Rainforest Room daughter one month shy of 18

Disney does sometimes make exceptions for "special" guests, I would bet they'd let Justin Bieber go to Palo if he wanted...I remember there was also a NY Times food critic who was allowed to bring her grandchildren to Victoria & Albert's Chefs Table. (She ended up writing about dining there with kids - which is interesting because kids under 10 aren't allowed there and she was given an exception).

I think it is safe to say in both of these situations the special exception meant that no other diners would be in the restaurant with them unless they were invited by the "Special" guest. I can relate to the people who would get upset if a child was in Palo with them. It might be due to the fact they would have liked to bring their kids and were not allowed or because they booked that restaurant because they wanted some adult only time and having a child potentially getting board next to them might be a distraction.

Disney does have every right to do what they want with their ship. I think it would be safe to say though if they were going to break the rules they should close the restaurant in that instance from regular booking or call it a special event so people who do want to dine there know what to expect.

I haven't seen this mentioned but it would be awesome if they had one night on longer cruises (7 nights or longer) during a specific time period where kids would be allowed in these restaurants. Every year I travel to Switzerland for work and stay in a nice hotel in Montreux (Lake Geneva). Each night we have a Remy-like dining experience with wine pairings. My wife has come along and we might bring our daughter in a year or two. She would have to be on her best behavior and we would need to have back up plans (like getting an 10 dollar happy meal) if something didn't work out.

I can see why V&A couldn't do this because you never know if someone only has one night available for a dinner and wouldn't want kids in the restaurant but for longer cruises there are plenty of opportunities to have a seating with kids.

I did question who wrote the original post after the daughter of the member posted a response under the same members name and account.
Would a mature young adult openly admit to ignoring the rules and not expect people to voice their disapproval?

I was just saying how harsh the posts are. I feel here on Dis they are quite contagious too. I am not agreeing with the OP or breaking rules but I also don't agree how some posters get out of hand with dealing with questions here on Dis.

I haven't seen you do that as far as I have noticed. I have been the subject of these types of harsh 'attacks' on here for stating an opinion that others did not agree with. My tone was not harsh and I did not attack anyone with my statement but some of the responses I got were pretty harsh.

Plenty of "mature" people break all kinds of rules on cruise ships, and in every other aspect of life, all the time. Otherwise there wouldn't be continual threads on sneaking alcohol into dining rooms, wearing shorts into dining rooms, etc., etc., ad nauseam.

This isn't about the poster's maturity--it's about the belief that some of you have that the rules are sacrosanct because they're THE RULES. Which is, of course, your prerogative.

Disagreement with your premise, however, is not about "maturity" at all.

The one time that I know of, and the one that's been mentioned...when Aly and AJ were allowed to eat at Palo, they were in the private room in the far back of the restaurant. The doors close, so most diners, unless they saw them enter and exit, wouldn't even have known they were there.

And since one was 18 and the other very close to that, and also since they are in the public eye a lot, I'm certain they knew how to behave themselves in an adult manner.

As performers on the cruise, I'm guessing that's why the exception was made to the rule.

No, it's about the fact that the rules should be (as you say) sacrosanct.
Rules are rules. Not meant to be broken by anyone of any age or maturity level.

That makes sense. I didn't know there was a special room like that in Palo. I do know that V&A's chef table is in its own area so if a child were to eat there (as the person stated happened for a food critic) the regular diners would not be aware. I could see Disney making exceptions for special cases if the exception was out of general view as in these two cases. I do think it would still be a great idea if they had say a 3 hour time slot where kids were allowed to dine in these restaurants. Of course clothing/etiquette would still need to be observed.

And can you begin to imagine the number and length of the threads about how 6 year Johnny lives somewhere warm and doesn't own formal pant's and 11 year old Veruca doesn't have dresses, so would she be ok wearing xyz instead! lol! :rotfl2:

Yokelridesagain,

Mature adult's don't have sense of self entitlement to pick and chose which rules to follow and which to break to suit themselves IMO.

Where did the respect go? :confused3

haha at least it would create some more entertaining threads.

* Does palo have glass or plastic sippy cups?
* Can we order sprinkles on the chocolate souffle?
* Can we get BBQ sauce instead of that fancy smancy sauce with the chicken?

I am very glad that there is ONE place on the ships (I guess technically 2 on the Dream) where the adult only rules are enforced.

As soon as they agreed to allow "teen time" in Palo, people would be wanting to book for their 10 year olds. No matter what rule is set, there are always those who either want to break it or feel that it doesn't apply to them.

So you never exceed the speed limit in your car, then?

The statement you make, if taken literally, would admit the perfectly infamous proposition that "everything that ever was, was right".

What you MEAN is that reasonable rules should be obeyed in reasonable circumstances, and you feel that all the rules on the cruise line are reasonable.

I think that a rule that keeps a person out of a spa at 17 years and 364 days and lets them in at 18 years and 0 days is one that could reasonably be "bent" (although, again, I understand why they don't).

Rules are Rules, but LAWS ARE LAWS!
Slightly different things as one has a consequence of Jail Time!!!

I personally wouldn't try to second guess what Justmestace means.
But I also would do my best to obey the rules set out by my host, or vacation provider whether they are reasonable or not in my opinion.

It's not my choice to make, and if I do not agree with them, then I am free to take my business and vacation elsewhere.

So then where should Disney draw the line????? They drew it at age 18 except the fact:thumbsup2

:thumbsup2:thumbsup2 I agree....and with extechie, too.

I have a feeling Yokel is the same age as his post count.
Might as well let it go....some people want to argue for the sake of arguing.

The member (the OP allegedly) here doesn't seem to eager to post his support for his daughters previous antic's for some reason? :confused3

I'm not sure where the race, religion or skin color part of your comment is going or how it is relevant?
Discrimination of someone of a certain race, color, creed, religion etc is illegal.
But AFAIK each restaurant, is entitled to have rules regarding attire and age requirement?

The psychologist you mention may have his views and opinions. I disagree these, but we are all entitled to our own opinion.
They are not common opinions IMO however.
I really appreciate iankh's perspective on dress code:
"A note about dress code: I really don't believe in dress codes, and I think one on a cruise ship is absurd. However, I do respect that they exist. Therefore I tend to resort to "passive-agressive attire" which means that I follow the dress code but go the other way towards being absurdly overdressed." :thumbsup2

If you can't beat them, join them and one up yourselves!

I can't see any venom, just comments putting an immature teen's self image into context, and the reassertion of territory for adult's who like to abide by the rules of their cruise provider and to have respect for them.

And as I said before, if you can't follow the rules, and requests, please do not cruise.

What if I was? Would that refute anything I said? This smacks of ageism.

And...no. Old enough to be President, not old enough to draw Social Security.

I argue because I hope to--occasionally--lead someone to consider expanding their worldview. As I said earlier, some of the statements here--if taken literally--are far more repugnant than some kid swimming in a pool.

This has gone down hill....no need for any of this.

I am closing it now.
