Rainforest Room daughter one month shy of 18

I am the DD of the OP. I dont appreciate all of the rude comments about this post. As a fifteen year old i was able to swim in the adult pool and no one said anything. Also the teen club allowed people who just turned 18 in the teen area. We are not trying to just suit the rules to oursleves but as a mature young adult I would rather participate in the adult activities as the teen activities are too immature and not suited to older teenagers.

Then you were really lucky, missy.

Lucky that a CM didn't ask to see your key card, because you would have been a little embarrassed when they made you leave.

Lucky that you didn't get yourself into an "adult situation" that you were unable to get yourself out of, because you lack the life experience of an actual adult.

The cruise lines don't just have "adult only" rules because they don't want kids running amok all over everywhere, sometimes they make adult only rules because kids aren't capable of handling adult situations.

And trust me....no matter how mature you think you are....you aren't.

While i don't care either way. I do have one comment. So for example say they turn 18 on Jan 1st on Dec 31st they are still 17. Does that mean they could not handle an adult situation but the next day they can. :rotfl2:

I was replying to the 15 year old who said she was able to go to the adult pool and didn't get stopped.

And actually, in my opinion, I think the "adult" age limit onboard should be 21. I have three "kids" ages 29, 21 and 18....and no, I don't really consider the 18 year old an adult, even if he is quite responsible and mature.

My daughter will be about six weeks shy of her 18th birthday on our next cruise she really wants to use rainforest room. Anyone have any experience with having a teen this close to 18 be able to participate in adult activities.

No, she won't be able to use the rainforest room or participate in activities that are specifically for those 18 and over.

In case you are wondering if DCL sticks by these rules, we observed that question being asked in the spa two months ago. The very, very nice answer was basically "what is unclear about you need to be 18?" They handled it well.

An adult situation in the pool of a Disney cruise ship? Or the "adult situations" that frequently arise when one is...drinking coffee?

I appreciate the one person who was honest enough to say that what they really wanted was no young adults in the adult area.

Personally, I couldn't care less if a fifteen year old is swimming in the adult pool as long as they're quiet. The alcohol situation is not a good analogy; obviously for legal reasons the cruise line has to be rigid in that instance.

And what's with the "missy" line--do you feel entitled to call people names on account of their age?

I have a reverse question.

My daughter turns 18 this week. We're sailing on December 29. She will be allowed in the Vibe because she's still in high school. She will be allowed in the Rainforest, the adult Spa, Palo, Remy, etc.

Will she be allowed into the teen spa because she's part of the Vibe crowd? It clearly says up to age 17.

Personally, I think some of their treatments look way more fun than some offered to adults!

I had understood that they had to choose one or the other. Either be in the "teen" club, or go the adult route, but not both. Although I don't know how that would be controlled....without someone checking every day.
:confused3

The way it usually works with DCL, when they say 18 for adult activities, they mean 18. They won't fudge on the age no matter how close you are to turning 18 or how mature you are for your age. I've seen Palo enforced for a 17 year old just about to turn 18. Sorry, but if you're not 18 and your key card reflects that, you may be asked to leave the adult areas. Teen club is a different thing.

My DD was told that she would have to "choose" whether to participate in teen or adult activities. As she pointed out, there is no way the teen CMs can verify what you are doing when you are not in their area as long as you aren't "stupid enough to talk about it while you are up there." (her words)
She did both--she went to adult shows in the evenings with parent, but if the one time there was something she was interested in at The Stack, she went there...didn't click with the crowd and didn't return.

Sorry, but I can't answer the issue about the teen spa. Guess you'll have to ask on the ship and let us all know. My experience with things like the Wild Side excursion (13-17) is that an 18 participating in the teen group could do the excursion but it had to be booked on the ship rather than in advance as the computers on land stick to the age limits.

Yep, how on earth can they police that? It's not like you're doing anything treacherous....geez.

Glad you mentioned the Wild Side. My daughter has always done that and enjoyed it. I couldn't book it online and called DCL and they said the same thing.

Thanks!

Huh, if I had teenage children I would be more bothered by them letting a 21 year old into the teen club than a 15 year old into Palo. It's not what's going on in the club, it's who they meet in a social setting and what they decide to do together later.

Not 21.....it only goes for 18 and still in high school.

And believe me....if the teens who are mature enough to think they belong in the adult areas are going to "hook up" with older guys or gals, they'll find them, whether they go to the teen clubs or not.

So do they card everybody at the doors of the teen club and it's an "honor system" as to whether they're still in high school or whatever?

It's hard to tell just by looking...you see 21 year olds who look 12 and 18 year olds who look 35.

I'd have to ask my son or daughter if they swipe their key cards when they enter the teen clubs. But I do know that on the first night or two of the cruise, they'll check the kids ages, and they get to recognize the ones who have come on those first couple of nights. I imagine if someone came in that they hadn't checked previously, they would check them.

When you get on the ship, you are asked to go to the Vibe (formerly The Stack) to "confirm participation." You check your name on their list indicating that your cabin number is correct. The list is all kids of the appropriate age. If you are 18 and still in high school, they card you and add you to the list (they also ask that a parent verify the "in high school" status on one cruise). After that, they do not card.

On the newer ships, supposedly the KTTW cards are coded to allow access only to those who have been so cleared and had the card changed to allow.

And yes, on one cruise at the ripe old age of 16, DD was initially politely informed that "This area is reserved for teens." (I was there with her on the first day!) She replied, "I am 16" and offered the KTTW card as proof. THe CM was most apologetic (and DD was thrilled because she had wondered if she looked 18!)

Bottom line--when in doubt they do card, but not each time you enter the area.

There has been an exception one time to under 18's in Palo for some reason on the EB PC in 2008 they let some "girls" by the name of Ally and AJ in the private room.

Please extrapolate on that?

Ex Techie :)

I'm aware that on at least one occasion some Disney channel "celebs" who were under age were allowed to eat in the private dining room at Palo. Sorry, I have no idea who they were as I don't watch the Disney channel! Only got this info by asking the CM at Palo, who said they were TV stars and a major exception had been made.

I'm equally clueless as to who Ally and AJ are!

EastYorkDisneyFan,
