The kid could be doing far worse like selling drugs or getting in trouble with the police.

True, true...but that doesn't mean letting a kid spend hours daily on a video game is a good thing either. I interpret this newscasters sentiment as a general comment on the amount of time kids (in general) are spending on screens vs. being outside & getting fresh air or playing and interacting with other kids face to face or the myriad of other things that helps a kid be well rounded and physically & mentally healthy.

It's 35 and cold and windy outside. Walmart was a zoo. I got the last 1/2 gallon of milk and the last load of Maiers light Italian bread. The cat food row was about wiped out, all they had was the big packages of Friskies cans. I got what I needed and got out as soon as I could. Even at that I had to wait behind 2 people in the hidden U Scan not too many people know about.

Just fed the cats, and one of the rabbits outside apparently keep track of dinner time. It showed up as soon as I opened the back door and came to the deck to get food. It's so friendly. I found out where they came from. Richard next door was outside getting wood when I went to take the empty rabbit food dish in. He said "How do you like those rabbits?" I said "They're friendly. He said the guy who lives across the street from him owns them. (They live on a side street.) They are free roaming rabbits. They are friendly to people but hate cats. The guy has a cat and the rabbit kicks the crap out of theirs. Mine don't even go near it. lol. Second sense must tell them to stay away. The guy built them a little house with in and out doors, and told Richard that's the kind of rabbits they are. I never heard of it so I don't know. So they just roam and procreate. How many are we going to end up with around here?
We're under a storm watch now. We could get 5" of snow, or we could get snow and ice I guess. I'd rather nothing, but I'll pick snow over ice any day.

While kids spend too much time on screens, so do adults lol. But at the same token kids were just told 3 years ago they couldnt go outside and hang with their friends because of COVID, so im willing to bet some to this day still have that same mindset.

I completely agree with all of you that I wish people in general, all ages would choose to go back to more old-fashioned ways perhaps of living and communication. Simpler and sometimes kinder options. I am not a parent. Children, especially, in my opinion, need to be children! So many kid's (I have seen from church and as a director/teacher) have such structured and plain BUSY lives day in and out, to my way of thinking that isn't healthy same with adults in some cases. I recognize grown-ups often sadly need the income. This pandemic time has reinforced to me, for me, how meaningful it is to slow down. I pray better appreciate every moment that God gifts to me. As I have said many times, for me, I choose always and only Jesus, doing my best to take His hand and live as He calls me to with kind witness and thanksgiving. Live kindly and more simply. Cherish every day and with my beloved dad along with other family members and friends such as all of you, He has entrusted me to love and care for. Sweet Dreams dear Quacker family with love always🐥❤️

Lynn I hope you get snow and not ice. We are expecting snow in my area. Areas to the east near the coast and south are expecting wintery mix. My old area would be getting that. One not so great thing about moving further inland is more snow most of the time. Interesting about the rabbits. I have never heard of free roaming pet rabbits.

I agree that kids need less screen time but during the pandemic that went out the window unfortunately. Kenny put a timer on the kids' tablets and computers. When time is up they need to go something else like read, go outside, or pick a toy. Kenny helps them find something else to do and spends alot of time with them.

Good morning. 19 degrees here right now. I will avoid any supermarkets for the next 2 days. People become unhinged when snow is in the forecast. Plus anyone who does shopping on Sunday will now be out Saturday. I have a hair appt tomorrow morning and may go to Kohls to find some gym pants. I figure people will be more interested in getting food than clothes. I will miss seeing Jeff and family this weekend. I hope to do a video call with them.

Off to work. Have a good day.

I made a trip yesterday to pick up a few grocery items such as some veggies to make beef stew.

Made a huge pot of that last night, so that is also dinner for Saturday. I forgot to get Dolly Parton's corn bread mix which DD loves, probably because it is soft and sweet.

Saturday will be rain starting around 8am according to weather . com. Freezing rain at first before the temps rise.

We have nothing we have to leave home for on Saturday.

I also picked up some pineapple with the intentions of making a pineapple upside down cake. Perhaps I'll get it done today but if not it's happening tomorrow.

Filled the bird feeders already and will try to do them at dark this evening so they are full for morning. Last night a few cardinals made a late evening visit as I watched from inside. They will fly at dusk, when most of the other birds have gone to roost somewhere.

Happy Friday!❄️

Placed my grocery order for Kroger pick-up for later today. Stopped at Meijer last night and got dog & cat food. Kroger doesn't sell the dog food that I need.:dog2:

I'm working tomorrow so I'll get my house cleaned today. Garbage pick-up is pushed back a day due to the holiday, hopefully I remember to put the cans out tonight.

Dinner will be sushi and a spring roll that I stopped for last night and didn't finish.

Have a great weekend!

The calm before the storm. It was 18 degrees outside this morning. The frost looked like diamonds scattered on the grass. Going to be sunny and 43 today, but tomorrow is still iffy. They're not sure what we're going to get here. We're in the gap between extreme west and extreme east. Sometimes we get it, sometimes we don't. I'm hoping we don't.
Just in case I filled the feeders and covered my herb garden box with a tarp. I brought the car cover up and I'll put it on when it warms up. I'll bring the shovels up in the morning. I've already got the winter blues, and I don't really need a storm on top of it, but I'll deal with it if I have to.

Going to do a load of laundry done so I don't have to do it this weekend, then I'll pass the vacuum.

Have a nice Friday.

Winter blues is the reason I like to know I have Florida trips planned and can get going, especially during January and February.

On the other hand I know DD misses me so I've been making them shorter. The next one will be 10-11 days while most trips now are averaging 6-7. This year (23-24) I will have 3 trips and next year just 2 unless something changes.

Do you keep your herb garden growing all year? I've not done enough with mine this past year. After the first growth, I let it go to seed and it needs to be fixed; new earth and maybe moved up on my deck. I have it in a raised and movable planter box. But can't move while it's full of earth. I 'could' move it inside my green house but where am I going to get all this energy?

I agree with you about the over-scheduling of kids these days. We wonder why they feel so lost as young adults, but they never had time to just daydream as kids and figure out who they are and what they want.

As for the Tetris, I'd much rather they play that than some of the violent video games out there! Of course I hope the kid spends time outside too, but it was definitely an accomplishment and will stick with him - the next time he has to work hard at something, he'll remember how great it feels when it pays off. :)

There's some interesting research about Tetris and processing stressful events as well:

I haven't had the news on this morning (was at the dentist - no cavities!!) but the last time I checked, we were right on the line between snow and "mix" for Saturday night and Sunday.

I wish I could keep it going all year long, but it's usually done by the end of October. I do chives, oregano, 3 kinds of basil, catnip, and 2 kinds of parsley. I have rectangular pots and replant them every year. I always buy one rosemary plant and put it in a big pot by the back door. I rarely use it, but I love the smell. The only things that keep coming up by themselves when it gets warm are the oregano and the chives. I take those out of the pots and plant them into a spot next to one of the composting bins, and cover them with a big pail. They've come up for at least the last 8 years doing that. Don had made me a stand to set the pots on and I keep it near the back of the house. The cats use it for a sleeping spot after I take the herbs off. There's a shelf underneath it where they could sleep when it was raining. I need to have Dave build me a new one next year. This one is probably 20 years old and it's starting to show it's age. I know I won't have the energy to do a big garden next year, so I'm going to have him take the fence down, and get new fencing and posts and make it just half the size. We started out at 2x the size it was, and it just got harder and harder for me to do it all by myself. But we'll see how I feel about it in the spring.

The things I mostly want are chives and parsley. The oregano and basil have taken over in the past. The rosemary is nice to have for some things but with DD doing Hello Fresh still, she gets her herbs from that.

Last year I had my tomatoes in pots on my patio. I think I'll continue that this year. Plus move the box for the herbs onto my deck.

Just talking about growing things makes me happy. Then I look out and see all the work!

Might add a hot pepper plant for my neighbor.

Good Morning dear friends from very chilly for me, LA. Dad and I miss both the warmer weather! It may be time to get our comforters out at night. I just have been using a light fleece throw blanket on my chair at night. I don't think there is any blanket a little heavier than something like this but not as heavy as a comforter is there? :) Please stay warm and well out there and of course at home. Give God extra thanks for shelter and clothing period and for those of you with safe to use heating that is an extra blessing. I sure pray one day God willing dad and I can move somewhere that truly is up to code in all safety ways! Not complaining though. Grateful in all.

PollyannaMom that is exactly it! I used to so enjoy playing Tetris! I will check out the link, thanks :)

Have a good Friday friends with love.

I keep parsley growing indoors year round, that’s my only indoor herb. We have basil growing outside in the summer.

Today was our coldest day. There was an approximately 12” by 15” ice patch on the pond.

As far as WDW trips in January and February, they don’t work with our Use Year with DVC points. We do have an 11 night trip booked in a few weeks. It’s so long because I’ve two Disboards friends who will be there, at slightly different times, and I extended ours to overlap a bit with both. I really hope we are healthy enough to travel!

Rain and temperatures as high as 50 is what’s predicted for us tomorrow.

Add me to the CoViD roster. Mostly over it now, but I had SUCH a sore throat it was akin to having daggers forced down it every time I swallowed or coughed, which was less than ideal since I had a hearty cough! Was aching all over, chills, no taste, dizzy, faint, no appetite, nausea... but that's mostly behind me now :)

Glad to hear you are feeling a bit better.

Sorry you had such difficult symptoms. Was this your first time with it? My DSis has it for the second time, and it’s worse for her this time.

I personally know 5 people who have it now. 3 in NJ, 2 in PA.
