Question about the Magic

We are looking at taking a cruise in the summer of 2009 and looking at the Magic. I know the Magic wasn't sailing the Carib in the summer for 2007 and 2008.

Does anyone know if that will be the case in 2009 as well?

No one can be sure at this point in time... 2009 itineraries will not be known until later this year/early 2008...

My assumption would be that the Magic will do the 7 day Caribbean cruises, but we won't know for a while!

An you know this how?? Link please!?

''No one'' knows what the bosses of DCL will decide to do, they made the announcement about summer 2008 in January this year, so we will have to wait until January 2008 to know.

My Guess:-

It will be West coast again the same as 2008, reason, it sold out so quickly and DCL now committed to two new ships will want to keep the WEST COAST open each year now, until the first new ship comes and then transfer the Magic there permentally.

How do you know this?

If you look at the prices on the Magic during the summer out of Calif I'd bet that they want to repeat this performance and will be repeating the same schedule and the Magic will again go out of Calif if I was a betting person.

Id bet they are right, just maybe stated a little too afirmatively.

I don't think anyone but TPTB know what will be sailing where. While I think that the West Coast is going to play a huge role in what happens. I also know that people are biting at the bits for a 7 day E. and W. Caribbean on Disney. They really need to start looking at the Wonder doing alternative cruises.

Something like this:

7 day E. Caribbean
4 day Nassua
7 day W. Caribbean

Exactly..lookls like it will be RCCL for us now!

ITA on this......while there is general excitment about the Wonder DD cruises in the summer of 2008, DCL can't count on that in 2009.

I'm already researching other cruise lines if there is no 7-day Caribbean itinerary in the summer of 2009.

I always suggested

Week 1 Magic 10 day then 4 day
Week 2 Wonder 10 day then 4 day.

The 10 day a longer carribean cruise Barbados or Jamica.

I know this based on historical data and the fact that the Caribbean is softening. If the bean counters look at the yield and profit margin for the MED after it is all said and done, guess where she will be going?

Otherwise look for her to do the MR again in 2009 summer. She will not be in the Caribbean in the summer of 2009, I can almost guarantee it.

So the same as me ''a guess'', based on better profits,

I love the idea of a 7E, 4, 7W alternating cruises. None of our family will cruise unless it's 7 days. DCL spoiled us. We're going solo on our 4 day and to add the 3 day is more expensive than a 7 day.

I hope DCL realizes the need for a 7 day from PC during the summer (when most of us with kids can sail without feeling guilty).

LOL ... you said it like it was a fact, now you admit that your original statement was simply a guess, anybody can guess.

Yes anyone can guess, but I suspect this is a very good guess. Disney has the best of both worlds this way. The Magic is in the Caribbean for 9 months of the year, including all the peak weeks, and elsewhere for 3 months, opening up options for those tired of the Caribbean route, or those who live closer to the origination port than to Port Canaveral. Disney can have their cake and eat it too.

Agreed. However, It is one thing to make a logical/educated guess ... it is entirely another thing to state "Magic will not be in the Caribbean for the summer 2009" ... as if it is a known fact.

Sounds good to me.....sign me up for a longer cruise around the Caribbean. There is so much around the Caribbean that DCL has barely touched.

True. Not a known fact. But it has become a pattern with Disney.

Amlee.
Yes, the Wonder needs to do Western and Eastern cruise along with the 4 and 3 day cruises when the Magic is not in the Port Canaveral. It would be great. For those of us, especially we Floridians, who do not want to pay for the airfare to other ports. They could do 7 day Western, 7 day Eastern, 4 day Bahama, then 3 day Bahama. This would allow people to still do the land and sea. We have discovered that the 3 or 4 day is not loing enough to be on that beautiful ship. This would also be good for the crew because they could experience new ports of call. I really can't believe that they have not thought of this. We are not doing a cruise this summer because our daughter is getting married in July and we can not afford the airfare at this time. If a 7 day East or west was available we woud go. Instead we have decided to go on an eight-day crusie on Royal Caribbean, on the new Freedom ship, in December for my 50th birthday.
