Hi All ~
We are going on our first cruise in late February. It's the 3-night cruise on the Dream so it is a closed loop cruise which doesn't require a passport but I know it's a good idea to have one in case I'd need to fly home from one of the ports. My DH & DD already have passports and I know I should have applied for one already.
I was gathering my paperwork for the passport application and discovered that my birth certificate is the original one issued; the data is hand written and there is no seal (I feel so old!). Since I need a certified copy of my birth certificate for the passport application or as cruise ID I ordered one today.
We can do our online check in next month. I assume it would be OK to indicate that I'll be using a certified birth certificate + photo id (drivers license) as my cruise ID since I won't have a passport number or expiration date to enter (I don't want to wait to do online check in until I get my passport). Then even though I will have a passport by the time we sail I'd still use the IDs indicated during online check in and just have the passport with me for emergencies.
Also, I assume it is OK if my certified birth certificate has my birth/maiden name and my photo ID has my married name?
Anything else I need to know about ID requirements?
TIA!
Debbie
