I was able to practice, and again neither Button would become clickable so i has to close and reopen the app. Then no problem and was able to get 4 or 5 times in before changing to backups sometime a little after 8:01 for me.

I think I might try practicing waiting 3 seconds before clicking again- prior to a week or so ago I never had any problem not waiting but this is now the 3rd or 4th time I had issues while not waiting and clicking as soon as my iPhone time switched to 8:00.

same thing happened here in practice. Waited 3 seconds... nothing. Hard reset then got the red button. Seemed to take a while but would have got a regular BG

Welp. We failed (ish) at rope drop this morning. Made it into the park with 5 minutes to go. Got in line for Rock n Roller coaster. App wouldn't let me get a boarding group as people around me cheered and shouted progressively higher numbers. Closed the app, reopened, got 88 (backups). I was hoping to get much lower and leave a little after lunch, but it is what it is.

Today was the first time I have not had the button red when I tried it. My status was also not letting me join so I had to force close and restart. Still was able to join a group when I got it back up and the next try was in backups but could join.

Perhaps I am wrong on this one, but there does seem to be a strange "predictive" element to how long the boarding groups last in the morning, especially for the last few weeks. Perhaps they limit boarding passes for days they know up front will be problematic?

Just wanted to post our experience from Saturday (March 7). First, this is NOT recommended if it is your only DHS day! Saturday was our checkout day from Pop, but our flight wasn't until 9PM, so we packed up everything and took it to the Luggage Assistance. Since we didn't manage to get out of the room until a little after 7am, we assumed we really didn't have much hope of being to DHS by 8am (We rode RotR twice in January when we were at WDW for a family trip - this was just DH & I for a quick visit for Flower & Garden). We got in the Skyliner line right at 7:30 which was about the usual length for first thing in the morning. It's a longish line, but moves quickly once they open. We were getting off the Skyliner at DHS at 7:47. Very quick walk to bag check - through in just a few minutes and were scanning into the park at 7:54. Pulled out our phones as we walked over to Sunset and got into the ToT line - they had a queue setup out front. Both tried at 8 + a few seconds and I got us BG 44!

Obviously, we cut it REALLY close for boarding groups and I wouldn't recommend it if this is your only chance and you've never ridden - but I have seen questions about whether it is possible with the skyliner opening at 7:30 so I wanted to let people know that if everything works out perfectly for you, then yes, you can board the skyliner at opening and make it to DHS. LOL

Worked out to be a perfect morning at DHS. Crowds were decent and we only waited 17 minutes for ToT, then did Standby at TSM (19 minutes). We had our 3 FP+ (TSM, RnR & MFSR) and I think our boarding group was called around 11. We did StarTours after RotR & all our FP, so probably around noon with a 15 minute wait and then left to go have lunch at Epcot. We waited 2 hours on Friday night for MMRR - it was cute & fun, but NOT worth a long wait. Will use a FP in the future - we just didn't get a chance to get one for this trip since they were released only a couple weeks ago and were gone for our time frame in 20 minutes (while I was out at lunch!)

Here's my trip report from last week. We had three park days (Thursday 3/5 through Saturday 3/7). Our original plan had been to do DHS on Thursday, MK on Friday, and a mix of Epcot and AK on Saturday. We had some great RD luck on Friday and breezed through our MK must-dos and were able to do our Epcot visit on Friday afternoon, leaving us with another morning at DHS.

On Thursday, we walked from the Swan to DHS, leaving there about 6:45 and arriving about 7:00. We used the bag check to the far right and breezed through security. However, we ran into a snafu with our tickets when we entered and had to go to guest services. They resolved the problem and we were in the park by 7:20. Interesting side note - the CM at guest services suggested that anyone in our party who had a phone should try to use MDE to obtain a BG.

Since we had a FP for MFSR for later in the day, our strategy was to RD ToT and RnR. When we walked toward those ride, both already had pre-loaded lines. We waited in the line for ToT until opening. Opened MDE at 7:57 and waited. I was on an iPhone 6 with Verizon (four bars) and DW was on an iPhone 7 with ATT (four bars). Spent the downtime in line teaching a couple of folks on the strategies I've learned here for getting a BG. At 8:00:01 I tapped on the AT-AT picture and the red "Join Boarding Group" button was active. Tapped that, hit select all for our group, tapped again and was rewarded with BG 3!!! One of the people next to us couldn't get an active "Join Boarding Group" button, so I told him to close the app and relaunch. After that he was immediately able to get backup BG 81 (thankfully the ride performed well Thursday, so I'm pretty sure he was able to get on).

While we were waiting in line for ToT, CMs came through to let everyone know that the ride was down. At about 8:07 we received our notification for RotR with a one-hour return. We abandoned ToT and headed straight over to GE. RotR appeared to work great and we had an amazing experience on the ride! So thankful for everything I've learned on this thread.

Saturday morning for our bonus visit to DHS, we left the Swan at 6:30, arrived at 6:45, through security easily and no issues tapping into the park. We did notice that all three of our park days all four parks employed finger scans for entry. Without a FP for MFSR on Saturday, we decided we would try to RD it if the crowd outside GE wasn't too crazy. Getting to the park about 15 minutes earlier seems to have done the trick, as we were about 8 people back from the line of CMs holding the rope on Grant Avenue near Muppet Vision 3D.

Followed the same MDE strategy above and was able to get BG 4. Also helped a couple of families near us, and one got BG 13 and the other BG 44. With BG secured, we joined the RD crowd and headed into GE. The whole walk to MFSR was great with all the CMs lining the street and greeting us travelers. Had a great time of MFSR, then headed straight over to RotR for our second time. Still beyond amazing!

One thing that almost tripped me up is that the loudspeaker announcement that BGs were open started playing at about 7:59:30. It was so tempting to start tapping into the app once the announcement started, but I resisted and waited until 8:00:01.

Thanks again for all the advice on here that I've soaked up over the last few weeks in preparation for our trip.

My practice didn't go well today (again). I had the same issue of the button not turning red despite a couple hard resets. I would have gotten a backup group. I'm wondering if it wouldn't be a good idea to screenshot what's going on showing that it's after 8:00 and take it to GET hoping to be given a boarding group. Thoughts? My family wants to go on this ride so badly, but the app has been glitching for me about 50% of the times I practice! UGH.

I've seen a lot of mention about the need to "force close" the app on the board when running into trouble when not seeing an red "Join Boarding Group" button after park opening, does this mean double tapping the bottom button on iPhone (I think it's the home button), or are you actually signing out on the MDE app and signing in again? I think what I am really asking is, what's your quickest way if at park open to get back in if having app issues and trying again with an iPhone 7?

Today's app experience that many of us seem to have experienced was a lot like what happened to me when in the park a few weeks ago (despite daily testing otherwise). Join BG buttons would never go live no matter the method - had to hard close/open the app and by that point (which was still before 8:01) got BG 94 (or somewhere in the 90's, can't remember exactly).

Always good to stay on your toes, be aware of all possible outcomes, and make quick decisions when things don't go as planned - especially on days such as today where seconds/minutes matter.

This is the strategy people are suggesting. Actually "closing" the app (and not just clicking back to your home screen - the app is still running in the background in that case). When you "reopen" the app, you should get the Mickey-shaped fireworks (if you are running on a newer OS and the latest version of MDE).

BG 22! Even after a fast hard reset when it wasn’t working at first. Thanks to everybody for all your tips – so stoked!
I had to do the same thing - tried twice then force closed. We jumped out of line at SDD because it seemed like it was going to be a long wait. Getting a coffee and breakfast at Ronto’s Roasters. On cloud 9!

Thank you both for sharing this. We'll be there later this week and this morning while practicing I had same issue and it took me a few moments to remember to force close. It's sooo tempting to keep trying, but this is a good reminder to just bail if things are not available.

Figured I’d type up a more detailed report from yesterday that is actually helpful.

Left AS Sports at 6:30 and were parked and through security by 6:45.

Rushed to TSL and ended up near the front of the group under the green umbrellas.

There were three of us trying, all on data. I used that emerald time app to get to 7:59:50 and then switched to MDE and counted down from 10. We all waited until 8:00:01 to press the actual button. Everyone got the red button. Two on AT&T: iPhone XR and iPhone 11. One on Sprint: iPhone 8. We all got through to the add to party screen, so I think it came down to who could click the fastest. Was about to freak out because I got “something went wrong”, when my friend quietly said “I got 7.”

We rode SDD with no wait at all and headed straight to GE after that. We ate some snacks and walked around and got called around 9:15 to no line and no downtime. I am sure it was in A-mode since we were all completely blown away.

The cast members were really insistent on having only one person from your group being the best practice, but we told a few other groups not to listen. I think the people around us got 26 and 55.
