millions of people are going to be expecting that! Oops!

I was surprised that some of those in the audience didn't jump up and start screaming out the real facts!!! I know I sat there and just yelled..'Your luggage gets to the resort BEFORE you do?? I don't think so Reeg!!' I can just see it now. It's bad enough listening to the ME bashing but with the wrong facts out there.... :earseek:

I'll bet Regis was working from Disney publicity. I have signed up for DME for two trips already and both times the CM told me that my luggage was likely to get to the resort before we do. So I am guessing that this is how they expect DME to work once they work out the start-up kinks.

My Auntie arrived with an assistant (Auntie is developmentally disabled - an amazing 64 yr old w/Down syndrome) on 5/7 and used DME. They had not received the special tags and had trouble figuring things out when they got to the airport. Auntie has some mobility issues as well now (bionic knees and hips) and could not board the first two buses going to OKW bcs no little stool to help her with that big first step into the bus. Nevertheless, they got from the airport to OKW fine on the third bus and checked in and had their bags waiting for them in the room by the time they arrived. Total elapsed time from the plane touching down at MCO to resting in their room was just over two hours, even with all the complications!

As ME gets all the bugs worked out, I would not be surprised at all if baggage started beating the guests to the resort. So what if it does? The key is how quickly it gets to my room after I do! Being "at the resort" does not mean "in my room."

Your luggage IS supposed to be in your room before you are. We are coming in at 10:10 PM. I called and asked how late would they knock with our luggage because if it is THAT late then they can just hang on to it until the next morning. The CM said our luggage should beat us to the room. I said "Are you serious?" She said "That's what they are telling us." So there you have it.

BUT as someone on another thread pointed out, this means your room is pre-determined. If you don't like where they put you it will be a big pain in the butt to change it.

Maybe having the luggage beat the guests to their rooms was the reason why that one driver drove off property and passed Pop Century 3 times during his convoluted route!

I bet you Regis's luggage got to his room before he did.

Tyler already responded to my post. Even if your room is pre-assigned your luggage won't be put in your room until you check in. They don't want the front desk changing your room and having your luggage delivered to the wrong room.

Sounds like a little bit of exaggeration, Disney may be assuming your room won't be ready and your luggage will be delivered while you're at a theme park.

There are no preassigned rooms. I think Tyler said that the luggae might beat you to the resort, but no luggage goes into a room that has not been checked into.

A lot of rooms will be pre-blocked, HOWEVER, that's no guarantee that the pre-blocked room WILL be the room they get. When I've worked front desk, there have been MANY instances where I've had to change a pre-blocked room assignment because the pre-blocked rooms did not meet the guests needs or desires.

Tyler--Real life answer, now that most guests are using the bar coded luggage tags how long does it seem to be taking for the luggage to make it to the resort and then to our room?

Disney says it'll beat us to our room :rotfl2: But some guests posted it taking 6-8 hours.

In regards to the luggage, I don't know. What I do know is that for the past week, they've been processing luggage by hand, without the computers or scanners. That's what's caused most of the delays. They should be getting the computers up and running very very soon, if not already. That will speed up the luggage deliveries significantly.

When has Disney ever said that luggage will be waiting in a guest's room, before the guest gets there?

Here's an example of what Disney says:

Upon arrival at Orlando International Airport, you will be greeted by a Disney representative who will direct you to the Disney Airport Welcome Center in Terminal A.

You will then depart for your Disney Resort in a complimentary motor coach while your luggage goes straight from the plane to your room.

Check-in to your Disney Resort, and your luggage will be delivered to your room.

As far as I know, Disney has never said that your luggage will be waiting for you in your room. Even if the luggage truck arrives at the hotel before your Magical Express motor coach, I'm sure the bell services staff will wait until they know you've accepted a particular room.

In fact, I'd like to think that I will arrive at my resort before my luggage. Ideally, my Magical Express express motor coach will depart from the airport while they're still unloading the luggage from the aircraft (and while other passengers on the aircraft are still waiting at baggage claim).

Your luggage should be delivered to your room some time after you check in. My guess it will usually take less than an hour, sometimes only a few minutes if the bell services staff isn't busy. (I know it often took far longer during the first few days, when Disney failed to mail luggage tags properly, but that problem should be corrected soon.) Magical Express pays the bell services gratuities, so the guest doesn't need to hang around the roon waiting for bell services. It's not a big deal, even if it takes an hour (unless it's late at night).

Some of the promotional materials and emails said that. Regis said that on TV, read the first post in this thread.

Most of us accepted that claim as hyperbole. I have no idea where in the airport out luggage gets pulled or how big the trucks are. Luggage frequently gets to the carosel before we do. It wouldn't be a reach to think the luggage truck might leave the airport before we do. Look at how many flights land in MCO. About 20 flights are landing tonight between 6:58 and 7:05. Probably enough to fill at least one luggage truck. Trucks have to be arriving on a regular basis to handle outgoing checked luggage. I'd think those trucks will be going out even if they're only partially full.

I guess I've missed anything from Disney that says that luggage will be waiting in a guest's room, before the guest gets there. Sure, we could consider Regis to be a Disney spokesman when he's doing publicity for Disney, but the premise of this thread is that Regis's statement does not accurately describe Magicaal Express -- neither how it's working today, nor how it's supposed to work.

I suppose the original press release from Disney could be interpreted as saying that the bags would appear in the room while the guests are still in the lobby completing their check-in, thus beating the guests to their room:

Beginning May 5, 2005, guests of Disney hotels using Disney's Magical Express service can check their bags at their hometown airport, bypass baggage claim at Orlando International Airport (OIA) and board state-of-the-art motor coaches to the Walt Disney World Resort -- as their bags "magically" appear in their room upon check in.

But I haven't seen anything from Disney that suggests luggage would be placed into pre-blocked rooms.

My guess is the DME luggage works the same way as value resorts "Luggage Assistance" service. Luggage gets dropped off at the resort, and logged in. The dispatcher then goes down the list, and continously looks up the reservations. When a guest is inhoused, they flag the luggage for delivery on the next run. If the guest is placed into a room that is not yet available, they continously check the room, and when it does become clean, the luggage gets flagged for delivery. The key to the system is the dispatcher has to be on the ball about dispatching the rooms, *AND* they've got to have the staffing to be able to get it all up. With a good dispatcher, and proper staffing, luggage will often times beat the guest to thier rooms. How? Rooms are often times inhoused midway through the check in process. So you have time still at the front desk. Then you have the walk time for the guest to find the room, if they go to the room first, without stopping by to look at things.

Actually, Regis said that "somehow" your bags will "preceed you and beat you to the hotel" - I thought it was pretty funny when he said it - thought he'd be starting a lot of trouble for ME, but it looks like he was just pitching the correct ME 'line' - let's hope for the best !! :smooth:
