Yes, colleges are required to provide accommodations for learning disabilities. It is actually a law.

I am late to the party! I watch all the housewives shows. I love reading everyone's comments on the NJ ladies. That fight was so ridiculous.

Huh. I didn't know that. I assumed that public schools (K-12) were required to provide accomodations because kids are required to go to school. Since higher ed. is optional, I didn't think there were an laws for undergrad/grad schools.

Or is just public universities?

Learn something new everyday. Can you point me to the law? Thx

I can't help with a law (I did not google search it though, I am sure it will pop up if you are truly interested) but I have seen even at my VA college instances on exams/finals in the instructions that you have X minutes to complete the test, unless you have an arrangement made for learning disabilities and the prof has been made aware of that. I can't remember the exact verbage, but I thought it was cool.

I wouldn't say higher ed is truly optional, the way the world has changed it's hard to be able to support yourself (and especially if you go on to have a family!!) on a high school education- I think it's great that colleges/universities do all they can to make higher education possible for more people.

This doesn't seem right to me. I mean, if you flunk out of law school, even if you do have a learning disability, maybe you just shouldn't be a lawyer. People's lives are in your hands in a lot of cases. Also, med school. I just think those aren't really professions for those who cannot handle the course work in school, for whatever reason.

Now in Albie's case, I doubt any reputable University will take him unless he takes the required 2 years and does something meaningful with them. That rule is in place for a reason.

I didn't mean because he has a learning disability he shouldn't be a lawyer! What I meant was if he cannot get the grades he shouldn't be one. I was typing that in a rush because I have screaming kids here, sorry for the misunderstanding.

It sounds like your husband has ovecome his LD -- like many people do, and he deserves the success he has earned.

I have been thinking about similar situations with learning disabilities and giving kids accommodations throughout their schooling career...then these kids enter the work force and are slapped in the face with cold, hard reality. I don't think a law firm that HIRES Albie will give him extra time to read something that has a critical deadline, etc. I understand the need for 504's and IEP's - it helps to level the playing field in school...but what about life afterwards? I know that accommodations are provided in certain situations, but it is less likely for an average employer to give you extra time on an assignment, preferential seating, etc. At some point as adults, like it or not, it's make it or break it time. Poor Albie! :sad1:

Ashley could give any of the "Iamprivilegedanddon'treallyhavetoworkdoI?" brats from the other Real Housewives franchises (like, oh, I don't know Weasel-face boy from RHoOC?) a run for their money. I almost want to reach through that TV screen and slap some sense into that girl.
And Jacqueline just fed into the situation... The way she & Mrs. Juicy ran after Danielle, J yelling about that 9mm pistol? WELL, Miss Brain Surgeon of 1989, if you REALLY think that, WHY in the world would you run after someone guilty of such an act?!? HOW do you know she won't get her gun out and start pistol-whipping YOU?

Yeah, I think Kelly and Ashley should become BFFs. It could be called "The Real Snotty Whackadoos of the Northeast".

agnes!

I guess I see J (I saw J because I can't spell her name) differently. I felt like she did not want any of this to happen. If my friend went nuts and started running after someone I would have runned after them also to make sure everything was ok. And I think she stood in front of D's car because she did not want her to get out and cause any more drama or have Teresa or Ashley come back over there. I probably would have stood there too so D would Not get out of her car.

Teresa said on the after show that she wanted to confront D about the finaincle rumors that she said D was spreading about her. She said the camera's were not with her until J tried to find her. So when D did bring it up that is when Teresa went nuts.

I think D is crazy. I would be scared to death that she would try and hurt me or my family and I would have NOTHING to do with her and I can't believe that Bravo would allow her to be filmed. I would not put it past her to put a hit out on one of them but then if she did that she could not play the "victim" role.

On a side not, she looks like a skelton with rabbit teeth when she talks. I don't find her attractive one bit!!

I can see what you're saying about the friendship bit but the problem for me is that Jacqueline was yelling insults at Danielle as she ran after her new BFF Teresa, by the end all of that running and screaming looked an awful lot like a mob. Why didn't they just just STOP. Don't get me wrong, I'm no fan of Danielle, but I don't think Teresa is mentally or emotionally stable either.

I'm sure that Country Club is just ecstatic over this whole mess. Go to a fashion show! Get run over by screaming women! Hear swearing worthy of a sailor! Have the police show up in force!

Yeah, and I shouldn't speculate (but I am anyway, I know :rotfl:) but law may not be a good field for someone with a learning disability. But it can't hurt to try, IMO, it's not like they are hurting for money so the worst that happens if they are out the money, or he doesn't pass the bar, and he has to set a new goal for something else. For other fields that you need a college education for, someone with a LD may be able to work through that just by putting in extra time on the job (or at home) to compensate. Maybe a job that only requires 40-55 hours a week, but they put in 10 hours of their own time re-reading or whatnot to get deadlines done by when the employer wants them. There has to be something. I know for myself, I believe I have ADHD type tendencies because I have a hard time focusing sometimes in tests in lectures. I do use coping mechanisms, but it's only the environment, I am assuming when I get out of college I won't be sitting through lectures and taking tests all day. So no need to lock me up in the funny farm yet, I may be able to function in society somehow. :lmao:

Yes...of course people with learning disabilities can certainly function in all kinds of careers (including law). I work with someone with ADHD, and she is very successful. She has to make accommodations for herself in order to succeed - as it sounds like you do! They are not given to her in IEP form, and others are not expected to accommodate her. She has to figure out how to make it work on her own. Wishing you the best of luck during the remainder of your college career!

She already sued Ashley for the hair thing in the Spring-it went to court and Ashley had to pay a fine.

Is this a NEW charge?:confused3

Why is she suing Teresa? For being mean to her? I don't remember Teresa touching Danielle in any way.:confused3

That was the criminal charge against Ashley (assault, I think?) That was People v. Ashley.

This lawsuit is a civil case, where Danielle will be trying to get money for her physical and emotional "damages" from the incident.

Not defending Danielle by any stretch of the imagination, but Theresa "just wanted to say hello" - because she's a "nice person"?? Does she think the viewers are as dumb as she is?? Sorry, but this time it was
Theresa who stirred up the drama - and Jacqueline fed into it as well..

As for Ashley? Someone needs to kick her butt.. What a disrespectful, spoiled brat.. She's becoming quite the "Drama Queen" herself..:rolleyes1

The show certainly wasn't boring..:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

I agree she "hollared" out to her. It was not like the were standing somewhere & ended up face to face, then yes sometimes you say hi to be nice, cut tension, etc... I am sure the producers told her to make sure there was some kinda of exchange between them.

From my understanding Teresa went to talk to Danielle w/o camera's because she heard that Danielle was talking about Teresa's money issues around town. Teresa wanted to confront her and Jaqualine brought the camera's when she went looking for Teresa. I think when Danielle hit a nerve and Teresa knew she was talking when Danielle brought it up.

They all acted stupid and childish!!!

ITA ... and even if Teresa just wanted to confront Danielle one-on-one about her gossiping around town, did she really think that the Country Club was the place that she could really do it "privately" ...

It bewilders me as to why these women still even want to confront Danielle about anything anyway? :confused3 ... don't they realize that they are only feeding into Danielle's quest to extend her pathetic "15 minutes of fame" ... if I were Teresa, Jacqueline or Ashley I wouldn't give Danielle or her gossip any attention at all whatsoever ... but is this Teresa's, Jacqueline's, & Ashley's way of extending their "15 minutes" too?... they should just all grow up and take a page out of Caroline's & Dina's book, just stay away & ignore Danielle completely, period, and move on with their own lives ...

I agree with you, but if all of these woman take the high road, there is no show. Bravo doesn't want them to behave themselves - they want the drama.

Apparently, now, the Steve guy is filing suit against Danielle for defamation claiming she lied about the sex tape. Can this group get any worse?

http://www.okmagazine.com/2010/07/danielle-staub-sued-by-ex-over-sex-tape/

Danielle Staub, Real Housewives of New Jersey star, is being sued by her ex, Stephen Zalewski, for harassment and defamation of character regarding their sex tape.

According to Radar Online, in the suit being filed on Thursday in Morris County Superior Court in New Jersey, Stephen claims Danielle’s comments about the sex tape on the show are false.

During the “Play at Your Own Risk” episode of the Real Housewives of New Jersey, Danielle claims she was filmed without her knowledge or consent by Stephen.

However, his attorney, Nase Naumoski, tells Radar Online that Danielle not only knew about the tape, but she also filmed some of it herself and they have emails and texts that prove she knew about the tape.

“Any sex tape with Stephen in it was made with her bidding,” Naumoski said. “Danielle Staub constantly makes statements about my client that she knows are false & that continue to damage his reputation. We want to put a stop to it.”

And what does Stephen have to say on the matter?

“I have people come up to me in restaurants telling me I’m going to hell, I’m not a good person,” he told Radar Online. “I try to explain to people I didn’t do anything wrong. She would send me video texts of her playing with her self, I have nothing to do with that.”

“Basically I want her to stop lying and ruining people’s lives, she’s really out of her mind, there’s something wrong with her. She plays the victim and says everyone is out to get her, but it’s really the other way around.”
