Question for those who did an add-on at VGF

So we are driving up to WDW tonight for the weekend. The thought bounces around my head that "hey, why not add 25 points at VGF as a xmas present for my wonderful woman". Then I look at the point chart again. I then remember why I didnt add on before. Being Floridians, we can go up for the weekend when we like, but bare minimum would with be 37 or 40 points for a weekend in the off seasons.

Is it really worth buying for the 11 month window to get a standard view studio for the weekend? Your thoughts would be appreciated. I am wondering if I am being blinded by my need for cost effectiveness (ie.. being able to buy double the points resale at almost any other resort).

We will use our big BWV contract for long (10-14 days) fall trips. We already had an 80-point BLT contract for a second trip each year, so when we added a 65-point VGF contract, we decided we'd alternate the two smaller contracts. That way, we could use two years of points at each resort. So Year 1 we'll stay at VGF, Year 2 at BLT. Have you visited the VGF building yet? It is gorgeous and makes getting points very tempting.

Good luck with your decision!

We were there Thanksgiving weekend and went to VGF to see it. We had seen the models previously over the summer and they did not jump out at us. When we saw the building however it was quite pretty. Seeing the full building is what got me thinking about purchasing again.

Visit the resort then come back and tell us how many points you bought. :thumbsup2

We are FL residents and doing a split stay this weekend - VWL & VGF. Will let you know what we think when we return.

We went to visit VGF last week, just to look around the grounds and check out the lobby. Met a very nice CM who offered to show us villa. I gotta say that while we really liked the model at the preview center we LOVED the 2 bedroom villa she showed us. Natural daylight and an actual view really enhanced the experience. Tempting to want to own there but points are so high to stay, just can't pull the trigger. Beautiful resort though.

We stopped by on Saturday and toured the villas. The previous poster is correct, they look and feel better seeing them in natural light than they look at the preview center. We discussed doing an add-on while eating dinner at Boatwright's dining hall (which was quite good btw). In the end we kept coming back to the point cost for the rooms. A getaway weekend would need 48 points (adventure through dream). That would be 7200$. For that we could realistically add-on 100 points at SSR (our home resort). In the end, we decided to do a resale add-on at one of our other favorite resorts and use the points for the occasional stay at VGF when the 6 month window permits. If they ever decide to build a DVC at Buffalo Junction and do the old west theme, however, my checkbook is in for a hurting (I wont care how many points it cost to stay there). Yippee Ki-yay!!

ps.. Absolutely loved the penguin fountain in the lobby.

Sounds delightful! BE sure to take some 'view' pictures at VGF for the room number map thread :)

We added on 40 points because we would very much like to know we can stay in a studio for 2 nights every December. I love the GF's lobby decorations for Christmas. Staying at VWL right now and enjoyed the fireside seating in the villas last night while waiting for laundry.

I have enjoyed OKW, SSR stays, but they don't offer me a convenient place to sit back & relax outside of the villa.

We got 110 pts so that we can bank/borrow for peak seasons at GFV (the bulk of our points are at SSR. So far we haven't actually needed to touch the GFV points but I think that will change when they have been open 7 month. Right now it's sort of a free for all :)

We bought 55 points enough with banking and borrowing to have a last 3 nights before we go home and once we are done with parks to do things like boating on the lake, fireworks cruise, dinner at Narcooses and Citricos and have a few relaxing days before we fly. I am really happy with my purchase although I must admit I am considering adding on another 55 when I am over in Feb.

GFV is my FAVORITE resort in all of Disney. So, for me, it's worth it. My husband would disagree. In fact, I didn't buy BLT when it went on sale because I was hoping for Poly. But, GFV makes my heart flutter.

That's why i added on at GFV.

VGF was beautiful. Thought of adding on while we were there & selling our small bcv contract. In the end, the high point costs, lack of qs options, lack of community hall, lack of night time activity on non-mk nights, and noise we heard from our neighbors made the decision for us not to. We had a nice view of the monorail & beach. Better than a BW view? No. Was very convenient for Christmas party night. Decorations were beautiful. I love all the activity on the BW, dining options in BW area, lower point costs, community hall, pool @ bcv. If we are going to spend a ton of time at mk, a monorail resort is great. Epcot resort hotels have terrible bus service but with all that I like about them, I can live with the terrible buses. Stating at bcv 2-3 nights in the summer is a must. Vgf annually is not. Hence, my decision not to add on @ vgf. We are a family that does not spend a lot of time in our room and loves our pool time. We also don't cook while on vacation.

Even though you live in Florida, getting a studio at VGF is impossible at anything from 0-6 months and super competitive at 7 months.

Thus, if you can plan 8-11 months in advance, then it may be worth it only if you want VGF.

If you are a last minute planner, then SSR resale points will be your best bet.

I live in fl and am a planner but the high point chart & $$ point just make it a no go for me. Taking all into consideration, staying there is not a must for me

I am already guessing that I will feel the same way. I was able to snag 4 nights in February and I think that will give me all the GFV that I want - get the urge to stay there off my plate!

I do love staying at BLT. I own at BWV, but when BLT first opened I couldn't easily get a room. Now it is no problem so I have no incentive to buy. I also bought BCV points when that resort opened - just had to have that add on! I haven't stayed there in 5-6 years!

I'm already considering rearranging my Feb visit and cutting my GFV nights down to three and adding a night somewhere else - BLT!
