Didn't mean to end my previous post and dash off. I've been busy, busy, busy today and I don't feel like I've accomplished anything.

Weather is getting cooler. Like it when it is not too hot nor cold just right. BTW summer is my least favorite season as really can't stand hot weather.
I love cooler weather. Fall is my favorite!
We arrived safely in Florida on Saturday. Beautiful weather and gulf, both a little cooler than I hoped.

Beautiful pictures Carol!
I am not a pancake fan either, but it has to be blueberry. And I am a toasted English muffin girl too..and if I have an Eggo, it must be blueberry!
Not a fan of pancakes or french toast. My preference is waffles and not that often. When we have pancakes at home, I usually turn them into a sandwich and put a piece of bacon or sausage inside.
Hellllooo everyone!!! I will try and play catch up later, we hit the ground running when we made it to Pigeon Forge and just taking a break now, because I am in the backseat while my son drives! LOL!!
How is everyone doing? We are doing the Smokies today with some hiking and exploring. I hope to catch up on the thread tonight when I am ready to just unwind and relax!
We're hoping to go there and Gatlinburg in early June next year.
OK, I got 42/50. Fun! Thanks.
43/50. Some I didn't even recognize because they didn't look like what I remember them looking like.
Back from my eye appointment and errands. My retinas looked good. 8-)
That's great!
Also, it brought me out of lurking 🫣 so hello all! 👋
Welcome!

Dear Kirby, you simply need to please take care, my friend:grouphug:

Dad just enjoyed some afternoon rest. Extra grateful to God that dad is doing well other from the booster. His arm was a bit sore earlier, but he said the actual shot was painless. So thankful. We got some older mail earlier including some cards and expected coupons. We also got part of our BB&B order of wipes. Not quite yet 4pm and definitely feels later! 🙏all of you have a good evening with love.

@Maple Moose --Welcome to our friendly little family here on this thread. We talk about anything and everything. It's like having a bunch of close friends/neighbors who talk over the fences to each other every day. Glad to see you come out of lurking!

Still having phone issues. Here in the computer room. We have had new A T and T phones in a box for 2 years. I took them out, charged them. I have the main unit here, and the old desk phone. Both are plugged into a double jack thing. If I unhook the old phone..it shows the new phone as offline. If I plug them both in, both phones work. There are 2 additional headsets..and both of them work. But if I try the new phone in any other room in the house,,it's dead silence. I even bought a cheap $10 corded phone today, if I plug it directly into the modem, it works, if I plug it into either of the outlets in the double jack thing..it doesn't work. Makes no sense, as the old phone and the new one aren't plugged into the outlet and work fine. We have jacks in almost every room..and none of the phones will work in any of them. If it was an issue in the lines in the house somewhere,,why would these 2 phones work and no other ones? Tech is coming Monday..he can figure it out. As long as we have phones that work (all the new ones) and have our cell phones we are fine. I called the house phone from Walmart, and it answered, the answering machine worked, I left a message,,which played fine when I got home. So I know it's working right,,just no idea why it won't work in another room. At least the new phone has Smart Call Blocker in it,,so I can program spam #'s,,and it will also just send spam #'s to the non answer screen. I guess it's time I took it out of the box, lol

It was after 2 when we finally got to the market. Aldi's wasn't busy, Walmart was. The worse price hike I found was Aldi's 2 lb container of 'Shedd's country style spread'. When I bought it a month or so ago, it was 2.99. Today it was 4.99. Yikes! Stopped for chinese on the way home. I did not feel like cooking, and my back hurts. I just now finished scanning and putting everything away. Ready to sit and wait for Survivor, but I doubt if I stay awake through it.

Have a nice evening all..goodnite

Lynn…..we still have land lines also, I prefer talking on a land line. But, the spam calls are getting ridiculous. I counted today and we got 12 spam calls! Some say spam right on the screen, but others don’t. I know that these obnoxious medicare supplement calls are someone’s job but, my patience is wearing thin.

@Kirby I was just wondering roughly how old your son is? Praying for him. 🙏🏻

Ugh, we get those Spam calls too on our land line. I just pick up and hang up since no one else really calls it. 🤣

Don’t mind me, but I don‘t know what hominy is! :duck:(Auto-correct wrote hominem probably because I was talking about prayers earlier, idk, lol. Grits?) Those words seen to go together. N/m, DH and I just looked it up and we see it’s corn that you cook with. Good to know! I will keep my eye out for it. Any tips for using it? What do you make?

@lynxstch Wow on the margarine at Aldi’s! I was there recently and I noticed prices were up quite a bit, too. I had maybe half a cart of things, which normally would be probably under $100, but this time it rang up for roughly $160! I said to the family, “Wow, prices have really gone up here!” 😅 I also noticed all the help was new.

Had meetings today. Then DD and I took the dogs out but we came home pretty drenched, it was so rainy out. Stopped at a couple of stores looking for some things we needed. Had lasagna and salad for dinner.

Thankfully, feeling better now. Thank you for all your good thoughts and prayers. 💐

Have a good night, everyone! 🐥

Good Morning.
Kirby Prayers for your DS.
@Pea-n-Me Glad you are feeling better.
Lynn Prices are getting ridiculous. I just don't know how families do it. And to add to the mix, heating prices this winter will be out of sight. Many people will have to choose what they purchase. Unfortunately people on a fixed income will suffer. I am afraid we are going to see some tragedies this winter with the cold weather and lack of heat.

Dark mornings are depressing. I like to wake up to the sun rising and light. I start work in the dark. I go into the office today but at least I wait until around 8. I work awhile and then go into work.

Have a good day.

I found this answer to your question online. Yes, you can freeze hominy. The best way is to drain it from the can (unless you made your own) and put it in a freezer-safe container. You can safely freeze hominy for up to 4 months.
Thanks. I was going to google, but you beat me to it.
Just wanted to pop in and say that we still do not have a definite diagnosis on DS's condition. DS went home yesterday after receiving a 2nd unit of blood to bring his numbers up a little more. They have an appointment with the hematologist on Tuesday to discuss a game plan. DS feels like that is when he will receive the word on what type of cancer he has. The hematologist is looking at Myelodysplastic syndrome or acute myeloid leukemia. Neither of which is ideal. The hematologist used to work at MD Anderson in Houston and has been communicating with them about DS's case.
Hoping for better news for him.

Price of everything has gone up! Record profits for corporations.
I've never used hominy before; I've only ever had it in posole! I know you can buy it dried and do it yourself, or you can buy canned, ready to go (which is what I did).

Good morning.

Just a quick stop to ask for prayers for my husband as he has a "minor" surgical procedure today. I get nervous ever since the strokes following a surgery. Thanks. Will update later.
Hoping for easy recovery and good news.

Well, the posole rojo con carne de cerdo came out very good! Lance said he was surprised (thanks for the boost of confidence, honey :rolleyes2 ). I forgot to get Mexican Crema for it, so I put sour cream and cheddar cheese on the side, along with some diced radish; cilantro and corn tortillas (for me) and flour tortillas for Lance. Not super spicy, just a nice after warm, but I only used ancho chiles, guajillo chiles, and a few arbol chiles, and strained out the seeds. I have 3 quart sized bags of it in the freezer; and I did freeze the extra hominy separately; I laid it out flat with spacing, so I should be able to get out enough for just one serving at a time if we do it that way. Lance says it's a make again meal. :cool1: (That means he likes it; when he says, 'it's ok', that means don't bother doing it again.)

Today is Hello Fresh day, so we will see what produce needs to be eaten first, and that willl plan out the meals for me. This week, we have Moo Shu Pork Bowls, with cabbage, scallions and buttery rice; Banh Mi style meatball bowls, with pickled veggie salad, sriarcha lime mayo and ginger rice; Greek Goddess Bulgur bowls with roasted chickpeas, harissa hummus and cucumber feta salad; Thai Ginger Curry with creamy coconut veggies, peanuts and lime rice; and Bacon jalapeno mac & cheese, with philadelphia cream cheese and crispy panko topping (which I'll probably add some ground beef to this one). I also have their Cheddar grilled cheese with garlic herb butter coming; I received a $$ coupon to use on 'extras', so it only cost me $2 for 4 servings of grilled cheese, which will be good for lunch one day! I did order 5 meals with time, because I had a credit from getting bad cilantro and garlic last week, so the credit covered the extra meal; we are all set for meals until Monday. (Thursday dinner; Friday dinner; Saturday lunch and dinner; and Sunday lunch and dinner.)

I need to run the dishwasher and put up dishes (I forgot to turn it on last night until it was late; but the stupid thing is sooo noisy, I can't run it when we are in bed!). I have two half loads of laundry, so I'll wait until this weekend to wash. I want to make some pumpkin chocolate chip cream cheese swirled muffins; I'll probably do those tomorrow.

Y'all have a good day!

Good morning and thank you for the warm welcome! 🥰

I'm enjoying the vibrant fall foliage. 🍁The slight chill in the air is all the excuse I need to snuggle up with a good book these days. 📚

Our deep freezer stopped working months ago but was still under warranty. Annoying but could be worse, we thought at the time. Months later, here we are with 4 no-shows from the warranty repair technician. Lowe's transferred our case to another warranty-fulfillment company, but a quick scan of Better Business Bureau reviews doesn't leave us hopeful that this technician will show up either. We are a family of 5 -- that extra freezer space was well used around here! Fingers crossed that this new technician will arrive next week as planned.

Good morning all
First @Kirby and @tazdev3225 --sending more prayers your way
Regarding spam on our landline..it's actually dropped to almost nothing over the last couple of months. We only had 1 last week, which I think is a record low. I plan on hitting the 'block' feature on the new phone a lot.
Prices really are out of line. When we went to Sheetz yesterday to gas up, I noticed the price on their kerosene pump. It was $7.49 a gallon..yikes! We only had to put in 1/2 a tank of gas after 1 1/2 months, that shows how little we drive, lol
They are working on replacing the main gas lines on our road, which is taking forever. We live on a very long road, that leads to a highway at the other end. They are almost down to our house, and they've been at that job since Spring. No way are they going to finish by winter. They have flagmen out here every day, which is causing traffic backlogs, especially in the mornings with the school busses running through.
Only going to be in the 60's today. I was going to mow, but it's too windy. I am going to wait till Sunday to do it when it's 70 again. Then I am going to run both mowers dry, change the oil, take the battery out of the rider (have to remember to order a small charger to keep it charged over the winter in the cellar), and call it quits on yardwork for the year.
Can you all believe that it was a year ago , that I ended up in the ER with that heart issue, I didn't even know I had! I thank God, and the Dr I ended up with for getting me through it. The cardiologist I ended up with , was new to our hospital and hadn't even been there for a month, but I liked him and trusted him immediately! I thank all of you for your support then, and for all the joy you have brought to my life with this thread. I consider you all friends, even though we have never met.

Have a great day!

Happy Thursday! ☁️

Gloomy day so far.

Months later, here we are with 4 no-shows from the warranty repair technician.
Ugh, I hate when that happens >:(. I went round and round last year with a plumbing company, the guy wouldn't show up so I had to wait another 2 days. This went on for a week.

Fell asleep again on the couch when I got home from work 😴. Just a short 15 minute nap but I was wide awake afterwards. Since I took my little nap, I decided to head out to Evan's soccer game (they won) ⚽. I stopped at Kohl's on the way there and ended up buying myself a new coat and a new outfit. That's very unlike me but I told myself, "screw it", I needed the coat, the pants were on clearance and I liked the sweater to go with the pants. I asked the cashier if she had any extra coupons laying around and she gave me a $20 off coupon to use 💵💵.

Dinner was real exciting, a bowl of Count Chocula cereal! I love that cereal and it's only available during Halloween season 🧛‍♂️.

I recorded Survivor but when I got home from the game I decided to watch The Amazing Race since it was just starting. It's pretty boring again this season. I liked when they had to fight for the best flight times and I think the challenges aren't very hard. I watched Survivor this morning when I got to work (thanks to CBS.com). I'm happy with who went home, her bug eyes were starting to annoy me 😳.

I'm actually busy this morning at work. One of the researchers just returned from a conference so I have all her reimbursement receipts to organize and submit. I actually thought it would have been later that 9:30, that's a little depressing that my day is already dragging 😒.

Working from home tomorrow so I'll get the house cleaned, I'll start the laundry tonight. I want to make sure I have time tomorrow to take the dogs for a walk since I'm working this weekend (night shift). I'll be useless Saturday during the day 😴. I'll sleep a little bit on Sunday but Evan asked me to come down to the new house. He's finally finished and they'll start moving in little by little this weekend and during next week 🏡.

That's all I have for now, have a great day! :eeyore:

I love all 3 of those cereals. A month or so ago, Walmart had an entire end display of Count Chocula, BooBerry, and FrankenBerry, so I grabbed one of each. Yesterday, they were nowhere to be found. Some days a good bowl of cereal is all that's needed for dinner, lol!

Haven't watched Survivor yet, and I can't think of who you might be referring too, but there are so many I would be glad to see go home this season. As for AR--I think it's also a boring season. I am pulling for Derek and Claire. I haven't seen last night's yet, so I have no idea who left yet.

Well, my intention for today was to get going early to run some errands. Nope, didn’t happen. I just had no motivation. I need to go to the post office to return a package and send one out to a friend in need. Idk why I hate going to the post office, it is almost as bad as the DMV😩
The sun is out today but it is cold, frost on the ground this morning. I am about half done with the Fall preparations. DS and Dd are coming on Saturday to help us finish up. Last weekend I planted about 4 dozen tulip, daffodil and crocus bulbs, should be pretty in the spring if the critters don’t dig them up.
I have been starting to think about Christmas this year. With DD’s wedding the week before, I need to get my preparations organized, but like most other things I am just not feeling it.
Well, enough whining. Hope you all have a very nice day!

I haven't been inside a post office in years-literally!! I print all labels, pay for postage online, set up a pick up date, and my mail carrier takes them off the front porch. We do have a small postal sub station inside a Pharmacare, and if I need stamps I just stop in there. But I don't even use 2 full booklets of stamps in a year..lol

Happy Thursday from cool LA,

Dad and I just agreed that it feels like it could be midnight at just after 9am. We did end up getting some mail yesterday which is always a welcome surprise. Expecting a card from a special friend today that I sure hope finds its way here later. All is quiet on the CA front.

:hug:Dazed, we also still have a ☎️ that already this morning has gotten 3 spam calls :P I am so sorry you are also bombarded by them. Prayers continuing for you and Kris! Congratulations to your daughter and her husband to be!

Pea, oh no:hug:. I’m sorry you and your dog's got wet yesterday and that you also have spam calls. “Hominy” for some reason makes me smile to think of our friend pooh:

Snowysmom, extra :hug:to you and right now at not even 9am here it already sure feels much later. Again a lot of that is due to poor apartment lighting. Prayers your own place at least has more natural light. Prayers you do have a good day and are feeling better, too.

🙏for Jim and always you, dear Taz!:grouphug:

B&B, Snowysmom, and everyone, prices sure do keep going up and up all-around. Dad and I are so blessed to still be able to get what we truly need. We do indeed try out best to budget and plan ahead. Grateful in all, of course, always! I absolutely also feel for families and those on a truly fixed income. Wow, you are quite a chef with some many different recipes, good for you, my friend:hug:. Dad would love to try your pumpkin chocolate chip cream cheese swirled muffins. Enjoy them! Continuing prayers for your son.

 PollyannaMom, sounds like a nice quieter Thursday. Prayers that it will be and that your MIL’s appointment goes well. So, kind of you to take her.

Maple Moose, we are so glad you have joined us! I also love a good book especially in cooler weather. 🙏 you are enjoying a good read right now:flower3:and a hug as well from CA.

Big :grouphug:, dear Lynn and wow time has flown. Praise, praise God indeed always and in all ways extra for His Grace upon dear you that is for sure! I remember well when you were in the hospital. So thankful, so very grateful you are doing so well today, my friend.

Footballmouse, 🙏your dinner brought you comfort and cheer and that you enjoyed it. I’m so glad you treated yourself to some needed clothes as well. What color is your new coat? May it keep you warm and well, my friend.

Have a good Thursday, everyone. Please stay warm and well! I will check back later.

Jim is home and all went well. They had a little trouble locating the device being removed from his chest but he managed with little pain. He even felt well enough to walk the dog when we got home. She hasn't left his side and he is asleep on the couch. My daughter will stop by tomorrow to remove the bandage and check the incision.

Ella had her first Volleyball games the other day and it was a nice distraction. She made me the team photographer and then was surprised I took about 500 pictures. I have no idea why she would be surprised; she knows me. I think she knows more than the coach as far as the game. She helped set her teammates up in position. The team did ok and lost one set but won the second. Now she wants to play softball and wants me to be the coach. I'm not sure that can happen as I no longer have an affiliation with any organizations in the area. I told her I would consider it.

Hope everyone has a pleasant afternoon.

@tazdev3225 --Glad all went well with Jim. Thanks for the update
@footballmouse I just watched Survivor, and I too am glad at who went home. She was too full of herself, and I couldn't have been happier to see them all turn against her
@flyingdumbo127 I just bought myself a new coat too, will post pic at bottom. I got it at Old Navy online last week when it was 50% off, also used some Old Navy cash I had to use up. No way would I have paid $89 for it. It's still on sale now, but only at 25% off.
This is the coat, and the color I got
