I am supposed to be leaving very early Sat. morning to visit DD and family to celebrate Margot’s 2nd birthday...Our DS is driving with me so at least I’m not alone.
I hope the snow is less than expected for your trip and that Margot has a great time at her party!

I have been told by women who have been on this journey longer than us the you never get over the loss, that you just try to live with it...My big step for the day is going to the coffee shop near Kenny's house. I got a cup of coffee, a scone, and sat at a table by myself. I looked at my phone, other people, and out the window.
I think the coffee shop expedition was a good thing to do. The advice you got reminded me of this graphic I remembered seeing on Pinterest:

PollyannaMom, I hope you had fun with the twins yesterday and that your 🐈have settled down being reassured that their family is back home.
The kids were good. She was very excited to start a diorama they were assigned for school. - There was much enthusiastic painting of a shoebox. :artist:

The cats are pretty much back in their routines - went out on their leashes this morning and everything. The little one was still especially cuddly today.

Good evening everyone! Spring Break is over and in the books as one of the dreariest I can remember. Tues, Wed and Thurs the sky was overcast and everything was just wet. Tues was foggy, we got a little rain Wed and Thurs in the evenings and no sun to help dry things out during the day. Thank goodness the sun was out on Mon and today.
DD and I took the kids to The Gentle Zoo on Tues. It wasn't the best of days with no sun and everything was damp but the kids had a good time. There were sheep, goats, llamas, an emu, chickens, a pig, an indoor reptile area, a couple of capybara and coatimundi, three large tortoises and a kangaroo. The kangaroo was very interesting to watch while he played with a ball hanging from a tree. Joe loved petting the tortoises. There was a sandy playground with all sorts of digging toys plus a huge bounce pad that was surrounded by sand. Did I say that everything was wet? The kids had three showers/baths that day. Once when they got up because we didn't realize how dirty they would get just a few hours later, then another shower/bath when we got home. Then several hours later they went out an played in the mud and were covered creating another bath/shower. Too bad DD didn't take pictures.
Wed DD took the kids to Target to spend some of their birthday/Christmas money that had been set aside. They pooled their money together and bought some Thomas the Train tracks and battery operated trains to play with. They had so much fun with it and played with it the rest of the day Wed and all day Thurs.
Today the kids had to put up the train set so I could vacuum. Then DD took them to Chuckie Cheese before it got too busy.

DD has mediation with her ex on Monday. Luckily they will not be in the same room. Her attorney is getting fed up with her ex and would love to just go after him for all he is refusing to do but he is going to play by the rules. The more the ex does not do is better for DD's case.

DS's transplant has been put on hold. Did I tell you that he has three donor matches that are 100% matches? The donor that we thought would be part of his transplant can't get into a clinic that the transplant team approves of until the end of April so they are looking into the second donor. I don't know all of the specifics of what is happening but hopefully it's just a little hiccup. DH is going with DS to Houston on Sunday. DS is having another bone marrow test. His numbers still haven't risen enough to have his next round of chemo maintenance. His leukemia doctor wants to run some tests to see if they can figure out why. He had a shot to help raise his numbers a couple of weeks ago but it only lasted a couple of days.

Mona, I'm glad that you have found a dentist that you like.

Snowysmom, the condo sounds so nice. I pray that you will find peace there.

Lynn, I'm glad your DH is feeling better.

Continued prayers for all that need it.

Good morning! Just catching up.
Glad for all your good news, and sorry for the bad.
Thinking of all of you and keeping you in my prayers. :grouphug:

We had a tough morning yesterday. I heard a shriek upstairs from DD when she came home from work. Her hamster friend was laying in his cage by the stairs instead of snuggled in his nest and she knew something was wrong. He was cold and neurologically off, so she just kept him on her chest and under a blanket, holding him and talking to him. Even in his rough state he was trying to get up to her face at the sound of her voice. It was sad. I stayed, too, as did DS for a while, and the pups. He passed very peacefully after a few hours. She was still teary at dinner time. (Thankfully she didn’t have to be back to work or have any papers due.)

Toto usually lays next to me but last night he went and laid next to DD where she had dozed off on the sofa. He is very intuitive, and we’d let him see the hamster when he was gone, so he knew. I said prayers while he was passing that he would join all our previous pets at the Rainbow Bridge and that we’d all get to see eachother again someday. (I kept thinking how God knows when even a sparrow falls.) It’s always so hard losing a pet, even a little one like this. DD loved him so much, she had him out every night, got his snacks ready, tended to his needs, worried about him when she was away, etc. He had a good life.

Plans for today are to get the new washer/dryer installed in the [in-law] apt. DH and DS moved the old machine out of the spot but we still have to clean it this morning. We got a new drip pan. I shouldn’t be awake this early but I woke up around 3 and that was it. Going to sneak downstairs right now to make a coffee and try not to wake anyone else up.

DS had a second date last night with a new person, things seem to be going well. He is working the weekend now.

Wishing everyone a good Saturday. 🐥

PS Thanks for feedback on the tile. DD took her inspiration from Coronado Springs Resort!

@Pea-n-Me I am so sorry about your DD;s hamster. He was such a cute little guy. He is with your other beloved pets for sure. Toto is amazing to be so intuitive when someone needs him. :grouphug:

Kirby I hope your DD gets some resolution with the custody issues. I also hope your DS moves along in the transplant process soon and his numbers get better. It is wonderful that he has 3 100% donors.

@PollyannaMom The picture of grief that you posted is so true. That is what I have heard alot. Thanks for posting that.

@dazedx3 Safe travels and Happy Birthday to Margot.

Another cold morning with a bit of snow. It is supposed to get near 40. I am leaving Kenny's early to get back to the condo and unload my car. I am bringing some boxes back for the movers to take. Then off to Jeff's where I will see the 3 younger grandkids until Ellie gets back from basketball. Then Jeff and I are off to see the new condo complex. I am picking out countertops, flooring, and wall paint. I did not do upgrades with these as I am a very low key not elegant type of person. I am sure I will find something I like. The shower is my indulgence as well as the extended cabinet in the kitchen.

Have a good day.

We had a tough morning yesterday.
Sorry about your DD's hamster. It's always tough to lose a pet and having had as many as six at one time, you would think I'd get complacent. But each one is a loss and a feeling of guilt sometimes, that they couldn't tell us what may have been wrong.
. I am picking out countertops, flooring, and wall paint.
I don't envy you that job. However having had a huge expanse of very dark granite for almost 15 years, I'm ready for white/light colored counters in the material I right this minute can't remember the name of.

Drove DD to Reagan National or whatever they call it these days. It was still dark at 5am and dark until I got home. Have I mentioned as I get older I don't like to be out alone at night? I told DD it is too anxiety inducing for me so other DD can drive her next time. I can see just fine. I know how to get places. I've just gotten less confident/more careful since I've turned 70. Plus if the speed limit is 45, people seem to be doing 70mph. Not 'seem'. They are doing 70.

She's off this week. School is closed for spring break so her Dad talked her into coming to Colorado last minute for a few days. Girls school is in session so they had to stay home with their dad.

Over easter holiday they are all going to London. That happens in less than 3 weeks. We are a traveling bunch. Hopefully she returns in daylight. I'll pick her up if the sun is up.

Enjoy your condo individualizing, Snowysmom!

@Judique , when we moved here I found the nearest parish with a SVdP (Saint Vincent de Paul) conference was 40 miles away, and had night meetings. I had to give up active membership, and was very sad. There was no way I could be confident driving home. I was 70. I really understand.

Good morning! Reminder to change the clocks tonight, Spring ahead!

It's cold and blustery outside, with a few snow flurries. Only going into low 40's. Back to turning the heat up I guess

@Pea-n-Me --Sorry for your daughters Hamster, he was so cute. He is up there on the Rainbow Bridge with all of the other DIS pets. He won't be lonely.

@Snowysmom --Good luck picking out everything you want. I'm excited for you to have found your new place!

Dave is supposed to come today to tape and spackle the drywall. Then sanding and then we can paint. I will feel more like it's a bathroom when I'm not looking at drywall everywhere.

My bath last night was like heaven. After a week of not being able to take one, I laid there and soaked for a long time. I can put just as much , if not more than in the old clawfoot one. I do have to figure out just where to put the water handle though. It was so hot at first that it looked like I got a sunburn on my feet. I had to run cold water before getting in all the way. I have only ever had separate hot and cold faucets, never one of these handle things that turn. Have to figure out the exact stopping position, or have Dave adjust it from inside the handle where the stops are.

Off to strip the bed and sweep the kitchen floor in case he gets here early

Have a great day

Back when I was in my fifties, I used to belong to an informal group of 8 to 10 women who got together roughly once a month to play cards. For quarters. We had a lot of fun and nobody went broke or got rich. The evening included dinner by that's months' hostess, usually something like spaghetti and meatballs - one dish stuff with a big salad and a sheetcake.

Anyway, I had to always pick up 2 ladies who eventually made it to 80+ but still could drive, just didn't want to do the night thing. In the last year I really understand why now.

Most of the old group are in heaven now. My 'new' group is more retirees who don't cook or play cards, but they all love to eat so we occasionally meet at a local restaurant. I was the 'young thing' in the first group, but now I'm one of three or four older members. Our dining is usually at 11:30am - right when our restaurant opens. Covid messed with this for a bit, but it's now back on the table.
This group is men and women and we've had anywhere from 5 or 6 to 20plus people show up. It's fun to get together with a common bond.

Good Morning and Saturday Hug to all,

Dad and I are enjoying a relaxing day that so far is dry as well. I'm so grateful he will be staying home today, too. We may even out together a puzzle at last. Bobbiwoz, your Lego puzzle is awesome! My cousin Steve, HUGE Lego enthusiast would enjoy doing something like that.

Dazed🙏you are having a good day and that Margot's party brings you some joy and comfort. Thinking of you:grouphug:

PollyannaMom, thank you for sharing such heartfelt and wise words about grief. I remember making dioramas for school. Not sure I was too good at them but the idea of creating was fun. Hooray always for young :artist:Happy:ccat:cheers (and forever for you as well, you know that) too!

Kirby :grouphug:Extra thanks to God for such a fun trip to the zoo! 🦘🐢🐑and all! Your daughter should have taken some pictures. But on the other hand, it is often more precious to put away a camera to truly be 100% in on an adventure especially with kids. I'm so glad all of you got to do that together. 🙏always for a peaceful resolution for custody along with so very much caring prayer on your son. We all care and are here.

:hug:Pea to your daughter especially. I'm so sorry about her 🐹By the Grace of God, your DD and her little furry friend will be reunited again one day! God indeed loves even the tiniest of sparrows and He sure loves you and the rest of your family. Yesterday would have been Champ's 34th birthday. He was born on March 10, 1989. Those we love both human or furry friend are forever apart of us and as others have kindly said no matter how small it sure is hard to say goodbye! Thinking of you all extra today.

Snowysmom, I'm not at all a fancy elegant type person either, very quietly low key indeed. I have often thought and so has dad that it would be a lot of fun to get to choose finishes or even the layout of a new🏠to make it more our own. 🙏that doing that today brings you added peace of mind and fun, too.

Extra :hug:Judique and Bobbiwoz, I'm not yet 50 and don't enjoy being out or driving at night period! I feel best also early in the day. Traffic:car:these days can be crazy indeed and certainly doesn't help with peace of mind on longer drives. I understand also just in a younger way :) Judqiue, what a wonderful group! I'd love to be part of that. So glad you will be able to enjoy getting together with some of those friends again.

Lynn, 🛀:cheer2:As always continuing Don (and, of course, YOU) prayers!

Have a happy Saturday everyone. I'll check in later.

Dave had an easy day. Built the linen closet and did the first coat of spackle. I just enjoyed my first hot shower in the new tub. Put it on massage, and wow did that feel good on my back.

We had some snow flurries, some sunshine, but it's cold out and feels like snow. It had better not! Second coat of spackle goes on tomorrow. He's hoping it will be fully done by next weekend, a far cry from his 3 days estimate at first, lol

Off to fix dinner

Have a nice evening

Morning save!

Lynn I’m so glad you are finally able to enjoy your new tub/shower! 🛁 I was thinking yesterday about our last bathroom remodel. The kids were around 6 yrs old and our bathroom floor was sort of ruined from water splashing out of the tub from their nightly baths. (Honestly it wasn’t in great shape even before that, it was older.) I was complaining about it out loud one night and DH asked if I wanted him to rip it apart. I wasn’t sure if he was kidding around, but I said yes. He told me then to take the kids and go downstairs. 😳 I heard a lot of noise upstairs. Later I saw he‘d stripped it to the studs. Oh my.

We left the tub as it was in good shape, but had it reglazed in white. Everything else went. We put in a new window, new tile around the tub, new sink, cabinet, toilet, and new floor. At the same time, he took a small hall closet outside of the bathroom and cut it open, as well as the overhead doorway between them with the sawzall, and that enlarged both the bathroom and the closet. I think it took a week or two to get it all done but I was so happy with it! It’s been 20 yrs but it’s still good. We have a downstairs bath that will need an overhaul soon. It’s part of our family room that we’re thinking about working on soon. We have a lot to do here!

So yesterday turned out to be a busy day. Realized when the new washer/dryer got here that we needed two plugs for that type (stackable) and we only have one (have always had the apartment style one piece washer/dryer) so that would require an electrician and would not only take another week or two to figure out, but would probably cost another $500+ to do, with prices so steep today. They also never told us we’d need a “kit” to stack them so the delivery guys couldn’t lift the dryer up for us and it weighed quite a bit. So basically we returned them. What a pain. So they’ll come back and get them in a few days, but we have to call the warranty separately to cancel that. All do it twice since DD bought one and I bought the other. Ugh.

Meanwhile did some online searching for the type we’ve always had but boy, have prices gone up on them! My mother would‘ve been freaked if she had to pay $1500 for this, I think the last one cost half that. Fortunately I was able to find one at a relatively decent price so DD ordered it online and it should be here the same day they take the others away. I really miss it because I usually do my laundry there. We do have a full size set in our house but it’s a hike downstairs, lol. I’ll be glad when it’s finally up and running.

Thanks for your good thoughts for us and DD. Late in the afternoon she decided she wanted to go look at hamsters. She cleaned and sterilized the cage and off we went with DH and her boyfriend too. And as if it was meant to be a cute little long haired white one came out to the front towards DD when she knelt down to look and long story short, he came home with us! He settled in pretty nicely. The dogs enjoyed watching him with no aggression or anything.

Funny story, we were all hungry and the pet stores were closing so we got the hamster and they put him in a cardboard box. We decided to get a quick bite to eat but it was cold in the car so we took him in with us in a shopping bag so he’d be warm, still in the cardboard box. About 3/4 of the way through our meal, DD looked in the bag and she saw his head poking out of the box - he’d chewed through it! 😂 So DH ran out and got another, thicker bag while we quickly paid the bill and DD held the top of the bag shut so he didn’t get out! Once we got home she put him right in the cage and we all watched him for a while. And oh yes, we brought him by DS’s work to show him. DS saw us on the cameras and came out while we were trying to do a take out order (which obviously got too complicated and failed). I got a really cute pic of DS and DD both smiling looking in the box together, it reminded me of when they were younger and we also got another white hamster one night. I think they were in 9th grade then and I still have those pictures. (That hamster had chewed a hole in the box, too!) So glad that’s taken care of. We’re the type of family that goes right out and gets another pet when we lose one. Like the pet loss poem says that I posted for Bobbi the other day, “Do not hold in that love that you have, give it to another like me, it’s a testament to the love we shared” [paraphrasing]. I had to remind DD of that as she felt a little bad, still missing the one she lost. But it was nice to see a smile on her face again (still mixed with a few tears). DH and I talked about all the times we either had another dog already on board as we were losing one, or went out within a day or two and got another after a loss. I know not everyone is like that, but that’s us.

Happy Heavenly Birthday to Champ @FlyingDumbo. Glad things worked out at the dentist!

@Snowysmom Glad you looked at those other condos. Looking forward to hearing what Jeff thought, and whether you went ahead and put a deposit down!

Thinking of all of you. Dazed, big hugs. Kirby 🙏🏻 for your son. @footballmouse It stinks when things are going pretty well at work and someone throws a wrench into it. I hope you can work it out. @easyas123 Safe travels. @Judique it’s nice that you have a good group of ladies that you socialize with! @tazdev3225 How did your meatballs come out with the cheese? @PollyannaMom I liked your grief reference. 👍🏻 As of right now I don’t have trouble driving into the city in awful traffic, but I can tell you I am really tired of it. It’s been 40 yrs now and I’m almost ready for a break from it. I do know it’s important for me to have a car in good working order as I don’t need to be broken down anywhere along that route. These days I mostly take it slow and let others go around me if I’m not going the 90 mph they want me to go.

Well I hope everyone has a nice Sunday. 🐥 Once again I’m up too early. Yesterday I got super cold late in the morning, could not get warm. Wrapped up in two blankets and dozed off in the recliner for a couple of hours. Paying for it now! Lol

Geez, how could I forget these first pics?
He is still very young!

Just saw DD in the hallway and she said she’s happy.
I was thinking, Toto is 9, he’s been through this multiple times, but for Grady it’s probably a first.
He was really good, though. But both are kept at a distance just in case, lol. Look but don’t touch!

Good morning everyone-

Must be something going around re: bathroom remodels! I picked up the new pedestal sink for the new basement bathroom yesterday! Husband is starting to put up the sheetrock today in there & the new kitchenette area. I need to get moving on the carpet and paint selections, as well as ordering the cabinets.
I'm headed off to Costco & the mall in a bit. I need to get some spring-like work type outfits and I've got my Costco rebate check burning a hole ($67 bucks - woo hoo  ) in my pocket.
Crabcakes for dinner. Last fall we tried a new experiment after picking crabs I had read about, freezing crab meat in milk. Something some of the wives of the older waterman did. So, we'll see how it worked.

Good morning. It's gray and cold out again, temps will only be in the 30's. Despite being so tired I couldn't keep my eyes open to watch tv last night, I couldn't fall asleep when I did go to bed. Then I woke up several times during the night. I hate that, I wake up more tired than when I went to bed. I think Dave is coming to do the second coat of spackle, which shouldn't take long, and put up the trim for the linen closet. He didn't have the right screws yesterday, so I'm sure another trip to Lowes is in order.

After he leaves I am picking up the drop clothes, and vacuuming and washing the floor. I don't want all the dust sticking to the floor any longer than necessary. I should wash the kitchen floor too, if I can find the energy. Being a gofer for a week is tiring. I'm not 25 anymore, lol. I've been so worn out, I haven't even been able to write much all week long, and I miss it. Between taking care of Don, the cats, the house, and the remodel, I just don't have the get up and go, to get up and go, lol

Have a nice morning everyone.
