Will the BC give us a refridge to hold my grandmas insulin or will they hold it?

If I am not mistaking, I believe I have read several posts where people have said the resorts will give you a refrigerator for free if one is definately needed for special medications such as insulin.

I would just call and ask. I am sure Disney goes out of their way to accomodate people in instances like this.

My DH and one of our DSs are diabetic. When you make your reservation, have them note that you need a refrig for insulin...that way you'll get one for sure. They usually have not charged us but when they first went from free refrigs for anyone who requested them to having a charge, we were charged on one or two stays. They will also refrigerate your insulin for you if you checkin before your room is ready..at least at the Poly.

My son is Diabetic and needs insulin and when I make my reservations I tell them that My son is diabetic and I need a refrigirator for his Insulin. Some times they will tell you it will cost $$ a day for a fridge in a room, but when I check I tell the person at the front desk the same thing and they will give it to you at no charge.

If you tell them its just for medicine they will tell you you can store it at the front desk free of charge or rent you a fridge at $$ a day. Make sure you tell them it for insulin and you are travling with a Diabetic.

My hubby is an insulin dependent, and we have always requested and gotten a fridge for NO extra charge. We just tell them at check-in that we need the fridge for his insulin and by the time our room is ready, the fridge is there. Another wonderful thing that Disney does for their guests.

I'm going to move this over to the DISabilities board. They will be able to tell you for sure how to handle this..

They used to give free refrigerators, but they don't always do this anymore. We have heard stories both ways. If they won't give you a free fridge, they will store it for you if necessary, or you can request an in-room fridge.

If your room has a stocked minibar, be careful about moving things around to store medications there. Some Disney properties have sensors on their minibars, if an item is moved (whether it is used or not) then you get charged. Be sure to ask.

WDW always used to provide free refrigerators for medication. Then, about 2 years ago, the DIS started getting pretty consistent reports that people were being charged, even if they said it was for medication and even if they went thru WDW RESORTS/SPECIAL RESERVATIONS

Many people who reported being charged had previously gotten the fee waived. When they asked during another trip, they were told the policy had changed because too many people were requesting free refrigerators. Several people were told that insulin didn't need refrigeration, so refrigerators would not be provided! The suggested alternative was to keep the medication behind the front desk at the resort, even if it meant several trips per day to the desk.

I think WDW started charging everyone because they were getting lots of requests, including some people who did not have medication, but said they did (I've seen that "hint" posted as a way to avoid paying). Now that word is out that refrigerators are not free, WDW may be getting more lenient again.

So, try asking. If they say no, ask to speak to someone higher up. You could also try the Special Reservations phone number.

When i made my reservations for june i asked them if i could get a sharp container for my room for my sons needles that he takes growth hormones shots and they said Yes and they asked if we needed a fridge and we asked how much and she said no charge since it was medically needed. and she said wait a minute and talked to special request and got us one, Well see if it's there when we go., I will call and try.

It would be nice if Disney did not charge for refrigerators for medical needs. A friend has meds she needs refirgerated. She has traveled to resorts in the Northeast that have never charged her. She was surprised that Disney did.
